I think 1440p generally makes more sense for ALL current GPU's (even the RTX 4090) - When running current and undoubtably future AAA titles at MAX settings w/ ray tracing, etc. 1440p will be a better option vs. 4K where's frame rates will be much lower say 60fps vs. 90fps+ and personally I'd choose 1440p / 90fps+ over 4K / 60FPS any day of the week. Ideally in a perfect world you'd have both a 1440p - 240hz monitor and a 4K - 120hz display and depending on the particular game one or the other may be optimal. However, if (1) option is the choice I'd go with 1440P-240hz. Anyways, regarding the RTX 4070 at $600 USD it's actually not even REMOTELY as bad a deal as many reviewers continue to make it out to be. I think the issue that is upsetting people for the most part is the notion of being considered "mid tier" when years ago $600 USD would be considered "top tier".. Personally I think this is a total non issue as prices simply don't remain static and it's not like we have many decades of prior GPU data to look back upon regardless. I mean just look at automobiles for example, $30K not that many years ago meant something different than it does currently where's $30K basically gets you into entry level Honda, Mazda, etc.

you forgot that there is DLSS for that! DLSS quality runs the game @1440 while (depending on the implementation) looking better than 4K native on screens that are 48" to 65". while 1440p just looks so bad on anything bigger than 27" and using DLSS on 1440p just does not look as good as using it on 4K. So the 4090/4080 and their Ti models that are coming soon are fine for at least 1 year after the 50 series launch

@@supreme5998 the 3070 beats the 2080Ti so its just fair to want 4070 to beat the 3080ti, irl it does not even beat the 3080. DLSS is not a placebo nor it introduces latency, in-fact it reduces latency compared to native. and even the new frame generation (the real placebo) have a latency penalty that is less than the native res if you use reflex, go watch DF about DLSS.

Yep, agreed. I don't feel comfortable that future games with RT would happily run at 4K, whereas 1440P + RT is getting pretty solid FPS in every game currently. The upgrade in video quality from 1080P is amazing but I don't feel 4K is going to be /that much better/ than 1440P, so I'd rather have the extra FPS. I wish more reviewers would be realistic about where we are with RT in 2023, and concentrate on 1440P results. All the shiny 4K results are pretty meaningless for most people with low/midrange systems

Their customer service is bad. MY rtx 2060 super 8 gb died after 1.5 years and after 40 days of waiting they replace it with rtx 3050 far worse card. They didn't even asked me anything, just shipped new card.

I think this is the obvious choice for small cases which can't fit the 300mm+ schlongs that most modern GPUs have become. Combined with its efficiency, this should perform pretty well even in tighter spaces without turning your PC into a literal toaster.

Re power requirements: Despite what PSU-calculators tell me ... from all the reviews I've found so far and their total power-draw results, I'm pretty sure I could get away with running the 4070 and even the 4070Ti on my Seasonic 550 Gold Plus. I've been running a 3070 in that system now for more than half a year and have had zero issues. And I do run VR and quite a lot of USB devices (for flight-sims). I'm currently trying to decide between a 4070 and a 4070 Ti and I'm pretty sure I'll keep the 550W if I go 4070 (its TDP is lower than that of the 3070) and I would probably even risk it with the 550W if I do decide to spend more and go 4070Ti.

@@SleepyFen No - the RTX 4090 believe it or not isn't somehow "too powerful" for 1440p - It's not JUST a "4K card" as many seem to suggest. With maxed out settings + Ray tracing, etc. 1440p is more than enough to utilize the RTX 4090 while achieving far superior frame rates vs. the same settings at 4K. Personally I'd take 1440p@ 90+FPS over 4K / 60FPS any day of the week. I have both a 1440p - 240hz IPS monitor as well as a 4K -120Hz / HDMI 2.1 / OLED - VRR LG TV - 1440p - 240hz is my preference overall with my RTX 4090 - Ryzen 9 7900X - 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000Mhz/ 30CL system. There's also the scenario of much faster paced FPS games where 240Hz > 120Hz by a mile - where running at 1440p makes more sense vs. running at 4K with an RTX 4090 - This isn't just a "4K card" and this will continue to make itself more apparent in the years ahead, especially with UE5/ Nanite, more advanced ray tracing and so on. Overall I think the RTX 4090 is best for people who want to play the most demanding games at 1440p/90FPS+ at MAX settings w/ ray tracing / fast-paced FPS games at 240Hz, etc. I think the same will be mostly true with the RTX 4080 as well but probably not at "MAX" settings and lower FPS and to a lesser extent the RTX 4070Ti game dependent of course. So “you do you” with a 4K display getting crap performance by comparison :) Even older titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Control, Halo Infinite, etc, etc are MUCH better played at 1440p w/ RTX 4090 so again 1440p will continue to be the most sensible way to go. But yeah enjoy your “console like” performance running at 4K -knock yourself out :) A pretty “static image” doesn’t mean much unless you have the performance to back the in-motion clarity. Also 1080p to 1440p is a far bigger leap in how the games actually appear on a standard 27’ high refresh monitor. Diminishing returns after 1440p.

@@erickelly4107 tl;dr of what you wrote: if money isn't an object, nothing is overkill. But the 4090 isn't needed to play games at high/max settings at 1440p unless you're specifically looking to turn on ray tracing and hate the notion of using DLSS. *Especially* when you're not using a super high frame rate monitor in the first place (as in OP's case). In the vast majority of cases, it is overkill by a wide margin in the same way that you don't need a ballistic missile to take out a moped when a hand grenade would do. If OP is happy, then by all means that's great. But that doesn't mean the card isn't overkill.

