Hey! I remember religiously watching your tutorials back in September 3, 2018 (I date my playlists). I haven't dabbled as much in RPG Maker because I've been into web development/Python, but it's all sweet nostalgia to see you keep helping people! If I should return using the software, you'll be the first person I turn to! Stay safe! 09272020

The only thing in MZ that I really feel the lack of in MV right now is the complete lack of variety in 'dead' sprite poses and that's because I suck at sprite/pixel art editing.

So i made my very first game in VXAce and it was kind of a nightmare to pull off some things. But I got the job done. I moved over to MV for the second game which actually saw a commercial release. It was way easier and a dream to work in. For my current project. I did move to MZ and will use it for the foreseeable future (unless the next one they drop is absolutly amazing. But I think they'll just update the hell out of MZ). The QOL changes in MZ make it a night and day difference (I still jump in to MV to update the other game or to add new features). Some of the UI things are nice (like the list of events on that map). the name for the text box is easier to use. Changing the tile size is nice (I don't use it. but I can see how it's useful for some styles). Honestly. I'd suggest jumping to MZ if you have MV and are starting a new project. Not to mention. MV had a problem playing videos. MZ doesn't seem to have that issue.

Looks like MV when it had yanfly scripts. Instead of fixing the hole that was left after she left they decided to monetize their inhouse solution. Smart move but very disappointing for users. After 5 years since MV was lauch I really expected some true evolution. Mz could be just an MV patch if they took users serious.

Okay, I have a question, does MZ take away the limited format in tilesets? MV tilesets are so tiny for what I need, I loved how in XP I coule basically combine all the tilesets into one sheet and use it across all maps, it was a lot easier for me to do what I needed to do, the lack of chosing my layers in MV means I have to make my own tilesets for my needs, I feel everything is too squared off, and I don't have the sanity level to gimp to parallax all my maps, it would drive me insane. most tilesets don't cover the graphics I need, and if I do get something I like, most of the other tilesets won't match the style I want, so it's either use what's there, or make everything myself from scratch and again, my spoons/spell slots get spent easily, and it's frustrating when you have a crap laptop, or a crap computer, or poor eyesight, or shakey hands that doesn't let you do what you want to do. (literally spent 3+ days working on a set of just trees with different positions, differernt combinations for less layers needed, and variety of colors for fall, spring, etc option, 3 days for just trees, and they take up at least 2 tilesets! I only get room for like 2 more tilesets and they have to be other things that can blend in with the trees, give me my options back RPGMAKER!)

I don't think the problem from the software itself, but from the accessibility for ressources like plugins, like the VisustellaMZ which is really expensive for indies.

Plenty of folks buy every version for the graphics XD Since you cannot use them otherwise. I finally got it due to a sale, since I wanted its graphics but some plugins I have for MV have extra features only in their MZ versions @.@;;; but then you do have a rare few with the opposite...several of MongHunter's plugins are a good show of that and have more features weirdly in MV instead of MZ.

Depending of what DLC you talk about. Music and Tileset can be reused in RPG Maker MZ. Plugins as far as I know, which are programmed for MV are only usable for MV, not MZ. Hope that was helpful :) Happy makering

Doesn't MZ allow you to export games to the Switch via the MZ Player on Switch? Isn't that new?
@BenderWaffles4 жыл бұрын
Unless there is some hidden way to do so, this does not seem to be a feature currently available (deployment options include Windows, Mac and HTML5). If I am made aware of it in the future, I will do a video updating it accordingly. Though honestly, that wouldn't have really affected my review score all too much.
@james-michaelsellers38844 жыл бұрын
There's not an MZ Player on Switch. The Player software on Switch and PS4 is for the MV Version (more like MV+ in some ways and MV- in others but it really is MV). In addition, each Player can only access the respective system's online system (that is, PS4 Player can only access games made on PS4 MV - Switch could probably access PS4, but IIRC a lot of people were saying Sony locked it down). What I have found myself doing is development on MZ on my PC, and then porting over to the console versions (I have both because I'm crazy). The benefit there is that if I'm going to be on vacation and in the car for a while, I can do dev work on the Switch, and then bring it back to PS4 and PC. PC for dev, Switch for additional dev and testing, and PS4 for just kicking back and playing it. I think some people have found a way to access mv games on switch, but not in an official way.

In my opinion : no, because rpg maker game developpement really rely a lot on plugins and one of the main plugin library which was before affordable (Yanfly Yep) on MV is now developped by VisustellaMz, and in my opinion is too expansive for indie.

@@LiEnby yes i know but the price for yep still affordable and raisonnable compared to visustella MZ, of course, i know that visustella MZ is a team and everyone need to make money, but some plugin are really too much expansive for the functionnality they provide (example : $15.00 for class change system, another : yep total cost 30 dollar $, visustella MZ 100 $). And i won't talk about the typical anwser : if you don't want to pay do it yourself since RPG maker is basically for people who have only a few basic in programmation

1) it's a relatively expensive piece of software, that is one in a long line of revisions. So of course the discussion is gonna focus on how it compares to what came before, especially when it's such a minor upgrade. 2) If you actually watched the video, you'd know that at the end I literally answer your question. If you have the previous version, no. Don't buy it. If you don't, then yes. By all means buy it.
