I commented on this on one of your videos last June or July. The supply chain issue, short supply, and high demand in 2021-2022, led to over-ordering and over-production for 2023-2024. There are no supply chain issues, everyone is getting their orders, and now companies like Spyder, Trew, Flylow, Helly Hansen, North Face have too much ski wear, and other companies like Nordica, Rossignol, Atomic, Soloman, Burton etc. have too much gear. The new stuff is flooding in and the old stuff hasn't cleared out AND everybody bought a ton of gear in 2021-2022-early 2023 and kind of have newish gear already and don't really *need* more new gear. But, I also thought it would clear by a couple of weeks after Labor Day, so it's even worse that I said in early summer. My 0.02

Option 1. Buy skis in season for $750 buy bindings for $250 and maybe the shop will mount the bindings for free. With tax your at $1,100 for a pair of skis. Option 2. Buy last years skis out of season for $400. Go to Corbett's for cheap bindings at $150. Mount them yourself with paper template and your at $550 (half price). If you look at skis like different flavors of fun like I do, option #2 is a necessity. You should have a firm snow ski and a soft snow ski at a minimum. And then other skis to specialize in whatever special disciplines you enjoy such as park, trees or deep powder. If a closet full of skis is too impractical for you select an all mountain ski in the mid 80's underfoot for the East and mid 90's for the West and if you have really high snow like Utah go ~105mm for a daily. One final consideration is that skis can look fine but be worn out on the inside. The wood structure does break down over time and the skis lose their rebound energy. You may not notice until you jump on a new pair and then back to the old. A heavy skier, charging hard can wear out a ski in 50 uses. More typical to get around a 100 uses. So don't let yourself be held back by some old skis. Buy them cheap and buy them often! Have fun!

2 skis if you can make the cost work. Skis also don't often change from year to year except for the graphics. So getting last years skis are often the same as the new skis for way less money.

I would take two pair of last year's especially when frequently the only change from year to year is a different top sheet!

Hi Ricky may i give you an advice ? When you are coming to Europe, Go to Val die Fassa in the southern Alps in Italy. They have the best carving groomers, the best weather and tbe best Snow in Europe. If you like i can give you more Tips for Dolomiti Superski 😍. After a close to 2 decade hiatus (only snow I've seen was in Texas 3 years ago) getting back into skiing and the ski sizes are mind boggling... I was an avid skier when freeriding kicked off and at the time the top pros were using 70mm all mountains (Salomon X-Scream Series) and 90mm powders (Rossi Bandit XXX). There were specialized powder skis for places like Alaska (AK Rocket comes to mind) at 116mm, but it was unusual to be recommended anything wider than 90mm. The last set of skis I owned were Volkl Vertigo G3. These were 70mm underfoot. Is there a good starting point you would recommend?

You should check out salomon's Stance skis if you haven't already. A bit wider than the volkls but they are pretty cheap and ok at hitting different types of terrain and snow

I was at Zermatt and Verbier a couple of seasons ago and almost everyone was on cheap narrow skis and stayed exclusively on piste. It's a very different culture over there. The "rental boots and lunch reservations" crowd. Taking fat skis off piste was viewed as slightly insane. I got a lot of stares. It's amazing that Europe has any freeskiers at all because that culture doesn't really exist there.

The big difference is that they have a lot of crevasses over there, so quite a bit more dangerous to venture off piste.

Thanks for your continued breakdowns of the CARV product. I was on the waiting list last yr for it when I then needed to buy a car so there went that idea. But that was before I discovered your channel. Your mocking of being called a Carving Commander pretty much killed CARV for me. Aside the fact that I find the app-software pricing WAY too expensive. $199 for a full season, and price likely increasing next season-no thanks! May as well buy new equipment. I listen to my mp3 while skiing solo, at times I take 1 earbud out to lift chat etc, but the idea of having a nag-hag in my ear while skiing-yukky!

Salomon qst 98 - thoughts on getting this if you live in somewhere were there is no snow by car so you have to travel by plane ervey time and thus can only really take 1 set of skis with you on the plane?

I think that's a great option honestly, it's not the most precise ski, but at $390 it's a great value. I like the idea of CARV and I can see how it saves money over private lessons... but I think it over inflates how many adults get lessons.

Pretty much everyone should own something sub 90 and 100+ for obvious reasons ... daily groomers and snow days. Depending on your area, true powder skis might not be worth it (few storms, tracked out in a few hours). 100% buy two leftovers than one 2025 ski... they don't really change much, often just the graphic.

That ski is kinda expensive. How does it compare to the old Enforcer 100 or Mantra??

@@res_ipsa-REX The old Enforcer 100 was very long in the tooth and doesn't get much love around here. It was very damp and lifeless IMO. As it happens I also hated last years Mantra, it rode like a 2x4. Worst ski for me out of 12 I demoed that day. But that's just me, many liked them. The new versions of both skis have been improved. Enforcer is livelier, Mantra is more user friendly. All that said, I'd take the Justis or Serpo over either because both skis are very reactive and energetic which I love in a ski. You just have to find them on sale off season unfortunately.

The Justis is not changed since 2021. I recently bought the 2021 Version for 300 on ebay with Marker F12 Binding in 189cm. Im Skiing in tbe Alps/Europe

Congrats on over 5000 subscribers!!! Great video. I agree with your opinion that getting that "one ski quiver" width ends up being not ideal for either groomers or deeper powder. Just buy two cheaper skis (used demo if you have to) or buy the daily driver now and save up for the POW ski. As for Carv, I partially agree with you that they should offer the raw data for free (or at least less than $50 for the season) and only charge (or charge much more) for intrepretation of the data and live instruction. They were smart this year to offer the hardware for free and then the subscription for $199 (and a 10 day subscription for $119). Buying hardware and a subscription is a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people. In future years, I hope they decide to offer a raw data only option for $20-$30 (or free). That would keep some previous purchasers using the product rather than putting it in their junk drawer in their garage. Some money is better than no money, right?
