I only use a laptop so is it worth attempting to calibrate it, or should I really get a better monitor and calibrate that? I do print my photos on a Pixma G650.

It is usually recommended to use an IPS panel display as they have better color accuracy. Most laptops use TN. It never hurts to calibrate, no matter the monitor. It will always get more accurate. I literally calibrated two different monitors (brand, model, build date) and one is just slightly darker than the other one (it is very old). But the colors are just about the same when I move the image from one screen to another. I still have to try and print though.

@@RedmilesShark Thanks for the response. I have calibrated my laptop monitor and another old monitor, and lo and behold any images looks the same on either screen. I also got some ICC profiles and the prints look almost(99%) exactly as they do on the screen now. 🙂

@@marktaylor9579 Awesome. The fact that colours line up across all screens also makes general use of the computer a lot more enjoyable. :P My old screen is just too dark, it simply cannot pull off enough brightness, even at 100%... Got to switch that one for something else I have downstairs. This one is about twelve years old anyway. I don't do professional editing personally. But calibrating is still recommended for anyone that does edit. It is also highly recommended to calibrate often. Colors can shift on monitors. Although CRT's are more susceptible.

Printing in house with your monitor and printer both calibrated is one thing. Color calibrating your monitor and then getting prints made outside can vary wildly in what you get back.

Mainly because there's different color tones of 'white' paper. You basically need to calibrate for the kind of paper you plan to print onto.

used to be able to get a thing called a spider (I think). This looks like an update of that! Helpful to know!

Do not leave your calibration 'as-is' even if you do not change monitor settings. Panels, although very slightly, degrade over time. Causing them to shift. Not doing it every four weeks is fine if you want. But it's not a set and forget device with your screens. It's recommended to recalibrate your monitor(s) again every once in a while.
