If you think a car must have active suspension - then it isn’t for you. If you think a car must have a German badge - then it isn’t for you. If you think a car must be a manual to be a sports car - then it isn’t for you. If you have never driven one and slag it off - then it isn’t for you. If you can’t see why some of the world's most respected car designers, journalists and petrol heads rate this car - then it isn’t for you. Go drive one and it might just change your mind.

As someone who's had an Alpine A110 Premier Edition for 2 years, it is a little beast. It ALWAYS catches people by surprise and holds its own along side AMGs & M cars. Amazing car, don't judge the 1.8l, it is VERY capable.

Great video Paul , certainly captured the feeling of driving an A110 . I have just ordered A110 gt as wanted balance between comfort and sport. Yes it’s 60k but people should look at the residuals and Alpine PCP option and it makes financial sense ( if ever a car does) . Lots of people don’t realise that with inflation running at 9 % and Likely to be high for next few years , newer cars will hold more value and you balloon payment further down the road will in real terms be less .Oh and chances of me seeing another A110 gt on the road is highly unlikely .

Very good review and well summarised the pleasure we can get with this car. I just got mine an S 2022 and all I want to do is find good roads to drive no matter where it goes, exactly as you commented.

Saw a few of these at the British Motorshow last year. Sadly missed out on a driving experience in one but still got to sit in one. The looks alone in blood orange was a good enough reason for it to be added to my ever growing dream car list. Gorgeous little car.

I like the alpine, and feel like if you bought one, you'd be the only one driving around in one. Has that exclusivity which is cool. Just can't justify that price though.

Why does 300bhp 'sound like a small number'? I really don't understand. A Mk1 Golf GTI was about 115bhp, this A110S is almost three times as much. A Clio 220 Trophy is 220bhp, and weighs about the same, so I'd say 300bhp is not a small number by any reckoning

Paul, if Alpine shudda dropped a manual box in the latest S model, it would have sold a lot better. Oh I'm surprised Seb D didn't give you a run in his A110 a while back.

Unfortunately they didn’t have the budget to develop it in both manual and auto. Auto was the better financial choice for them. It’s a shame but I feel that once they are able to, a manual will arrive whether it’s a future generation of this or the joint project car with Lotus.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and it’s one of the best all round daily cars for driver focus but there are better drivers cars out there. Things like a caterham and atom spring to mind but they aren’t that useable. An elise is probably the sweet spot of being driver focused whilst still being considered a ‘conventional’ car. Still it’s a fair bit less practical than the GR
