As someone who only has about 5600 hours play-time. I think I might need a few more hours to get an understanding of the game, there's just a lot of content, I keep learning new things I never learned before each time I play. Jokes aside, extremely fun game, highly recommended. Although I do wish it was more popular, with larger server counts

You forgot to mention that those dlcs unlocks mostly cosmetics like new lights, a reskin of the tires, and decorations in general. The things that can actually take advantage from it in combat or something is grid snapping like the helm block which has two grid snapping points instead of the usual 1 point from other control blocks But still, great video

The other thing I like to mention about the DLCs. Is the price. I spend more on a number 3 at Wendys or small personal pan pizza at pizza hut than I do on the DLCs. They are dirt cheap. If you can afford a kids meal at your favorite fast food restaurant than you can comfortably buy any of the DLCs. Plus you don't need them to play the game BUT they do give SE a more modern look.

The way you comment make it as if the paid DLCs are PTW... that is completely incorrect. All blocks that heavily impact the game are Free UPDATES to the game. ALL DLCs are either cosmetic or give certain blocks which add a little enhancement to your build. Nothing game breaking or giving unfair advantage are in the DLCs. As a reviewer, kindly be more accurate in your assessment.

The problem is, in a sandbox game where the main content is designing ships and stations, cosmetics are literally the only updates the game gets that mean anything. It’s not like their adding new core mechanics and developing functional areas of the game and just releasing cosmetic dlc alongside it. All new content from the past few years has been cosmetic-only except for some minor additions. You pretty much have to pay extra to receive updates.

Any first time players looking at this game, i HIGHLY recommend finding a guy on youtube called Splitsie, he has a very in depth tutorial series he has made. I used to think this game was waaaay to complicated, ive had the game since it first came to full release bit i haven't played it till two weeks ago because thats when i stumbled across Splitsies tutorial series and it makes things so easy to figure out. Also, GET THE DLC's, no they dont unlock any game changing content but they are dirt cheap and honestly some of the non DLC textures are bleh, like the batteries. if you cant afford the DLC's still get the game, like i said the DLCs dont actually change the way you play the game, they dont give anyone an edge over anyone else, its all about looks. You really need to re-do this video, your going to put a lot of people off making them think they arent going to get ANY new updates unless they pay. EVERY SINGLE DLC release is also accompanied by a simultaneous free update which adds all the same stuff just without looking as cool. The DLC's are ONLY for looks! And if you dont like the look of the UI there are plenty of mods out there that add colors to the UI or change the layout. I personally always use Colorful icons and A Fresh New View by NorcaSystems, love the way my hud looks with those two mods.

EVERY paid DLC was released with a major update that included free blocks and bug fixes (some better than others).. no DLC had any 'pay to win' element other than a very early DLC that came with a slightly tougher cockpit block (because it had 4 of a component called "metal grids", which are used to give blocks higher hp than the "standard" version of the block.. specificaly thinking of armour blocks).. and a DLC released not long after that, charged for a block that the community thought COULD be seen as P2W, and in the next hot fix that block was then released free of charge to the vanilla game you dont have to own any DLC to be able to USE the dlc blocks.. you just cant PLACE the dlc blocks (and if you are projecting a blueprint to weld up that has the dlc blocks.. your build's integrity is at risk because YOU cant place that block, tho.. thats your own fault for not looking at the blueprint desciption first, tbh).. but your friend who does own the dlc can place it.. and you can use it.. you can even OWN that block if its ownership is tranfered to you, if your friend who has the dlc transfers it to you.. it just means you cannot replace the block if it gets destroyed the paid DLC contains new skins for blocks that are already in the game.. that is all... and any blocks that are intruduced that may change game play in any way are ALWAYS included with the free update/bug fix part of the patch for example.. one DLC came with the usual new skins (both charecter and block skins) but there was also new armour blocks varients that came free with the bug fix update.. a more recent update brought in new ship weapon blocks and new game mechanics surrounding ship warfare.. all of which were free apart from 2 DLC weapons which were reworked skins of a rocket pod and static gattling gun, which have always been in the base game... there was more skins included in the DLC but the huge part of the patch was the 226 bug fixes and improvements to game mechanics you also have to realise.. that most of the DLC blocks, are Keens versions of community modded blocks (which are free in the workshop).. there are thousands of mods but not all still work/up-to-date and can cause game instability as a result Keen have made some poor desisions in the past.. but on the whole they are now making up for it with the last 3 major updates making huge improvements to the game what they are doing is spending money on the bug-fixes first and then asking if you want to buy some reskins to offset the money they have already spent on employee monthly pay.. and every DLC has been the price (£2.89) that most shops are (at the time of typing this) asking for a 3 litre bottle of pepsi cola (£2.25 -ish) so, sorry.. your 'con' point about "frequent updates coming in the form of DLC's" is misleading at best p.s. 2500+ hours in game.. and yes, i have eleven DLC icons on my loading screen

