I love the Psvr2. At the beginning I was slightly disappointed that the picture isn’t as sharp as a 4k screen but it’s still miles better than in the first headset. But the immersion is another level I’m playing RE Village right now and this game feels so much better in vr than the flat version.

The PSVR has a cord attached …… the quest does not. What is said cord for?
@MrBeakey Жыл бұрын
@EM Archer PSVR2 does not have a cellphone CPU/GPU in it like Quest 2, PS5 has to render graphics to the headset, and that is what gives the better graphics and smoother frame rate. Just like the high-end PCVR headsets. But PSVR2 has OLED displays and head haptics, which add to better visuals and immersion.
@johnalexanderlowe Жыл бұрын
@@EM_ARCHER It draws the full power of the PS5 for better performance. The Quest 2 only works seamlessly if you have a dedicated 5ghz WiFi 6 router connected to a high rig gaming PC if you even want to get close to what the PSVR2 is offering.. I never understand the critique on the cord, it’s specifically meant to work for a wider audience of users.

I am a VR veteran Dev Kit, Rift, Valve Index and Quest 2. But I have to admit I love this headset. It is sharp, clear and the colors are out of this world, also the Haptics are Revolutionary. I love it so far
@KhanTheDapperGreat Жыл бұрын
That's kinda excessive, definitely not revolutionary. Well to each their own and don't mean to come off rude or anything or bash your opinion. I had the quest 2 since launch and recently stopped using it for about a year prior to me recently getting the psvr2. I was so disappointed with the psvr2. Everything about it was just over hyped to me. It wasn't up to par with what was advertised and what I've read online and for example KZbin comments prior to me buying it. I returned it and decided to keep using my quest with my PC. I did like the comfort level tho.
@paulbellino5330 Жыл бұрын
@@KhanTheDapperGreat I understand totally the quest with PC is still very good. I will never give up PCVR way too many good games on there Including Alyx and its mods. But for someone with no gaming PC and if they have a PS5 then this would be a perfect way to get high end PCVR at a lower cost than buying a gaming computer. Did you play resident Evil Village with the PSVR 5 The adaptive triggers and haptics cannot be beat. Now that so far is perfect. If you ask me.

I cant see if anyone has mentioned this, but with regards to letting go of the controllers and grabbing them again, I let them slide down my arms almost like a bracelet. You can use your hands (for adjusting headset, using phone etc) easily and then you can let them slide back down to your hands. I hope that make sense, but it's pretty useful I feel.
@dgt83 Жыл бұрын
Also, I completely agree about the lack of livestream comments showing (or any kind of overlay for that matter, the options are just greyed out) - I really hope this is addressed in a future update. They have pushed the fact that you can use the camera to broadcast etc, so it simply makes sense to sort this.

I would love to play a game like Control with this
@Olkv3D Жыл бұрын
@@lonesoljazangetsu1157 Yes, it must be plugged in to the console. Thankfully, it is only one USB-C cord that's about 12' or so in length (no entirely sure, haven't measured it). Besides VR games, there is a Cinematic Mode where it displays a flat screen that is adjustable in size. Non-VR games can be played this way and displayed in 4k at 120hz, as well as DVD's and videos from a flash drive. KZbin can also be used, but unfortunately, it does not access the VR version of the app the way that VR1 did. There is also a web browser, but it is very limited in what it can do.

This was such a super in-depth review. Pros and Cons and samples/examples were very thorough. Great job! Hey, just a side note about your guardian /boundary in Quest 2 having to reset so often...I fixed that problem with mine by going to settings and the guardian and deleting it, then setting it up again, and it's been awesome ever since (only happened a couple of times needing to delete and reset since I got it on launch).
@jaybratt Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words and the tips about the Quest guardian. Part of my problem is I'm switching between my living room, 2 studios, and garage all the time and EVEN THOUGH it claims it can save that many play spaces it doesn't seem to be able to keep up. I'll try deleting and see if that helps at all. I also have hue lights which aren't always the same color so that might be adding to my problem.

Just remember, the brightness dial also controls motion persistence. You want blur free VR motion? Than set the dial to 0 for a PSVR1-like experience. Max brightness is never a good idea with this headset. to much motion blur, and the HDR brightness can actually go against the PQ. 50% seems like a happy medium, but it really all depends on the game. Moss Book 2 for example, performs and looks it's best at 0, where as RE8: Village, needs higher brightness to prevent black crushing. The golden ticket is to play PSVR2 games running at 90fps with Brightness slider set to 0, imo. Moss Book 2 being one of the greatest examples.
@jaybratt Жыл бұрын
That's a really good callout with OLED and brightness settings! I haven't seen anyone bring that up anywhere else either!
@NintenPizza Жыл бұрын
@@jaybratt Seems like a lot of reviewers are sweeping the high motion persistence/motion blurring issues under the rug or seem completely oblivious to it, as if it's normal maybe. Plus, I think Sony was a little deceptive with their PSVR2 marketing, pushing VR HDR as if there were zero compromises. Sure the brightness and colours are great with max brightness(which is the out of box default) but then motion suffers severely.
@ziggyd24 Жыл бұрын
What brightness setting do you recommend for GT7?
@NintenPizza Жыл бұрын
@@ziggyd24 Haven't tried GT7 yet. If you set the brightness slider to '0' you're getting CRT-like motion, as in zero motion blur for 90fps titles. 0 will always produce the best motion, but brightness and HDR suffer as a result.

