In my filmmaking career, I have a ton of stories where I fake it and it worked out to my benefit, and I have some stories where I faked it and I still have nightmares to this day.
So I wanted to share a few of those stories with you, so you can hopefully avoid my mistakes and use the few lessons I’ve learned along the way.
I picked a story from my freelancing career, another from my video production company and the last is from my filmmaking career when I was making my first film.
Learn the exact blueprint I used to go from a struggling videographer, to running a profitable video production business, in this one-hour free training.

And sometimes your clients nudge you past your comfort zone and you don't have the guts to say no.

i also did this in the beginning. But i also realised very quick that faking is not the best thing. I think clients like it also when you tell them what you can not do.

Yes, it depends on your discipline and integrity. In the competitive system that we live in, people are trying all types of methods. Many who fake it may get the upper edge but take a risk that may affect their reputation. And many successful companies took many risks by faking their way in to get there. Some even delt with lawsuits depending on the situation. Some get away with it, others get caught and punished. In the world of business, it's a balancing act of staying ahead and being proper and appropriate. A way to cheat others while some are cheating you.

I did this for 1ac I had been an ac on small cameras for mostly static shots and was asked to ac a job on an arri alexa for a music video I was basically fired immediately after I couldn’t keep a shot in focus. Dp ended up going manually. Will never offer a skill based “fake it” again.

If you are referring to the content from this video and the stories I shared, it was my first few months in business and I was trying whatever I could and wanted to share them as honestly and transparently as I could since literally no one will tell you their real experience

I just watched this again. Maybe I didn’t communicate the point clearly. My point is sound confident and do research before having conversations so it sounds like you know what you are talking about and don’t go into situations blindly. And hire people to help you when you don’t know how to do something. Those are the two stories I shared. I don’t see anything manipulative about hiring people to help you when you can’t do the job. The one time I had someone sit in with me was the first month of my company and it was a last minute ditch effort to get a client that we needed or we would have went out of business. That client is still my client to this day and we’ve created dozens of animated videos for them

@@Filmmakingmentor I get that your intentions are pure, but I wouldn’t go as far as advising people to lie to their clients in order to close a deal. Your reputation, integrity and transparency as a business matters.
