my favorite thing about ib is the community it creates. yes, you are going to have to deal with very smart people who believe they are better than you and are very competitive. but at the end of the day, we are all on the same boat and we are going to help each other out. you can do it by yourself, but having ib friends make it a thousand times easier. it takes a village lol

I'm a senior in IB and I can agree with everything you said. During my time, while of course it's been a bit tough academically, it's also been very motivating. All the people around me really work hard to do well and it's inspired me to do the same. You really get close to a lot of the people around you in the program, and I've made so many amazing friends I wouldn't have ever known otherwise. If you're considering doing IB and willing to put in the work, it's really worth it, and you don't have to be a genius to get through it. Also if you do IB, please whatever you do don't procrastinate on the IA and EE deadlines, or taking/studying for the SAT and college applications. Trust me, cramming it in to a single week isn't a great idea.

CON: Regular student: Get straight A's with the easy courses and light course load, win lots of school awards, and please your parents. IB student: Get no A's and instead get a range of B, C+, and C's with the difficult courses and heavy course load, not win any school awards with your low GPA, and incur the wrath of your parents with your bad school performance.

orrr pro: ib students have weighted gpas that allow them to have 4.0+ gpas and easy summa cum laude 😋
@bluemountain5553 ай бұрын
@@vickytoria. I guess it still depends on the school itself and its policies. In my school for the GPA calculation: A=4.0, B=3.0, C+=2.5, C=2.0 regardless of it's a regular or IB course and there's no difficulty adjustment factor. As such, a regular student with straight A's and a 4.0 GPA will always look better than an IB student with straight B's and a 3.0 GPA. The regular student will win lots of awards and can enter my local university while the IB student won't win anything and will likely get rejected from my local university because my local university had a minimal GPA of over 3.0.

ohh ok yeah diff schools def have diff weightings, it’s just that for most school they have lower grades in ib courses still correlate to higher gpa points

i’m in grade 10 pre-ib right now. how different would you say the ib program is compared to the pre-ib if you did it?
@vickytoria.Ай бұрын
ib has more exams and projects that will determine if you get the diploma, but all the stuff you learn is just a continuation of pre ib classes. i’d say you definitely get more busy just because the teachers have to cover more content per class. i hope this helps!
@emma-gt7jl4 күн бұрын
I entered DP1 this year, and it’s dependent on the person for difficulty. DP focuses more on content, memorization, and application of content for tests. However pre ib (myp) has lots of projects. So depending on which you prefer

This video was so helpful! I was just wondering as a rising sophomore would you recommend taking a couple of AP classes before starting the IB program junior year?
@vickytoria.5 ай бұрын
i would say it’s definitely good practice to do so, and even tho ap and ib are pretty different, ap can help you get used to more rigorous coursework!

IB current N24 Year 12 student here. Due to recent changes in IBAS to ATAR conversions, I'd say 2024 moving forward it is not a good decision. I feel like now its become extremely unfair that a 40IB is equivalent to a 96% when in 2020 these 40IB+ grades all received a 98% ATAR equivalent. Yes I have to admit there are many pros that you learn beyond school work like time management skills, discipline, determination and become bi or trilingual however I don't think its worth it anymore.

I’ve been wanting to attend IB, but ever since I started watching KZbin videos abt it, I’ve been getting so nervous! I feel like everyone hates it and wish they didn’t choose it, and now im really stressing about it tbh😭 what are y’all’s honest opinion, and also where (country) did you attend IB?
@vickytoria.4 ай бұрын
i’m in the US, and i don’t hate it at all! it’s just a lot of work but as someone who prefers to be busy it was perfect for me :) i’d say the people who hate it mostly say so because of the intense workload and summer work (the extended essay) but it’s honestly not as bad as some make it seem lol

you can email the counselors and they will definitely have info on it, or just ask your core class teachers about it :)

usually you can see any information on it on the school website (which in my opinion is a great resource for a lot of other stuff)

it’s less an exam and more a creative display; for example my test had like six rebuses to solve and you had to make a short story given a weird prompt like “wwyd if you turned into an insect tomorrow”
