Should You Date Your Jiu Jitsu Training Partners? | The Good and Bad on Jiu Jitsu Relationships

Im a little biased - I married my first jiu jitsu instructor hehe. There are absolutely really positive aspects to dating someone who does jiu jitsu, but there are 100% some things that you need to be cautious about - especially if you both train at the same school!

Started dating a training partner when we both had 2 stripes on a white belt! So fun and sadly I’ve gained a lot of respect from the guys for being with him by default. Less creepy comments and a boyfriend to practice on 😊😊

It's so nice having a partner to practice with whenever you want! Dating him back when I was a white belt was interesting because no one knew me for me, except that I was this big black belts girlfriend hahaha. Thankfully I've made my own way now and I'm sure you will too if you're not already :)

My husband is my favorite training partner! We didn't meet at BJJ, but it's now something we share and I love that. However, we do have to make an effort to work with other people to diversify our training. It would be so easy to only partner with each other forever, especially because were very close in height and weight.

Thankful that I met my boyfriend and was invited by him to train. I used to do Capoeira and dated within the group and…oof If I could go back and re do those relationships, i would not date those people. It messes with the group dynamic…especially since at the time there was only 2 capoeira groups and we had beef…

I try to avoid this. Jiujitsu helps me to balance my mind, so I don't want anything to potentially intrude on that mental solitude, like a breakup that makes me not want to go to the gym.

I wish I knew enough ladies in BJJ. I love the idea of finding a BJJ girl. Now with primarily training partners maybe not until a solid relationship is developed. There is like 3 women at my gym. So my thinking is I would think it would be best if you dated people at other gyms. If the relationship goes south you each still have their space.
