In this video, I will share with you different versions of the 35mm summicron asph, sample photos as well as my thoughts on the lens in 2024.

Not gonna lie, I followed your channel because it blended two things - my love for photography and my desire to improve my Chinese. And I recently came back to check your stuff out and realised you speak really good English too - even better than my half-baked Chinese! Glad to see you keep creating, man. Cheers.

ah I'm glad to hear that you checked back. I'll do most of my vlogs in Chinese :)

Thanks for showing this lens some love, Jimmy. I bought the ASPH V1 over a decade ago with the M8 and have continued to use it with each new digital M. It might be relatively ‘bland’ in a world of Summiluxes, APOs and vintage and reissue lenses, but I think it’s the best all-rounder in terms of size, speed and performance for a travel lens. When I go hiking with a 15kg backpack, this or the V5 50mm Summicron is the only lens I want to take because of the size and weight. The only really bad thing about that lens is its lack of flare control. Thanks for continuing to upload your videos!

I'm glad to hear that you're still enjoying this lens! Yeah I feel even the 2.5/2.4 summarit versions have better flare control. But sometimes the flare can be flattering too.

Nice work! I traded my v1 summicron in brass for the macro Elmar 90mm f4 set. Wanted a longer reach lens on the m10m. I actually prefer the v3 summicron Canada which is my favourite 35mm

the v3 has a much more vintage rendering, I love that lens too, small and light. Not as stupidly expensive as the v4.

Nice job Jimmy! I have the version 1 and love it. 😁👍
seeing how cheaper a second-hand asph v2 is compared to a KoB, you get a banger value of a lens amazing so far on my m4, and could pair great with digital M if i get one later down the road

Thanks, Jimmy! This is a great video. How much of a difference do you see between pictures made with the Summicron ASPH and those made with the Summarit?
@JimmyCheng2 ай бұрын
honestly, I was looking back at a roll of film which both lenses were used. I can't really tell any difference (at least on film).

Hi Jimmy , thank you for this new video 🙂 how would you compare it with the Voigtlander 35mm Nokton f1.5 ? I remember that you quite enjoyed this lens I believe. Same size, cheaper, faster, and a "special" rendering as well. What do you think about it for choosing just one 35mm , against the summicron ? Many thanks 🙏
@JimmyCheng2 ай бұрын
aside from the brand, the 1.5 is much better value. You get one stop of extra light, similar build quality (not sure in long term), similar smooth operations. In terms of sharpness, I haven't done side by side comparisons, but I never felt the 1.5 is not sharp even at 1.5. Same goes to this lens.

you've reviewed in your famours video the Voigtlander Ultron 35mm f/2. do you think it's comparable to the ASPH Cron?
@JimmyCheng2 ай бұрын
yes the vm is comparable in terms of optical quality. But, many ppl complained about leaking oil on the voigtlander, so build wise maybe it's still not on par with Leica. I personally don't have bad exp with any of my voigtlanders when it comes to build quality.

Summarits are the best value.

true, just reviewed them a few weeks back, value king.

What do you think about the titanium 11609 ASPH lens?
@JimmyCheng2 ай бұрын
I've owned the titanium version many years ago, I found it to be similar to the silver version in terms of weight/feel.
