@@Lockn4r Shocking Tracking behavior never fixed in 3 years. Both pro and normal controllers have very poor tracking when playing games requiring fast motion such as Tennis or boxing. I've broken two controllers because they wouldn't track the wall during a fast swing. This is very disappointing considering the high cost of the pro controller (250 USD) Customer support is very unhelpful and they ask you to purchase new products or go to an out of warranty program where you will be out of pocket. Very very poor when its their fault the controller broke in the first place. Definitely not buying meta again.

As a non gamer granny, my son got me into VR, he’s always been interested in it. I’m so happy that he did. I’m currently playing Red Matter 2, a fantastic game, still having problems moving as I’m getting used to more precision on the controllers, but that will improve with practice. That’s just one aspect, I love the meditation apps as well as beat sabre and mini golf. I haven’t tried any of the social worlds yet, maybe in the future. And as my grandkids have a headset, we can now discuss games, it’s brought us closer together, especially as they live in Australia and I’m in Canada. I agree, I'm older as well and really enjoy the physical and mental exercise I get from VR. I have toured the world, kayayed through the jungle and Antarctica, as well as enjoyed many of the games I used to sit and play on the PC. I work outside everyday so I am not a sedentary person, but I enjoy the occasional FPS games on my PC. The VR has taken that to a whole new level and allowed me to get off the chair and immerse myself. I visited the local VR Adventure Zones with the grandnephew to try it first and see what all the fuss was about. Really enjoyed it, and decided to purchase the MetaQuest 3 based upon my experience.

VR will go mainstream as hardware improves and software continues to be more compelling. People struggled with eye strain when TV was invented. They typed one word a minute when everyone started using computers for AOL. People experienced dizziness when 3D first person shooters came out. VR games and other experiences are getting more innovation. It's not just the immersion factor. Aiming weapons and tools with your hands is more faster and accurate than a thumbstick or mouse. Using melee weapons with your arms is more engaging. Looking around with your head is better than moving a camera with a gamepad. Being able to see other players body language is awesome. And its easier to see small things like inventory icons and hidden items with a lifelike scale display.
@NintenPizza4 ай бұрын
I think it will go mainstream by the earlier 2030's. Once Headsets transition into thick-glasses(With no top middle strap for weight distribution), are noticeably lighter, have higher resolution, use wireless connectivity to consoles for a lot more power etc. Basically eliminating those pesky friction points or barriers that prevent most people from giving it a chance. As of now, headsets like Q3 are still headsets, are kind of heavy, plus the tablet visuals won't cut the mustard for most, and the resolution, as awesome as pancake clarity is, with just over 2K per eye is still isn't comparable to 4K resolution on a TV. I think by Quest 5(Oct 2029), Meta will have found true success, and Nintendo will probably jump on board with VR/MR as a side accessory for Switch 3, and Sony may just in fact jump back in to get a piece of that pie, with PS6
@jasonkarger812 ай бұрын
Yes it’s more engaging, but it’s definitely not quicker than controller clicking. Raising ur arm and doing the whole motion is much longer than simply clicking a button
@blastofo2 ай бұрын
@@jasonkarger81 Using your arms for melee combat isnt faster, its for immersion. Aiming weapons though is faster and more accurate. Your hand has much more finesse than a thumbstick, and targets are easier to hit on a lifelike scale display vs a tv or monitor. Not to mention Quest controllers have lower input latency than any bluetooth gamepad, even on pcvr. For example, I can mine so much faster in No Mans Sky, being able to hit rocks far off in the distance with ease.

@@jasonkarger81 You can start with VR titles with a fixed perspective. Puzzling Places is probably my most played VR game. I cant get tired of it, even after hundreds of hours. Moss 1 and 2 are also excellent. Vegas Infinite is free and very good. And games that are mixed reality or have passthrough background options are good for making the transition. But you'll get used to VR and the motion sickness will go away with time. Just take some breaks, have some ginger, or those anti nausea tablets people use when going on ships.

