This may be basic, but a good driver will take it anywhere many more expensive models can go. I don't believe that there's as much difference in performance between the big-money models and the more simple ones as we might think. What we often observe is that the best drivers often drive the best (most expensive) models. For more information on this theory, please observe Formula One...
@the_letti05842 жыл бұрын
Its not about the price but about some technical stuff… portal axles give you better clearance, lower center of gravity gives you better sidehilling angles without flipping over… Some more expensive trucks do perform better but a scx10 II deadbolt wont flip over as easy as an scx10 III Wrangler… same goes for real sport cars, a 120k porsche does perform way better at turns than a 10 million bugatti. The bugatti is faster and has better acceleration but their capabilities dont relie on the price but on the porsche‘s aerodynamics and the bugattis motor

I fully agree, the only thing your paying for over the basic entry Axial sx10ii or traxxas trx4 is licenced body, locking diffs, two speed trans, and rear or front wheel gear overdrive. I do see a benefit for locking diffs and front to rear drive gear overdrive as it's a 4x4 truck thing. However the two speed trany is waste for me. They are trying to appeal to both scale truck fans and basher crowd. I honestly don't see any real benefit or value in a crawler being able to cruse over 15 or 20 miles per hour. With a proper esu, pinion and spur gear combined with brushless motor you can have great crawling speed modulation and speed approaching 10 to 12 miles and hour without duel tranny. Regardless if I am going to spend 800 to 1000 Canadian on a rtr crawler I rather get a crawler kit from Vanquish or Rc4wd and build something to my liking with my electronics and something that is unique and different, not cookie cutter.

I agree with so many in saying the scx10ii is a great platform, great review by the way Matt . There are so many after market flat chassis’s , parts , wheels , tires, upgrades, bodies , cages . I say let the scx10ii have its glory for a little while longer and who knows maybe the next one will be the wraith with the base camp inerds under it , these big companies think when making these decisions to release something that ok I’ve got a whole container of plastic axles and dog bones , links and anything extra they can throw at it. It sometimes makes a lot of sense for the company not for the consumer wanting the latest and greatest.

Like many have said this was not what I was expecting, but I am glad to see the SCX10.2 platform sticking around. That being said I also have 2 scx10.2 XJ one kit and one rtr these have by far been the most capable SCX platform I have used. These for the price and performance have far beat my SCX10's and also my SCX10.3 Wrangler. I do love the Wrangler 10.3 but the initial price is a bit steep when you can get a good 10.2 and put $200 into upgrades and making your own. Now I would like to try a SCX10.3 Basecamp for comparison, but I think I will still prefer the SCX10.2 platforms. Their simplicity and price point just make them better in my opinion and much better aftermarket support.

When I saw a blurb about a new Deadbolt this morning, I was a bit excited; it's something I'd consider starting my kids off on. That said, between the price and the sheer amount of plastic on it, it's hard to call it a good deal for me. $50 more gets you metal links and a more modern platform in the Base Camp, which considering the time and money involved in upgrading probably makes it worth it unless you really, really want a straight axle rig.

For the money I would still buy a RedCat Gen 8ii. My Gen8ii, I added the factory light kit, replaced the stock esu and motor. Replaced it with a Hobbywong 1080 and Holmes Hobby Crawlmaster 13t brushed can on day of purchase. All under 550 Canadian. The crawling performance and speed modulation is fantastic, running it on 3s lipos. Axial, Traxxas, and Team Associates entry rtr crawlers are way overpriced with what you get. Especially when Redcat and other Chinese brands are making good performance 1 10th scale crawlers for 75 to 120 US cheaper then the major brand offerings. These brands really need drop the pricing on there basic entry RTRs, especially when you can buy Axials and Traxxas for 100 to 150 off during Christmas sales or manufacture rebate flash sales throughout the year. Proving that are overpricing them deliberately from the get go.

@@scalebuildersguild I am not trying to convince anyone that redcat is better. It's definitely not without its faults and lack of features. A bit less refind in crawling performance compared to other entry 1 10th crawlers. Just pointing out that for the price it comes in at, it has a beautiful licenced body and tires, inner fender wells. You get alot more visual complete scale truck then a entry axial or traxxas tr4. Yes they might perform better but leave alot lacking in bang for buck in my opinion. I have been playing with getting a 1/10 Deadbolt after having built up an SCX24 Deadbolt. It would still be fun to have, but (insert my Axial RTR rant), a kit is the only way I could be pulled into this, as Matt inferred it's a basic RC and my flavor has matured to something more advanced. Still would be a fun build to learn with for sure.
@GrimJerr2 жыл бұрын
Would it be rude of me to mention the VS4-10 new release is only about $ 70.00 more, and a budget combo or a Fusion would be well worth the extra money. Granted a Servo and RX/TX is also needed so not really an apples to apples comparison, but a much better investment in the long run. Also gets you past the RTR learning curve that might leave a burning feeling. ✌

Doing the price to $250US honestly would have been the best okay here. Start with an SCX24, nice to the deadbolt, then move to the 10.3. it would have created an in-brand hobby path. At this price, though, it completes with their top-of-stack 1:10 product.