As a building sandbox this game is great. You can build your fantasy space ship and walk around it as it flies around space at a glacial 200mph. There's so many cons with Space Engineers that aren't mentioned... 1. Survival mode is just creative mode except it forces you to grind for resources. There's no real progression or goal/threat to work towards once you have the most basic early game setup. You can set goals for yourself and build that ginormous ship, but that's no real in-game reason to. With the exception of a couple of resources, there's no reason to even go into space, let alone other planets. 2. There is a hard speed limit of 100/ms, so basically your space ship flying between planets will never go faster than the car you built on the ground. Mods can change this but it may wreck havoc, and of course it's a change not intended by the developers because their physics system will break down at high speeds. 3. It's super janky/unfinished, there's a ton of features that just seem to be abandoned but still left floating around in the game. It doesn't feel cohesive or well thought out. There's basically no game play except what you invent in your imagination. It's like maybe 1/3rd of a game.

While DLC blocks may look completely different from base blocks, they have absolutely no actual advantage over others other than looking pretty cool, even the construction costs are no different from the standard ones

All the new weapons released in their warfare updates were part of the free end of the updates. All of their updates come with free blocks and feature. The only thing the dlc packs offer are some extra blocks or variations on existing blocks that 9 times out of 10 are just cosmetic in nature and offer no advantages over any of the base blocks in game. The dlc is also very reasonably priced at between $4 usd per pack. With the deluxe expansion for the game being $8 usd. I'm however in agreement with the 8/10 rating as the game is a lot of fun but while in full release it has its fair share of bugs the Keen software house is very good about addressing

My only real complaint with this game review is what you mention about the dlc. Dlc is released along side massive game changing updates that are available for everyone. The dlc will only ever give you access to cosmetic blocks. Especially with the new weapons update every weapon is available and the dlc weapons are simply reskins with no different mechanics. I should also mention that dlc blocks will still show up in your world regardless of if you have them, you just can't really place them yourself unless you have the dlc.

I think the only advantage DLC gives over vanilla other than looking spiffy is the industrial assembler has one more upgrade slot than standard. Warfare 2 has a bunch of block useful in pvp scenarios like barricades and cover but otherwise DLC is completely optional. It’s also rather cheap at around $4 per pack. I have all of them except wasteland and have spent less on the game for more hours than I have on Rome 2 or HOI4 both of which I enjoy but the business models are hell on my wallet.

I wonder how Starfield will impact the space-sandbox genre. Either it will be much more pollished and drag people away from Space Engineers, or it will make more people interested in other games of the genre.

ABSOLUTELY! I never heard of it before about a month ago, and I'm completely addicted to it. Today I rebuilt my first ship, and wow, what a difference, the first one looks like a Lego version compared to my new version. I have build Asteroid bases, Bridge bases over canyons, orbit bases, bases on arctic oceans, bases under water, in volcanos and at the bottom of craters. THAT doesn't include the fleet of ships including tactical ships, carriers, cruisers, shuttles and more! It is like the Sims, but in space with ships and stuff lmao. (creative mode) Add, survival mode and it's just a whole new baby. HOW this game isn't MORE popular, as I have never heard of it before, is beyond me. EVERY boy's dream game! If you like games like Sims, Planet Zoo and so forth, you will love this. THE workshop alone makes it worth! This game is not very frustrating, all things considered, Planet Zoo was way more frustrating than this. THE sky in this game is NOT the limit!

Yeah I hadn't heard of this game for the first four years of its existence, until I blundered across a random post on discord of some user showing off their ship build. Everything after that was history.

This is the game I always come back to. Since the release, I have installed this game probably more than any other game. That said, I end up downloading some outdated scenarios and large ship mods that lags out my game. If I can comprehend starting the engines the ship barely moves, my brain collapses, I uninstall.

i disagree with the DLC point yes to every uptdate there is a dlc package but... everytime a update comes out thera are all features gamplay wise free in the base game dlcs only add new blocks, looks and skins the blocks added by DLCs are only for decoration ore are a reskin or model of original block for example a SCI-FI thruster it looks cool but dosnt offer any gamplay atvantage becourse it shares the same stats with the non DLC thruster

The game is a fun survival and building game, but the hostile enemy is too easy and the world is too empty. What I recommend is to add PvE mods that add more enemies and even neutral AI to explore even more the world.

