5k hours, played from launch, took a year off when the game was going through a heavy revamp. There are a lot of reasons that this game lost most of its player base, and most of those reasons are mainly because they've been rebuilding the game for 3 years. I can 100% confirm to anybody who hasn't played this game during that time, this is the best state it's ever been in and you will get hundreds of hours for your money. There has been no better time start playing this game than now. Hopefully, we're now at a point where they can start focusing more on end game and keep the ball rolling.

Great review Renfail! I spent a day playing this and I think it is very polished, but there are still a few small issues. There is an issue with subtitles during dialog screen cuts where there are 2 different sets of subtitles playing at the same time. The mechanics are pretty solid and there are a good amount of quests to keep you engaged. The map is pretty substantial. The Fast Travel works well, as long as you remember to claim the Fast Travel area, which has been standard for quite some time now. The boss phasing screen is a bit misaligned when entering the main boss fights. I really enjoyed this and I think it is worth the time.

I am loving my time in the beta but lastnight is where it really shined. Just sitting in town. Some higher level started playing music and we were all dancing around them. Then we started talking through voice chat and we got ourselves into a few adventures. It was just that sense of community that I really enjoyed. Normally I don’t care for that thing. I like to play alone but it was fun! And for me that’s literally all that matters. Having fun. Feeling nostalgic, enjoying myself. Doesn’t take much to please my video game appetite. There are many times when the community sinks a game is horrible but I really enjoy it. For example I absolutely loved the most recent mass effect and I wasn’t too fond of ghost of Tashima. I know people love that game but it found it very repetitive and checklisty. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. Just wasn’t for me.

man i really missed out on last night. seems a lot happed. i am a antisocial loner irl so MMO games always peak my interest but most don't keep me engaged or immerse me. this game really has within the 2 days i have played in the beta on PS5. I haven't made any friends in game yet; but i have had a lot of "What?" "WHUT?" moments and shared some exciting encounters. kinda sad only less than 2 days left. I just got my mount today! :D

As a pc player who's played at launch and been playing fairly consistently until last year i'd say its worth it for console players you will get more than ur money's worth. For pc players thinking of coming back that arent hardcore and werent one of the 3k people still playing then also maybe worth checking it out fresh even. The game was its best when there was people in the world running around hearing people chop trees, mine ore etc.

So I’ve played many MMOs. I’ve played WoW, ESO, RuneScape, Rift, FFXIV, Path of Exile, etc. I will say it’s very beginner friendly. My brother always wants to get into MMOs but hated the 20-30 buttons and skills. I can keep up with all of those but he simply doesn’t want to. NW is very simple, 3 skills per weapon and he can wrap his head around that. The combat is more “skill based.” Meaning if I’m a bowman I actually have to aim vs just choose ability and click baddie. So my brother has got really into it but the combat feels more engaging that way. The fluidity of getting to pick your weapons and builds keeps it engaging there. So this will be me and my brothers MMO for now. For me the time period is what I love. I’m a history teacher and the setting of 1609 is sick. It’s in that weird period where you have swords and bows but also guns. Like you have so more options, Samurai were around at that time, knights, Musketeers, Golden Age of Pirates, the Dutch, Spanish, and Portugal Empires were dominant, Witch Trials, and so much more. Very weird time and I think that’s sick. We aren’t in endgame or anything but early game (maybe 20ish hours) we are really enjoying it.

I've played it back in the days when it was released on steam a few hundred hours and then left (I can't exactly remember why, maybe because pvp had a bigger focus back then or because all my friends stopped playing.... but it was ok since I had a great time with the money spent). And now I've played this open beta over the weekend on my Xbox X. And I really, really liked the the reworked main story with it's cut scenes, voicing (Grace O'Melly :D ) and the fact, that I was nowhere forced along this main-story line to do group-activities. Of course some of my friends (on the steam side) tried it as well, and we did do some quests together and it was fun. All in all I enjoyed it so much, that I even pre-ordered it on my Xbox (even if I meanwhile refuse to pre-order any games anymore since the gaming-industry disappointed me to much in the past). I'm pretty sure, I will have enough enjoyable time on the couch after work when it releases (again) and not being forced to do group-play. Joining with others (even on a different platform) is a bonus that I like and enjoy too, but luckily don't depend on. I don't expect this game to keep me "busy" for eternity, but I think will get enough fun for the money I spend (compared with other big and more expensive "AAA" Titles).