The axial site specifically says under key features "Universal joint axles allowing up to 45° of steering". I wonder if you got a pre-production one without, or they have bad info on the site. Either way the Basecamp is a far better value for the $50 increase. The body is probably all that's keeping it from being under $300.
@brianellison35252 жыл бұрын
But the Basecamp is a 10-3. Matt was being nice when he mentioned the 10-3, but they suck bad. Axial is going to have to back pedal a bit if they want to hang on to the top spot in crawling. No one is going to base a million dollar industry around the 10-3. There is already a multi company support system in place, and the 10-2 has been proven to be the baseline the most competitive stuff is built from. In 21 they about gave up to Associated with the Ecto. I like to win comps. I don't like flipping my incapable truck back onto its wheels. So my class 2 and my class 3 are 10-2 based. And will continue to be. Be well, and have fun.

@@brianellison3525 to be honest, I'm not in the market for either, just looking at the sum of the parts. Basecamp: Portal axles (maybe good, maybe not), metal links, all metal trans gears, metal shocks. Deadbolt: none of that. Matt said his had 1 metal steering link, but the stock photos on their site don't show that. Stock photos also show the dogbone shafts that contradict the line I quoted before. I presume they wanted to hit a number that was lower than all the other entry level crawlers. They did that, and with an arguably better looking body than the Basecamp. They'll likely sell tons of upgrade parts as well since they don't come with any of them stock. In that regard it's genius.

(For example: I just bought some metal beadlocks WITH really sticky tires for only $39 plus tax for the set of four, on Amazon. Amazed to see that Axial thinks plastic links are acceptable in 2022. Even at that price point. Edit: Just saw they went back to dogbones too, amazing.

This vehicle is big fun . Mods are cheap and easy to do with big results . I had to get a C10 and I'll probably get a jeep .

I’m really happy to see axial keeping the SCX10 II current. In my opinion, the SCX10 II is still superior to the SCX10 III, so I’m hopeful that this is a sign that the SCX10 II is here to stay.
@peteragnello32682 жыл бұрын
YOU SEEM TO HAVE EXPERIENCE SO, WHY DO YOU FEEL THAT THE SCX10ii IS SUPERIOR? I ONLY JUST GOT AN AXIAL SCX10ii AND ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS $200 ON THE SPRING SALE. SO FAR I LIKE IT. JUST STARTED MODS.
@visionary_rc79872 жыл бұрын
Well, I must start by saying that this is my opinion, and people have different opinions. In my opinion, the SCX10 III is a better driving truck out of the box, but with similar upgrades, the 10 II will outperform the 10 III. I think that the 3 gear is a better transmission than the 10 III trans and the 5 gear in the base camp because it puts the motor lower, has bigger bearings, and is has far more upgrades available. I’m more of a straight axle fan, but I will say that I do like the AR45 straight axles more than the AR44, the offset pumpkin is very nice. But in my opinion, the SCX10 II is a overall better truck because 1: it’s less complicated and a lot lighter, 2: I think the trans is better, 3: there’s a lot more aftermarket support, and 4: in my experience a SCX10 II with a few upgrades will outperform a SCX10 III with similar upgrades. All a 10 II really needs is shocks, links (if they are plastic, if the are metal, no real need), and wheels/tires. Shocks make an enormous difference on a 10 II. Plus, I just like the “feel” of a SCX10 II.

Cool the SCX10-2 is still very much alive. 👍🏼👍🏼
@falkenphil5572 жыл бұрын
Although I would have loved to see universal shafts, I am ok with the plastic links. Mainly because it seems like everyone always replaces their links weather they came with metal or plastic. Kinda like how people ask for upgrade shocks on element and trx4 rigs even tho the stock shocks are some of the best.

I think the scx10ii is still popular and relevant because it has straight axles instead of portals.

Which would you go for first the base camp or the deadbolt

Man, so many options…. I was comparing (somewhat since I know they are very different) the Basecamp and Vanquish Phoenix kit, but now there is this? I don’t have the experience in crawling rigs to figure this out….
@scalebuildersguild2 жыл бұрын
It's no secret that the Phoenix is my favourite... so I would choose the Phoenix Straight followed by the Basecamp. Thanks for watching!

299$ would work The Deadbolt is really cool there’s some killer builds out there for shore.. I can’t wait to see what axial dose for a kit Version soon .. like the UMG 10II or the Jeep xj .. Kit Version 6x6 would be a where the money 💰 is UMG 🤛.
@thefisherman11272 жыл бұрын
To be brutally honest, I will go and pick up the Redcat Gen8 Scout every day over this truck, the low price, scale details, licensed body, clipless body, fully tubbed, true beadlocks, portal axles, etc. make it much more worth the money spent 🤷♂️

It seems crazy to me to improve the line to .3 and build on .2. If people are excited about brand new .2 then there is no wonder .3 support is weak. I should build parts for .1 and really blow guys away.
