I moved schools in the 20-21 school year and I am so happy I did! I feel way more connected to my students at this school because of the school culture.

Amanda, this is a great topic for right now! I am currently in a wonderfully supportive environment at my school, but I stepped down from being an instructional coach in 2018 because of a culture clash. The administration makes all the difference in the direction of a school and the way staff & students treat each other. In the current teacher shortage, no educator needs to stay in a position where they don't feel they fit or where they're undervalued. There are so many jobs open across the country. Best wishes for a continually good year. ❤️

Thank you for this video Amanda! I am currently in school to become a teacher...my excitement has been draining because lately all I have been seen are "Why I quit teaching videos" and I am getting scared! but your video made me realize that I do want to be a teacher...I just need to find the perfect school - which might take a while but I do not want to quit my dream.

Hey Amanda! I really liked your video. I just started a new job in the middle of the year at a school and I’m feeling this exact way. Everything you listed is how I feel too. I’m emotionally and physically exhausted (and upset because I just started this job). I’m roughing it out until June, where I’ll move on. I’m excited for new things - and sometimes moving on and changing things around is a good thing!

Hey Amanda. I just left my school after last year and I love being at my new school. I had to consider some of those similar things that you mentioned and with everything going on right now, I know a lot of teachers have been considering leaving their schools or the profession altogher. This video was very timely and needed. Glad you are enjoying your new school!

I am considering moving from high school to elementary, primarily because of the student load and, therefore, the work load. I WANT to do all the things-parent contact, grading, planning, etc.-but with 150-175 students, it’s just too much. I have given myself to this job so much that I’m physically and emotionally drained. As a new mom, I want to be able to give myself to my own child. As it is, I’ve barely got anything in the tank for my baby when I get home in the evenings. I’m praying a student load of 20-30 eases the burden some.

Ahhh Emily, that's interested. Going from high school to elementary is such a big jump but I can definitely understand why you would want to do that. I too am concerned for when I have children, and how I will be able to balance being a mom and teacher. Would you be responsible for making multiple subject lessons in a day? I wonder how time consuming that would be to grade multiple subject assignments, even if its for 30 students. I am wishing you the best in this decision making process. Ultimately we want to do what's best for ourselves and our families. When you are happy, that's when you'll be the best teacher you can be.

@@amandaros3 luckily, in the district I currently work for, grade level teams split the responsibility of planning for all the different subjects. The grading for all the different subjects is something I still have to consider. Best of luck to you!

I’ve been at my school for 9 years and I have a supportive admin. I love my colleagues but I want more. I’m very much involved in many teams in my school but I feel like I’m not growing. I don’t agree with the curriculum we use and I know the kids deserve more than what my school offers.

Hi Amanda , I’m in school for teaching and I’m having anxiety because I can be introverted and shy sometimes and I have a perception that teachers have to be extroverted and engaging all the time . Hopefully you can give me some of your insight ? ❤️
@amandaros32 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie! So many teachers I know are introverts, including myself. Usually we tent to be quiet and reserved around people we do not know but being introverted doesn't mean that we aren't strong and confident in the classroom. Once you've been in the classroom for a full week or so a lot of those nerves will go away and you will look forward to your classes and teaching your students. My advice would be to practice your confidence and figure out the type of teacher you want to be in the classroom and then walk in that. If you are who you are and full of confidence, being introverted won't matter.

I hear you, and can relate. I have been a teacher 6 years now and have always clammed up in front of fellow teachers. However, when you get in front of kids, it is really easy in comparison. Students don't have the same type of expectations, realizations, and judgements. Therefore the anxiety that accompanies is almost nonexistent! I still get nervous with my observations but that doesn't happen very often. You do not have to be very extroverted in order to be successful.

Hi Rose! Thank you for sharing your experiences. Right now I’m debating on majoring in adolescent education but I keep going back and forth because I’m scared I’ll make the wrong choice by becoming a teacher. Everyone keeps asking if I’m sure I want to be a teacher because they are underpaid and over worked. Any advice? I’m located in NY as well
@amandaros32 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebeca, teacher pay definitely differs based on city and state. If you work in NY, from what I know teacher pay is quite good. The work load IS a lot and will require a lot of personal time. If teaching is definitely what you're passionate about, I say do it just be sure to check and see the pay offered in your district/city.

@amandaros32 жыл бұрын
HI Fabiola, Congratulations on almost finishing schools. I think because you are young, you can switch careers and it won't affect you as much as someone who is 10 years in and confused lol. I definitely think you should still become a teacher because You have to experience it for yourself and see if it's a career and environment you can dedicate your life to. We also need teachers with fresh vision and passion to join the profession. Just be sure to apply to schools that have good reputations in your neighborhood, and really be observant with leadership and the way the school is ran.