Having a bottomless bucket of space LEGO with hinges, rotors and pistons, is just badass!! I barely play anything else these days.. If I play an RPG now, I feel, Why can't I knock down this wall? Or, why can't I build a vehicle to cover this ground faster? :D The new weapons aren't DLC, that is incorrect.. There are some weapon skins in DLC, but that is different.. DLC is mostly cosmetic, but after a few thousand hours of play, you buy them anyway! :D

CORRECTION: The game updates for free and the DLCs are cosmetic vertions + few decrative blocks. All essential and important features are in base game.
@LethalOwl
@LethalOwl 2 ай бұрын
Bears repeating that the "con" regarding the new updates is wrong. No unique weapon blocks or functional blocks are locked behind DLC, only "variations" of existing blocks of the same type. The DLCs are basically just adding alternative variants of what you get in the base game, each update adding new blocks for free - as well as 'paid' variants.
@indigenous.rabbit2877
@indigenous.rabbit2877 2 жыл бұрын
The DLC's are not a problem in my opinion: -they are super cheap. -you don't need them to play the game. -most of the blocks you get in them are just reskins of existing blocks from the base game or are just quality of life things/ decorations. -in an online server setting you get the DLC blocks for free because otherwise it would be unfair that other players can use them while you can't. Only offline you don't have them. -space engineers is a 2014 game that is still actively being worked on, the Devs didn't add pay to win or lootboxes etc. and this is just a little bit of extra income for them to keep developing the game.

Probably should mention the mods, i have 2000+ hours on this game, purely because of mods alone. also your very wrong about the DLCs they are cosmetic for the most part only. But i do agree with your UI assesment, its so clunky in alot of ways, and unfinished feeling, like it would be great to be able to have GPS points in folders for organising for instance.

I really do like this game. The lighting and effects are really cool as well as what you can build. But everything just feels so tedious. After 50 hours and seeing what people can build, all I can think of is, that's a lot of left mouse holding and running back and forth. Yes you can build welding ships and rigs. But the 100 m/s speed limit in a space game is what really kills it for me. 223 mph... But at least you can build a jump drive pretty far into the game. In the meantime though, enjoy trudging around at the speed of a pretty fast car.

You don't have to build batteries, ever, unless you want to. It's a good idea but it's not strictly necessary like you said in the bases/station intro. And you straight up lied on DLC. You have to pay for cosmetic reskins but new functional blocks, like the weapons recently added, are free updates.

1st time SE players. Let us just stick to getting to space from earth like planet 1st. The 1st ship usually just nose dive into the ground since you don't have enough thruster. I say just stick to the base game until you like it enough to get the dlc

I'm up to 3900 hours into the game and still feel like I have so much left to do. Even having bought all the DLC I still well and truly got my money worth. As others have said, the DLCs are primarily cosmetic. Every major update comes with DLC, but all the gameplay changes are included free. Also as long as one person you play with has the DLC, they can place any blocks you want to use from it for you.

I wouldn't mind that the shapes of the spaceships take away from the realism. The whole concept of using boosters to propel youself forward and then just stop in a straight line with boosters on the other side until you float motionless in space is so far away from realistic space travel anyway, that it doesn't really matter.

I feel like you can't really get a proper feel for the game in just 24 hours. Like you said, it's hard to cover all aspects of the game in such a short amount of time, but even players with over 1k hours still learn new things all the time. Additionally, the updates are always free. Most of the major ones, however, include a DLC. You do not have to spend money to update the game. And even if you did, the DLCs are dirt cheap. $3.99 each, I believe. On top of that, you can buy them in bulk for a discount, or even wait to get them all on sale. Virtually the entire game is completely playable without the DLCs. There are very few blocks that actually have unique functions that are both not found anywhere else or decoration. The console (small projections), the industrial assembler (2 extra upgrade slots), the embrasure (honestly never gets used), and the passage 3 variants (the light being convenient and the windowed being slightly tougher) are the only ones that really make a difference. There are also the armor skins, which are cosmetic.

I have roughly 1500 hours in this game. Put that against the base price of the game, AND all the DLCs, and that's still ridiculously cheap entertainment per hour. If you like the premise of the game I would say absolutely get it. If you don't like the vanilla experience mods can completely transform the game in just about any way you want. Want to be forced to eat, drink, sleep and deficate? Mods can add that. Want (semi) realistic tanks? There's mods for it. Want fighter planes with sidewinder missiles? There's mods for it. Want a battleship to sail the ocean blue? Mods. Want to just make the game all but unrecognizable as Space Engineers and have it look like some kind of Star Citizen clone instead? Well, you get where I'm going here. Don't think for a second that you are locked into anything in SE.