Since I picked up a Q3 in February, you've been one of my favorite guides into the world of VR. As a long time gamer, I'd been wanting to get into VR for a while but couldn't justify the price of a new PC at the time. Once I finally upgraded to a PC that could run PCVR (not great, but enough to run No Man's Sky), I heard about Quest 3. It would fulfil my PCVR needs AND run stand alone. This means I can play stuff like Alyx and NMS at home and bring the Q3 to work so I can relax on break. I was thinking about picking up a second headset when the rumors of Q3s started getting more common, but no specs were out yet. Then the Q2 price dropped and I decided that rather that wait for 3s, I'd grab a Q2 and wait to see what the specs for 3s were. Now that we have better info on 3s, I'm leaning towards just getting another Q3. I won't bother with another 512g, for a spare/secondary the 128n should be fine. Then I'll be all set for a little local play with friends, or watching shows with my GF.

I'm with you on that one. After being so accustomed to Q3, going back to the PSVR2's Fresnel lenses can be pretty rough, topped with the high persistence/Motion blur OLED display, being tethered to a cable, headset discomfort due to the lack of padding around the nose area, Mura, and those Ring'd controllers can even rub against the side of your hands which can be annoying. I'll miss those deep blacks & rich/vibrant colours though! :P If Sony ever did a PSVR2 revision, I'll be there day one. But based on now, Q3 + PC(4090, and then 5090 towards the end of the year) is the ultimately way to fly for VR.

Don't get me wrong, I genuinely enjoy using my Quest 3... when I get the chance, because, real life. But the binocular overlap of the Pico 4 is substantially better than even the Quest 3, and the Pico 4's balance and weight, despite actually being a little heavier than the Quest 3 in its natural state, is hands-down better, particularly once I got hold of a better-fitting (for me) facial interface and, again in my case, added AMVR's overpriced, but good "halo" addition. Yes, VR is not for everyone and most VR headsets are expensive, some more than others. Plus many of the VR headsets require a very good computer and graphics cards to enjoy the VR world. Also the games and applications will cost a certain amount of money besides just the VR headset costs. It depends on what computer activities you do, social, gaming, work, etc. VR can be used for each of these. Many VR headsets have allot of features and quality differences. Do you need wireless operations, eye tracking, good pass through capabilities, and high resolutions? How comfortable will the VR headset be if worn for long periods of time? I have been using several VR headsets since the first Oculus Rift came out and always been a PC system user. I do mainly gaming with the headsets and enjoy the immersion we get with VR. There are many you tube videos on the various VR headsets out now or soon to be released, so watch them and see if any of them fit your bill to using VR, and compare pricings. Take care.

Great video. I've had a Valve Index for the last couple of years. My main complaints are: 1. The vast majority of games are not that good. Even the ones that get high ratings are almost always meh, especially compared to traditional flat screen games. So once I got past the initial phase of the VR experience being novel and amazing, I started shifting back to flat screen gaming, since the games there are just way better. In fact, one of the only games I still play in VR is Beat Saber, which is arguably more of a workout app than a game (but Beat Saber is awesome). On that note, to be fair, there are also some other good workout options in VR. 2. The Valve Index in particular is not that good for watching TV / movies. The number one reason for this is the glare. The Index has an absolutely terrible glare problem, where as soon as the scene you're looking at is even slightly dark, tons of glare becomes apparent, which is very distracting and causes a huge loss of image contrast. I quickly just went back to watching media on a regular TV (or even my phone), primarily because of the glare problem. But from what I gather, this problem does not exist (or at least is far less apparent) with the Quest. So the Quest might be a really great option for watching TV / movies in particular, especially while travelling. Ultimately, my experience with VR has been that it plateaued a few years ago and will not get significantly better in the foreseeable future. And the state that it's in now is quite meh once you get past the initial novelty.

You can find plenty of games that you can play for hours a day. There's several pvp games (and only a couple are good), amazing visual novels, and table top games like demeo. There's also quite a few single player vr games (half life alyx), flat screen games with vr support (no man sky), vr ports (skyrim vr), and mods (UEVR/cyber punk 2077 vr mod).

