I'm not a very good student to begin with so when I got into IB, it was *LITERAL HELL* Was stressed as hell due to escalating family problems, sleeping 4-5hours each day if not all nighting, health dropped like a rock and I became severely sick, got hospitalized for 2.5 weeks during the month when IA's had to be turned in and was _Royally Fucked_ It was only due to the kindness and efforts of my teachers, instructors friends that I even managed to my CAS, EE, IA's done. I will give the IB system one thing is that they gave me lenience and split my higher level and standard level subject exams in two (3 subjects in May and 3 in November) which did really help. Still though even with a redo and the lenience I only managed to just pass and my asian parents were not thrilled... :/ Horrible, traumatic experience but even so I made some great friends and I think I learned a LOT about the importance of mental/physical health.

@@blob_cancel_aftercast Like yi said, it wasn't a break in rules, mainly because the paper in may and nov weren't the same, so it's not like I could turn to my friends and ask them what was on the exam. It's been a while but basically anybody with severe enough medical reasons (ex. people with severe anxiety are allowed a stop mid-paper to take a supervised 1 hour break before going back to do the paper) can have special treatment in order to help to get to the same playing field as your average healthy student. For my case, past medical records as well as proof of my hospitalisation was more than enough for the IB to give the OK. Also process went by fast because all staff including the head invigilator knew and saw my deteriorating health first hand. Also my teachers were the real fucking MVP when they care. I got some major help from my teachers and extensions on IA's and EE in order to make up for the time I lost while in hospital. My wonderful english teacher was actually the one to help me leave the school grounds (i was struggling to walk without immense pain at this point) I was fortunate enough to have teachers that really do love their students and that's what inspired me to become a teacher myself. Pay it forward.

I'm in Grade 12 doing part IB, best decision ever. Personally, I don't think that going full IB is worth it, because it is so intense and when you get to your final year, the courses are equivalent to university courses. I didn't think it was worth the mental/emotional/physical health compromise. Plus, we couldn't chose our HL classes, HL had to be Chemistry, History and English (which I think are some of the heaviest workloads for IB -- at least at my school) and in comparison to AP and other advanced programs, students who graduate with IB, like you said, can only have a chance at getting 3 credits, where as almost all AP classes are credited. Considering the amount of time and effort that goes into the work required, I wouldn't say there's much of a benefit for doing diploma (recognition wise). It's a great program to challenge your learning and perspectives and it helps to develop your work ethic. But overall, the benefits, to me, aren't outstanding, Even if you're a diploma candidate. Especially if you're certificate. But if it works for you, I'd say go for it!

Chemistry HL is honestly quite easy if you were from a decent curriculum in grade 10. Honestly the first 3 topics were already taught to us in grade 10. And the entire grade 11 topics of Chemistry HL should have been easy if you concentrated well in classes frankly speaking. I'm saying this because the actual difficult courses like Maths AA HL demand a lot more rigour and hard work and the end grade that you get in this is mostly not a satisfactory one either. For me chemistry HL was that HL in which I worked less but got great grade.
@ashlynel133 жыл бұрын
@@achyuththouta6957 Ah lucky, we didn't have a very good teacher for chemistry, often times he wouldn't explain why or how things worked or provide enough examples. And when we asked him he would turn it to be our fault for not understanding the material. I had to work three times harder to understand basic concepts because of it. I was a top student and it was a shared feeling with other top students. You have to note that just because the curriculums for IB may be similar, teaching methods, resources available can make a significant difference. For us Chemistry was the HL that was quite difficult

I feel like it really all comes down to the teachers and coordinators that are running your ib school. The teachers at my school are amazing and they have a whole plan mapped out for you to complete cas, ee, ias etc and honestly the juniors and seniors at my school are pretty happy, although it is very hard. And I get the credits are annoying because you get a lot more when taking AP classes, but idk not every school only accepts HLs and I believe you learn the material a lot better since IB classes don’t just come down to one test. And as she said, you will improve your writing skills. I mean I don’t actually know IB classes I just love my school so much I felt the need to defend it lmao I’m a freshman. We literally have required therapy sessions with assigned teachers every two months to make sure we’re ok. And they make sure to plan a lot of fun stuff to keep us from going insane. They also have student development days which is like you are with this group of kids for four years and you meet every couple of months and discuss the schools issues and what to do to improve them. We’re all family and I just hope IB will not tear me apart. Also is HL biology really that hard? I don’t know exactly what I want my major to be but every career I’ve considered is in the bio field. And advice about the HL classes I’m considering if you have the time: I want to take 4 HLs but I’m told it’s too much. HL bio HL theatre HL psych & HL English All these subjects interest me and I don’t want to cut any of them out. But if I had to what would it be? And, what are the easiest/hardest?
@oliviaclay53584 жыл бұрын
Hey! I’m a senior IB student, and I’m currently taking 4 HLs with HL bio. Honestly your HLs will be a blast. IB bio is a really fun time and getting to stick with the same people for two years is really beneficial. HL psych is super fun but it does require two IAs I believe. HL English is the one a lot of people do even as non-diploma candidates so you’ll get a really fun mix of people in those classes. Honestly, I say go for it! Do things you’re passionate about and don’t let anything take away that passion. Choose IA topics you’re interested in, ask questions, write a stellar extended essay. Honestly it’s a bunch of dough in your hands and you meld it to how you want it. It’s nothing to be too afraid of if you stay diligent and use the support around you :) happy trails!