Great Video, keep it up. ive upgraded from 1070 to this card and price to performance, this card is best. 4070ti is way over priced as well as the 480. ill use this Palit 4070 and might swap it out next year when the 500 series arrives hopefully 500 series will be a game changer like the 300 series was to the 200 series. fingers crossed.

I think thermals are still a massively underrated benchmark. Making less heat means using less power, using less power means more headroom for overclocking, but do keep in mind that there's more to overclocking than just core clocks, don't forget memory speeds too.

I went to BestBuy and they had a 4070 for $550 and the 7800xt for $520. The next step up was a 4070ti for $800 which still has 12gbs of Vram. I went with the 4070 and loving it so far

I got a 4070 and was a 1060 owner. Definitely a lot of the people going to 40 series will be coming from 10 series. 20 series you probably have some time left, and you probably wouldn't be upgrading a 30 series unless it broke. I tend to replace my cards every 3rd generation. Before 1060 had 660ti. Went to 70 series this time because i recently bought a 1440p native monitor. I noticed the big price jump to 70 series as much as the performance difference. Both were huge lol.

@@andreasbeshkin8852 I bought inno3d x2 because where I live it was 25% cheaper than asus dual. I will feel fine as long as I'm in 10% performance gap. I didnt have time to properly test yet. Only run 1 time spy test to see if the card works. I saw it boosted up to 2790mhz and hit 70C max. without any fan optimization, just plug and play. I didnt even made my case and gpu fans to run 100% as I usually do for benchmarking. the rest of pc was in my daily "silent enough" fan curve.

I undervolted my gpu to 0.95V and it boosts to 2730mhz. power usage is unbelievably low on this card. doesnt pass 160w with this setting, usually hovers on 120w in diablo 4. I play 1440p@144hz diablo4 all maxed, dlss and frame generation off, g-sync enabled. maybe the game isn't taxing enough yet I'm really happy about my purchase.

I'm currently using this card rtx 4070 palit dual playing on 1440p 165 hz and also had no problems with it playing warzone at high frames 160 fps plus with settings set to high. obviously i cap my frames to 162fps so that it doesnt go past my monitors refresh rate wich is 165hz and i know it does go higher than 165. but anyways im happy with this card. i would highly recommend it because it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg with just as good performance as all the other expensive cards out there

Thank you so much for the non Nvidia price/performance Bashing Video! My thinking is this: With this card nearly everything is over 100fps, and Raytracing (which I really like) doesn't tank it as brutally hard, than all AMD offerings at the moment. In Cyberpunk RTX Overdrive DLSS2 Auto + DLSS3 on 1440p, is mostly above 70fps, on an VRR Display this looks and feels amazing. It's like you said, 3080 Performance + Frame Generation for "the same" MSRP than the 3080 "theoretically" was, and nearly still costs used today used... P.S. I am really nitpicky about Visual Artifacts, but I don't know how or why, but frame generation looks way better (in Cyberpunk), than I thought possible. I haven't seen any weird behaviour yet.

I noticed that whenever you run any game tests, your monitor is G-Sync capable BUT you don't have G-Sync enabled, why is that...??? I know you're going for all out performance, but G-Sync brings a lot to the table, namely adaptive sync, which can do a lot in terms of performance and quality... IF one were to wait for a better perf/value, you'd be waiting for the rest of your life, because there are always going to be better perf/value, it's just a matter whether you want to play now, or wait for all eternity... You can lower the power draw on thundermaster I’ve set mine to 80 percent power draw and it still runs flight sim native 4k with frame generation on getting 72 fps

VRAM will become issue in 2 years is my guess (if you play 1440p or higher). I have RTX4070 and I know it. I wanted Nvidia features like DLSS and frame generation and small amount of VRAM is the price I had to pay. I couldn't justify the price of 4080 though.

Zotac has got higher temperatures, if the price difference is not too high, go for Palit Dual. Also if you have 2K resolution I would recommend getting Palit with 3 fans but for 1080 it is a perfect GPU.

Gpu is going to give a bigger performance gain than a cpu upgrade in your case. Yes 13900k plus 3060ti obviously gets more fps than 13600k and 3060ti but it's diminishing returns, the 13600k and rx 6800 for example would get much more fps

In a GPU limited scenario the CPU doesn't matter at all and vice versa. Balance is the preferred build so that each component work as close as possible to 100% in every scenario. Otherwise you'll leave performance on the table and are paying extra for nothing.

Once this card drops to under £450-ish, it'll be a reasonable choice, but by then, we'll probably be into 5000 cards, and the next gen of AMD cards earlier than that. I get the sense that 4070 will be looking a bit out-classed fairly quickly, which is only a problem if you pay £600 for one now. If they'd given it 16gb and the matching higher bus speed, for the same cost, it would have been a very different story, and price vs longevity would not look quite so bad.

Nvidia creates Ray tracing for gaming, even thou it’s not necessary, needed or wanted by many. Nvidia recreates their Ray tracing gpus to use said technology, then increases the Ray tracing complexity……. Then recreates their GPU lineup to play the higher Ray tracing features 🙈🤦‍♀🤦. From the video card comparison videos that I've seen it would appear that the 4070 TI is just barely beating the 3080 and the 3080 TI and I do mean barely so basically if you can find a used 3080 cheaper than a new 4070 or 4070 TI just get the 3080

Used cards are too cheap to buy any 4xxx right now. I'm sure there's some exceptions but the best price vs performance is in higher end used cards from last-gen. Just make sure to get lots of vram.

This GPU should have been the 4060Ti tbh cuz the performance gap between it and the 4070 Ti is twice as large than the gap between the 4070Ti and the 4080, and knowing Nvidia, they prolly planned this for a 4070 Super to come in between them? noo one knows what they are capable off this time lol