OMG, Matteo! I love my Quest 3 but after this video I’m really confused! Lol. I understand you were giving all the facts and making sure viewers have all the info they need to make a good decision. But for me I just realized all the options and other reasons for different headsets and so now I’m dazed and confused, so thanks! Just kidding, very thorough review and I hope it does help nubies and those considering VR the best way to go….i just don’t need the anxiety!!! 😂

Is it possible for the VR mod community to port over and optimize that incredible Shark Encounter from PSVR1 Worlds 'Ocean Descent', and Astro Bot: Rescue Mission for Quest 3 + PC?
@muppetonmeds4 ай бұрын
I've looked everywhere, and it's not possible yet but I'm sure someone shall figure it out. TC
@NintenPizza4 ай бұрын
@@muppetonmeds Ya, hopefully it happens. It would be such a shame for both titles to be left for dead on PSVR1. Since the resolution is just too low, the screen door effect is awful and the entire set up is just an octopus of cables and adapters. You'd think these two games would of been ported over and optimized RIGHT at launch for PSVR2. Huge missed opportunity. Ocean Descent should of been a free pack-in, with 2000x2040 per eye, 110d FOV, with deeper OLED blacks(PSVR1's are surprisingly lighter, even though it's an OLED display), head haptics, improved visuals, and maybe 70fps instead of 60fps if possible.

Really nice overview. For PCVR only I still recommend the quest 2 (Assuming the pc or steam updates don't break it in the future). But yeah for gaming probably stick to the quest 3.

Yea I would consider another 100$ on top for some accessories like a nice head strap (like the ones your sponsor Kiwidesign makes) it improves the experience a lot. Apart from that the Q3 is amazing and I have a PS5 as well. It’s just a very different type of gaming.

I love my Quest 3 but I have been somewhat tempted to get a Pimax Crystal for higher quality visuals. On the other hand, my Quest 3 is doing a great job so I'm hesitant to spend the extra money for a headset that might not be that much better. I do play Quest games, so the Crystal won't ever replace it but it MIGHT be a nice addition.

I’m going to have to strongly disagree with the 30 minute to an hour. If that was the case, people wouldn’t be buying head straps with batteries you can get that amount of playtime from the battery that comes with the Quest 3. I’m usually in for an hour and a half to three hours. I don’t find first person shooters to be all that physical either it’s point and shoot.

@Matteo311 feels like you skipped out on the elephants in the room on why some are hung up about purchasing: Apple Vision Pro offers a better processor, eye tracking, higher resolution & better display tech, better pass-through. What will be the Meta response to this? Meta have already proven eye tracking & updates to pass-through while maintaining higher FOV so together we could have a strong competitor to the high-end available around the corner. All that's needed is a conversation with Qualcomm and display manufacturers like LG. With the release of Snapdragon X Elite it appears as though there's likelihood for a better processor on the immediate horizon, but Meta are very quite (likely so as not to cannibalise Quest 3 sales). I guess we'll wait and see.
@darrcook14 ай бұрын
It may sound like a Quest 3 promotional video. Well, technically, it is. However, that's because the Quest 3 really is the best value there is. Resolution is better than the Index. FOV is not horribly narrower. Unlike the Index, the Quest 3 is constantly updated. The Quest 3 is a whole environment when you use it. I mothballed my Index after picking up a Quest 3. It's just better. While lighthouse tracking is better in theory, the Quest 3 tracking has not let me down. I had more problems with IR reflections off patio doors with Index than I have with the Quest. It's possible to be conflicted by hating Zuckerberg and Facebook yet still love the Quest 3. I'm glad such deep pockets are behind the Quest 3 and he is so jazzed about VR.

I have an HP Reverb G2, headset experience has been great, so clear, same off-ear headphones as the Index, though the controllers are average. But thanks to Microsoft, this perfectly capable headset will become a paperweight soon, the newest Window update is straight up removing the WMR app that connects the hardware to the experiences. It’ll straight up just stop working with no effort to even leave something like an open source driver for the community to keep these headsets from becoming unnecessary E-waste. Gutted. Looking forward to whatever Valve may be cooking up. Quest 3 looks cool!

@lsauperl the vr industry desperately needs a growing user base. The most important factor to buyers is the price. High end doesn't sell. This is why consoles are normally sold at a loss.

@@Gamingwithmatteo311 I agree, that's the main reason why I haven't yet bought any of the Quest devices, I have experienced the first one (Rift or something) and Meta Quest 2, but right now the only reason why I don't already have MQ3 is because of price.
