Should you buy Seiko SKX in 2024? SKX vs Seiko 5 SRPD Sport

Just the shoutout that the EDC Gunner is one of the few fully honest watch reviewers on KZbin, with more than a decade of experience in watch collecting, both affordable and luxury time pieces, thus his opinion really counts. Seiko started making slim case watches in 1978 with the 7548, the SKX came out in 1996. There are hundreds of videos like this on YT of people who just don't bother to learn the basics before ranting the same "the SKX was better than the new 5Sports" and they make no sense.

I have an SKX009K and an SKX011J2 and two Seiko 5 watches. The SRPK11J1 and the SSK003J1 . They’re all awesome but there’s something legendary and iconic about the SKX watches 👍🏻💯

It's a pity they didn't keep the lume the same size as the SKX.

I had the SKX007 and to be honest, it really felt outdated to me. I did strap and bracelets updates, it really is solid, but the 7S26 movement made it feel odd to me. It is top heavy as well. I sold it and bought a PADI Pepsi Turtle and also a King Turtle and I really felt the difference in quality and balance. I also have a limited edition 5KX and on that one I really miss the screw down crown, but the dial and bezel materials on that one feel better. It's the 140 anniversary 5KX. I think we need to let go of the SKX007. For the prices they're at, it's not worth it in my opinion.
