I wasn't sure about prybars, so I bought a cheap one on Amazon and carried it for a while to see if it was worth spending more money on a nicer one. I carried it every day for about a year. I did use it from time to time, but honestly it was probably less than once a month, and it was invariably for a task I probably could have used a knife, a key, or a coin for. It was certainly nicer to be able to use a prybar under those circumstances, but not enough to warrant the pocket space. I really liked the idea of carrying one, but it just didn't turn out to be as useful to me as I had hoped. I stopped carrying it a few years ago, and I haven't missed it whatsoever. I have been interested in EDC for many years now, and something that I have noticed is that when people post photos of their fancy titanium prybars, they always seem to be immaculate, as though they were barely used. That goes for the ones in this video too. Maybe they were all just brand new I guess. I will say though that I have seen someone using one regularly in everyday life. When I bought mine on Amazon, I actually bought a three pack. I gave one of them to a female friend who has long nails. She keeps it on her keychain, and uses it quite often to open soda cans and stuff.

I don’t see why more knives and not just for a novelty or on cheap knives but why don’t more knives have a sort of small prybar thing coming out the back? If the knife was just a tiny bit thicker, meaning that one of the liners was actually a thicker gauge of titanium That ran the whole length of the knife. It could have the strength and the leverage and the tip could stick out the opposite side to the pivot obviously and could stick out maybe half an inch. I do believe I’ve seen that on a few knives, but doesn’t usually seem to be, a more prominent feature.

I think that would be a great idea. I've seen a few but they're rare. It makes a lot of sense. My guess is if there's any Flex in the bar/spine of the knife over time it might make the scales become loose. Just a guess though. I could see a market for this type of knife
@Strangerer69
@Strangerer69 8 күн бұрын
@@StarDarkAshes I agree it would be a great idea, might make one side of the handle thicker than the other, but a chisel/pry bar/glass breaker on the back end of the knife would be an excellent idea.

just to add, if you are not sure that if you are going to use the pry bar just go the hardware store and buy a combination wrench cut the open part, file down the cutted part at an angle about 45 (just like the small one in this video) and file the sides a bit (just like the one with the pocket clip in the video) so now you have a pry bar and a wrench for a couple dollars, there are tutorials on how to do it i've made one with a 12mm wrench, scraping stickers, opened a couple times those annoying plastic packages (i've made mine a bit sharp :D) and one with a 10mm wrench nice to change batteries on a car and stuff like that, since 10mm it's so common instead of buying one, make one for a couple dollars and see how much you use it, then if you feel the need buy a nice one :D

The "e-one" by Ant Design is a pretty awesome pry bar, got one for like 35 quid in their sale recently. However my main prybar is the Vero mini fulcrum as it houses 2 bits and is slimmer (and much sexier) than the Ant. They are one of those things that comes in handy once in a while but when they do, you are so glad you have it. And they vanish in the pocket so it's no problem at all to carry them. I remember using one to break some ice in my freezer lol.

Last things first, I'm glad I wasn't the only one puzzled about the practicality of a pry bar. Now that you showed me the bottle opening trick, I'll be jumping on the Interwebs to order one. Pro Tip: Those plastic binding straps that annoy everyone...if you find the joint where the ends are melted together, turn it over and pull on the 'inner' end and the joint will separate quite easily. I have no idea why this works, but it does. More out-takes please. 🤣🤣🤣 Happy New Everybody.

I like having a small pribar on me but the problem is they all have holes in spots that make them weaker so if you were needing to use some of them harder then light/medium duty I’d imagine they would break if I was a cold steel guy I’d say get anything with a triad lock and your done but they have there place I don’t want to carry a Swiss Army knife or a leatherman as a knife does everything I normally need so it’s a less is more for me

I think a dedicated pocket prybar is by far the worst snake oil of the edc world, for a variety of reasons. 1 - Most of these prybars are closing in on 100 dollars after shipping / tax. At that price, it is no longer a sacrificial piece, its something you want to look after. The cheapest one at your sponsor is ending up costing between 54 and 77 dollars by the time its actually delivered to my house, depending on shipping method, transporter used, incoterms and paperwork which they by the way, do not disclose as far as I could find. 2 - Pocket prybars made from low grade titanium makes no sense whatsoever, because a good tool steel outperforms cheap titanium at a third of the price in this application. Maybe except weight, but for an item this size in your pocket thats not even going to be noticable imo. The ones at your sponsor claims "100% grade 5 titanium", which sounds good until you look it up and realize that grade 5 is an alloy so its not "100% titanium" at all, and that theres about 50 different grades of it. A prybar this size made from an actual high end titanium could easily cost between 500 and 1000 bucks if not ordered in bulk. 3 - Most pocket prybars are between 5 and 10 cm. What could you possibly hope to achieve with less than 10 cm of leverage that another non-dedicated item doesnt do equally well? 4 - If you are into edc gear to the point of considering a pocket prybar, most people already have a multitool, knife or similar that can pry equally well if not better, ref point 3. 5 - Every single video on KZbin that hypes up edc prybars, are sponsored by a company that makes and/or sells them. 6 - For some reason, a "dedicated" prybar always needs to have other functions like a bottle opener or bit driver, which mechanically weakens the structure and voids the point of a dedicated tool. By all means, if someone likes these and wants to carry them I dont mind that at all and have nothing bad to say of anyone wanting to. But im getting a little bit sick of being told that this is an item I NEED to have, because realistically there is absolutely nothing these do that a multitool screwdriver/awl/knife wont do better. Even knife-less multitools are more useful imo. And if you need to do something where for instance the flathead driver on a swiss army knife isnt enough, you certainly dont have the leverage with one of these either and its time to go get a real tool from the toolbox. And yes I have owned and tried several of these, I dont know if the titanium is mixed with parmesan or something, but they break. If you really need something to pry with, you can get a high quality, actually made from tool steel, demolition screwdriver from a reputable brand for like 20 bucks. No, it wont fit in a front pocket, but it actually works and having one in your toolbox/backpack/car will compliment any edc kit far better than one of these things will.

Watched the vid, it was interesting, but I'm not convinced to carry a prybar. I usually carry a multiplier on my belt; that serves perfectly well. If I was forced to spend time in a restrictive environment where the Karens wouldn't allow my multiplier, I'd switch to a Crescent (American brand) adjustable wrench or Knipex-style adjustable pliers, or both. Sometimes I carry the Knipex in addition to the multiplier anyway. Pliers, even little ones, are useful daily.

Pry bars are useless until you need them 🤣 Pry bars are ESSENTIAL in my EDC. I have weak nails; so weak that they would break just opening a can of soda. I need a pry bar for that. Also theres so many other situations where if you could just wedge something in between a small space you can open that thing, remove that thing, stop that thing from rattling, etc.