Awesome review, love the TV/Home Theatre enthusiast POV regarding the screens (also, I have not seen any info about the subpixel arrangement, huge plus). One thing I might explain to anyone disappointed with the "2d menu": let's say you get your VR headset, and start the setup. Years back you had to install base stations, or had some tedious setup interaction that dominated the first hour of your ownership. The PSVR2 was developed with ease of use and a quick setup in mind. So when you first put this headset on, you are taken through a rough 8-10 minutes of very intuitive setup, then you drop into the standard PS5 home screen which you intuitively know at this point. While making a "VR home" would have been a very nice addition to this headset, the base menu does not take away anything from the experience. Learning how to use a brand new navigation/home screen does, and if I know Sony, they would have PUSHED that menu style on you and would not have given you an option to use the standard one. :D Also, we have some neat 3D logos for games where the developers spent like 10 minutes to make it, like Switchback or Beat Saber and many more.

At first I was excited and went too hard on my day 1 and I felt quite bad actually, also did not know exactly how to set it up on my face to get to that sweet spot, it was quite weird but still loved it. Then I had that moment when I felt quite bad but still played because daaamn I paid lots of money and I used to love my ps vr1 in the past. The problem was that I was forcing myself to play horizon and star wars and not other games and those actually I would say although good are not too good to play after long time without vr experience. Then I left vr for few days and came back to Hogwarts. And then few days ago I got SynthRiders… spent 4 hours with it in a row, stopped feeling my arms, but was soo happy that got pistolwhip the same day and played more and lost feeling in my arms again :D then it repeated the next day and then I got Demeo…. Daaaaamn what an amazing multiplayer experience… and also I noticed that I am not feeling dizzy anymore playing any other games… And the joy it started giving me… oh booooi !! Me just want more.

Mine is still sitting around waiting to be really played, its too much of a pain in the ass to get it going, if it just fit right, wouldnt care, but its like a challenge every time to get it to sit right, then if you wear glasses forget about it, you NEED the lense spacers, to prevent rubbing your glasses on the Fresnels, its not a biggie I guess, just wish it was more accessible to play, as of now it kinda sucks to be honest, the whole "feel" part is not really there so I couldnt really care less how good the game is. No comfort = Sit around - Nice looking though!

Regarding pointing with controller to choose games and stuff in the menu...isn't that outdated compared to choosing in menu with your PSVR2 eyetracked eyes? Or is that not possible in all menus? I have seen others just looking at stuff in menu and then clicking a button to choose.

Loved our review and comments, and I agree with you entirely. I have a Quest 2 but the headset is too heavy and always gives me a headache to use. I just bought the PSVR2 and love the headset. I don't care much for shooting games so am hoping that more non shooting content comes to this unit plus Google Earth VR which I loved on my original Oculus. Oh, I did note that after playing some of the games, I get a queasy stomach for some reason.

I bought that same docking station that’s in your video… I found that it only charges one controller when both were docked - and it would continuously show a blue (fully charged) light for one of the controllers even though it was just placed in the dock. Someone mentioned this issue and recommended using a 5V 2A power adapter. Hopefully that works… otherwise, I’m gonna send it back.

I like mine, but it has some issues. The halo strap does not work with my noggin's shape. So I keep losing fidelity as it slips down. Another annoyance is that I keep bumping the PS button while I play. Gets annoying. It also keeps telling me I am too close to my play boundaries even when I am still in the center of it.

Just gotta throw it out there, the background music in these videos actually slaps, I found myself bopping along whilst watching 😂 Got one coming in a couple days, can't wait to give it a spin! Pure speculation here but with the tracking rings back and to the side, despite the size I think I might run into less problems with them bumping into each other (and my face) like I often do with the quest ones. As you showed in the video, I also find myself bringing the tops of the controllers together much more often than the bottoms or weird side angles. Mostly when two-handing a weapon in blade and sorcery or something, with quest 2 controllers I find i have to keep my hands further apart than I would otherwise because of the rings. I can't confirm anything until I try myself in a few days time, but by the looks of these controllers it should be easier to do stuff like this. Actually gonna try that at 17:14 with the Bobovr batteries If my controllers run out of juice - At my own risk of course, because I too like to live dangerously 😏 I do often have real long play sessions and I've been spoiled with the ridiculous battery life on Quest 2 controllers so I'm sure it'll happen eventually lol
@jaybratt Жыл бұрын
I appreciate that fish! I'd love to hear your thoughts after you've had the PSVR2 for a few. I find I bang the rings a LOT LESS than I do on Quest 2 which was a big surprise! There's lots of little options that people are finding to extend the controller life. I didn't like these for the Quest 2 but for the PSVR2 controllers they might be less awkward than cables and you'll still get to live a little dangerously :D amzn.to/41h171r

@@jaybratt Nice, I hadn't thought of those! Sort of forgot they exist, since I agree I don't like them for a Quest. This actually may be a good use case for them! Better than my idea of maybe strapping the Bobo batteries to my forearm or something with a short cable haha

It's funny how headset haptics was almost universally considered to be a useless gimmick pre-release. Oh, and top tip about passthrough - don't use it when drinking tea/coffee! That mug looks to be in exactly the right place for tipping and drinking but it's NOWHERE NEAR. Believe me on this one.