IB actually refers to a curriculum and not just the final two years, those are officially named the diploma program. The IB is a curriculum that stretches from Year 1 - Year 13. These are divided into PYP (Primary years programme) which is year 1 - 6 and then MYP (middle years programme) which is year 7-11 and then DP (diploma programme) which is the last two years. This reason that DP is commonly referred to as DP would be because many schools have students learn through the British or American curriculum until the last two years where they can switch to IB.

Anil Sharma This is very common in most schools, the transition from gcse To ib may be very difficult though because the IB requires a lot more reflective work and has a whole set of new terminology but its not impossible. In my opinion, i was advise IB all the way because I found it to be the most advanced/open minded curriculum and for families that move a lot, it is very easy for kids to reintegrate into schools, but it is a lot harder. But I’m very biased, and I’ve only done GCSE Spanish so my opinion may not be the most reliable. Hope this helps!

She went into her first semester of college with 39 credit hours that applied to her degree program. She'll be able to earn her BA, with a minor, and a teaching certification, in her 4 years. All of that to say... the work can absolutely pay off.

Random comment, I'm currently in my final Gr 12 semester of IB: I think it's best to focus on each assignment and assessment at a time while taking a look at the grand scheme of things only every so often. I felt like it was the hardest to mentally handle at the start of my first semester in Gr 11, where they introduce everything you're supposed to do in the following 2 years; IAs, EE, CAS, TOK, TOK Essay, multiple exams for each subject as they are split into different papers (MC, Short answer, or a third paper for most hl subjects that goes more in-depth). Focusing on each at a time really helped with getting over each of these, though ofc I'll have to see how the exams are, as they are freaking me out too.

Im a junior attending a full IB school, and I will say that the myp programs are very duable. They are extremely challenging (lots of work, tests, midterms, finals, etc). However for the diplomatic program, it gets about 10x harder from there. You have to complete CAS, EE, internal assessments in your senior year, along with midterms, IB exams, and finals. I barely get to sleep because of all the extracurriculars I do, and I won't say it's completely good because you dont really get to have that high school experience regular high schools have. I suggest you to go to an ib school or take ib classes if you are willing to work hard everyday, do your work, study for all your tests, and are passionate about doing well in school. Otherwise, if youre a slacker, I recommend to not go.

I actually started appreciating education, like I know why I am learning instead of wondering what's all this hard work for. The skills I developed during IB, especially critical thinking skills and research skills, transfer to uni and work. I think it's so much better than the local education system and if you can take IB, I say take IB.

Right now I do not have a research question, the only thing written is my name, and I'm in the mind set of self-abandoned. With Covid situation, the school asked students to finish all IAs, IOs, and rough draft of an entire EE within this term and the term ends before thanksgiving. I went to an IB school. I took the exams. I've been in IB since 6th grade (MYP until grades 11&12 which is DP). Honestly I didn't find it too hard, but I have accelerated learning capabilities and didn't stress about academics, ever. I didn't even know HOW to study until my second year of university. My whole life was stress, so I guess I didn't really have a stress trigger. I took IB courses for chemistry, biology, environment science, visual art, French, geometry, algebra, math studies, literature, theater, and film. I really liked visual art, it was high level, and I got an A every semester I took it. The IB exam for literature was a pain, had to memorize 50 poems. To be honest, I'm a strong writer. In advanced English in university, I got an A, and my professor suggested a few courses I'd do well in, including creative writing. My visual art class is how I chose my university major. My teacher had us try so many things and in that time I found I'm a natural in drawing, natural in pottery, and a pure love for graphic design. While in university, I found a liking for business, so I have a minor in business and a major in graphic design. My high school IB DP HL Visual Arts 1&2 teacher actually got teacher of the year. I loved the freedom we had. I could try just about anything, I failed so many times but I wanted to keep trying. He pushed us, but he also ENCOURAGED us to try things and be ambitious. My university application asked about all AP/IB courses I've taken..... listing about 16 courses by their full name was my least favorite thing. There was also the question about a struggle you had to overcome. I told my dark story of foster care and overcoming wanting to not life (for KZbin snowflakes). I guess between that and all my IB courses, that's how I got accepted into top schools. I also graduated in spring 2018, having taken the exams in May. So the program would have been the same for both of us.

Saves a whole bunch of time and money and by the time you graduate you are guaranteed to be a sophomore pretty much and not relying on hoping your you get your diploma and or the credits transfer to the college you want. I would also recommend taking your sophomore year at this community college too then just transferring to whatever university you would like 👍

Guys, those of you bashing the IB because it doesn't prepare you for life, you're forgetting the entire skills-based aspect of the program. Students always get sidetracked by the academics, and they often TOTALLY FORGET that it also promotes so many life skills (social, communication, collaboration, research, etc) and promotes a balanced lifestyle (CAS). If you're obsessed with getting 7s all the time, yeah it's gonna be hell, and you're probably not going to embody the real point of it. But if you enjoy the process of just learning - it's awesome, and you will be awesome. Former IB student here, and current IB teacher, and I think it is pretty much the best education system out there.