I am really loving this game. I bought it about 2 years ago and left it and I cant agree more they have done so much to fix this game. It is actually mirroring the ESO formula. ESO was on PC 2 years then console. ESO had its BIG issues in the beginning and is a loved game now by many.

I promise you this game is worth it.. even if you are not in a company/guild you can still join one of the three faction and join raid groups and PvP and take/defend forts. You can sign up for wars even if you’re not in the company/guild all in all a very good refreshing experience. I have gaming ADHD and unless a game really hooks me, I bounce around a lot and don't finish games. Well we have Elders Scroll Online and Final Fantasy 14 that are maybe the biggest classical styles of MMORPGs that first launched as PC only. But then we also have Black Desert, Neverwinter, Star Trek Online and at least 10 other games too. So it's not totally unheard of. And if we start to count games like Elite Dangerous and Warframes as MMOs too the list starts to grow.

It’s definitely still an MMO. The only reason they’re renaming it and also calling it an ARPG is for a marketing ploy. But it’s still a MMO, but the beta has been fun and it feels so much smoother. I’ll definitely be coming back no doubt.

I’d say original launch was a modified Survival game with some RPG elements crammed in. And Aeturnum is actually an RPG after 3 years time to add more RPG elements. MMO just gives an idea of how many players can being playing at the same time on a server. It doesn’t mean you have to be in a Group. I mostly Solo even in EQ and WoW, but it’s great to see what other players are doing and have opportunities to interact with other players, even when not in a Group.

@Renfail I mean I deff disagree , I think a lot of people are blindly looking over the fact that this game launched over 2 years ago with a dedicated playerbase who received absolutely no support from AGS , consistent letdown on exploits and bugs destroying economies as a whole. I have a character on the newest fresh start server and it peaks at 300 players. They put a new coat of paint on the part of the game that wasn't even an issue the early game. Leveling was always fun, they changed nothing about the end game leaving anyone who's already been playing the game lacking anything new to do , the new thing to do is start over on another fresh start server and hope it doesn't die , yet again.

@@scolamiero28 Sure. For Launch, the devs abandoned the original vision and tried to wrench it into an RPG - like cramming a square peg into a round hole. Seems like they have taken 3 years to re-tool the design and create a more legit RPG. Most of my gripes with the Launch are rooted in the cultural and racial biases baked into the design. Thankfully, by Launch, they had a cosmetic that allowed me to feel somewhat like an African refugee rather than an escaped slave. Once I was wearing that, I could have fun while ignoring the other cultural issues. I’ll have to see how much of the cultural issues have been rectified with the new story line. Adding something similar to Classes may also give it more of an RPG feel. True Housing similar to what’s possible in Valheim and Nightingale would also be fun. I don’t think people are blindly overlooking anything. It’s just a different target audience enjoying the new vision instead of the original target audience being pissed about the drastic change in the design to be a very different game than the original vision. The Battlepass plus Seasonal updates gave me plenty of “Endgame” stuff to do. I have not played NW since January because I’ve been playing tons of LEGO Fortnite ( which dropped in December) and Nightingale and NMS. I just haven’t had time to get back to NW or WoW. But, it’s not because I feel I have nothing to do during “Endgame”. I don’t really consider NW to have an Endgame now that they have the Seasonal Battlepass. (Assuming they keep that for Aeturnum.)

Time versus money/cost? Most players are happy to play a game until end game (40 or 50 hours) then move onto another game, no complaints, its just put in the collection. This game is different. End game is not the end, it is just the beginning, There is a lot of content you cannot solo even at level 65, you need to really study the game to build your gear, crafting and farming BIS content and team up to complete EVERYTHING. So time versus cost is a bargain at 60 bucks, you can easily get a few thousand hours of this game. Im at 4.5k hours and Im still not finished with what I want to do in this game.

I love this game for its graphics and combat but expeditions aside, it needs a real endgame content. We'll see soon how it ends...