For what reason would you need to wear glasses underneath the head set? I wear glass to see long distance for that reason would I need to wear glasses using the head set or not?

VR recreates the distance of real life. Sadly, that means if you need glasses to see distance, you'll need them to see in VR too.

Hey Jay, have you had any experience with magnetic USB C adapters on any VR headset? What are your thoughts on them if so, and would you have any recommended brands or is it best to stay away?
@Olkv3D Жыл бұрын
Adjusting the volume is a lot simpler than it appears. That first Tile on the left @4:45 that reads Quick Settings is where you can easily access all of the Headset's options. It's all right there; the volume, haptics, IPD Calibration, Eye Tracking, Screen Size, Brightness, etc.
@jaybratt Жыл бұрын
Volume still isn't in the quick settings for me? I know others remarked how weird that is because it seems like the most obvious setting and shouldn't be hard to update. I have the headset on right now and for me quick settings reads: View Surroundings Screen Brightness Screen Size VR Headset Vibration Set Play Area Adjust Visibility Eye Tracking Other Settings (Which takes you fully into the settings menu, still not providing an easy volume option) Has your quick settings had an early update? I wish mine did! :D
@Olkv3D Жыл бұрын
@@jaybratt haha. No, I don't think it did. Although, the headset has recently had an update. I guess I was mistaken about the Volume being in that list. My bad. However, the Quick Menu that you pulled up in your vid to access the Volume can be reorganized, allowing you to put what Icons where you want them and even removing ones that you don't use. - There's a lot of things about the Ps5's UI that are counterintuitive for sure, but hey, at least we finally got Folders! :P

Does it need a specific charger to work. I normally charged it with my big usb-c MacBook plug and wire. Never dropped the oculus or anything. Then when I lost my mac plug I found a usb to usbc adapter using a normal usb iPad plug. The light and the oculus only turns on when plugged in no matter how long I charge it for. So the cable must be sending power to the headset. But the blue oculus logo just pops up. Disappears then pops up again for however long u dare to sit and watch it loop

Hey this is coming from someone who’s had a quest 2 psvr and og quest. I have a ps5 and I have the money to spend on a psvr2 but I’m also leaning towards the quest pro so for someone who has a huge library of quest games and a few for psvr what would you say is the best choice? Price dosent matter to me here I just want a solid headset that I can use until the release of the quest 3.
@kevdar5834 Жыл бұрын
I have all 3 and go way back to Rift CV1. I’m selling my Quest 2 since the Pro renders it obsolete. I might sell the VR2, not crazy about it with current library and mura/cord, but on the fence. If you are thinking about Quest Pro, get it and sell Quest 2 to offset cost. Then when Quest 3 specs are released, compare to Pro and decide which you want. If Quest 3 resolution is better and has pancake lenses with XR2+, you could sell the Pro before release and make it an even swap! That’s what I’m doing.

What is the overall experience of playing flat, non-vr games with psvr2? Is it worth considering as the only display instead of 4k tv or lcd display?
@Olkv3D Жыл бұрын
It displays flat games exceptionally well, especially when it's set to 120hrz and a giant screen. But, it is definitely not an adequate replacement for a traditional TV.

Jay, great review. I think you’re the best overall VR creator out there. That said, I’m surprised you said this is the go-to headset to introduce VR to people. The most annoying thing about the VR2 is the fact that the sweet spot is so tiny, SO finicky, that every new user has to calibrate the IPD and eye position in Settings, AND calibrate eye tracking to get the best visuals. Quest is one click and you’re in VR, sub-10 seconds. Also surprised you’re so impressed with the visuals. I’ve found them to have horrendous mura and very grainy comparing PCVR powered Quest 2/Pro vs VR2. I have all three headsets and a gaming PC.

@The_Keh27 Жыл бұрын
so no onboard volume control, but does that also mean no button to mute your mic quickly? As for banging the rings together, I wonder how it will be in Synth Riders when you combine to make the yellow ball (one of the reasons I liked the moves instead of Quest controllers for that game - move balls be soft). For psvr1, I used nerf dart bumpers on the outside of the lenses, might that work for psvr2, or is there enough space/will it block the eye tracking. If the eye tracking is in the rings around the lenses, I'm curious as to what companies like VR Wave and Reloptix will be doing
