Clean it every time, I use two felt discs, one oiled, second one dry every time I use it. Barrel is 1974, four years ago it shot a British record that still stands to the best of my knowledge. Never use bronze on it. They used to say it doesn’t matter whether you clean it or not, just do the same thing EVERY time you shoot. Works for me.

Wow. Just when I thought I knew it all. What a great video. I have always wanted a better way to compare groups. Clear plastic sheets. Thank you for that and confirming what I always thought. Great information done in a professional way. Still not sure I would clean the groove but a dry bore snake all day. Maybe compare that and save me some money on ammo. 😆

That was awesome. We have competitors at our club with 60 years experience. Most of them go out of their mind if they have to clean their gun and believe it takes many, many rounds to re-season it. Myself, I have always been a clean it every time guy. I think my method works for me. I probably should gather the data.

It depends on the firearm, I have a 1960 Anshutz single shot, I clean it maybe every 6 months to a year. When I shot large bore competition with a HK .308 with a polygon barrel I needed 40-50 rounds before it shot tight groups. I quit cleaning it weeks before a competition and I always scored good. Clean it and it would look like a shotgun for a while.

How many rounds does it take to qualify as "dirty"?

As an m14 service rifle competitor it was standard practice with all service teams to maintain zero on a clean barrel...between 300 yard and final 600 yard stages we would dry brush the bore with a couple strokes....after the match we would clean the barrel with hoppes and leave a very thin film of red transmition fluid in the bore prior to removal on the day of the next firing..zeros at 200 30 and 600 yards were confirmed with 2 sighting shots or depending on the match no sighting shots in which case zeros were slightly adjusted for weather conditions that day..

I reckon I depends on the barrel and ammunition. No two chambers are the same. If your chamber is such thats it's throat matches your cartridge when it's clean, a clean barrel may shoot best. If your chamber throat is a little long by way of tolerance variation, a "fouled" barrel my shoot better. But sooner or later all barrels will need cleaning for function and accuracy

If you use dirty ammo, clean your barrel after each outing. Period. I find 22LR by Remington, Sellier & Bellot, RWS, and SK are dirty, especially Remington. Federal and CCI rimfire tend to be much cleaner.

I have to ask the question.As the .22lr is so quiet in an outside range situation, why are you bothering with suppressors?
@docsean3363
@docsean3363 Жыл бұрын
It’s so quiet with a suppressor. when the bullet hits the dirt it is louder than the round going off.

So all you did for "cleaning" is pull a bore snake through a couple times for cleaning?
@docsean3363
@docsean3363 2 жыл бұрын
For the purposes of this test it was just the snake. Of course removing the bolt ,chamber, and barrel cleaning is periodically needed. After reviewing the results, I always do a quick clean followed by a few followers before competition. The methods for cleaning are up for debate. Do you have a preferred approach?

@Doc Sean i have always run a soaked brush through and let that sit a few minutes. Then soaked brush one more time then run patches through until they come out clean. I wasn't knocking your method, I was suprised just a snake made that much difference. Thanks

I would bet it was a dirty suppressor and I wouldn't shoot a suppressed rifle in a tournament like that all that grit come out of that suppressor down into the boat

I agree this snake thing scores the bore and redistributes the fouling. I have never cleaned a .22 bore. Only the chamber and bolt the odd time. While in high school I shot .22 at a indoor military base. There were about six converted.303 to .22 long rifle. Finally one day I asked a range officer who cleaned the guns. He said no one Why? It’s just soft waxed coated lead polishing the bore every time. I’m 73 of age and since that day I don’t clean my 22 LR.

@@gascheck8151 Polishing is done with a HARDER material. All you will get is shitload of lead fouling/builtup. Anschuetz does have a manual, so go read it and find recommended cleaning regimen.

Hey, Stop cleaning your rifle all the time, only clean once or twice a year and if it starts shooting way off. And start weighting your ammo, never shoot it straight out of the box. cheers mate
