I drove a manual car daily for the past 3 years, and I've changed to another manual. Learning manual teaches you to learn about gearings and where to find torque/engine brake with gears. This is especially useful when you're driving uphill and downhill. In an automatic, all you do is step on gas and brake when going up and downhill. You can also learn gearing with an Auto by yourself, but they don't teach them in school. Things like driving up a slope in the right gear to not over-rev yet finding enough power. Driving down a hill in the right gear to apply engine brake, so you do not have to constantly depress your brakes to slow down, which will cause brake fade and premature wear of brakes. I think just this reason alone, it is good to learn how to drive a manual.

Take a class 3 if you are more interested in cars. Go through the lessons, it will give you a deeper appreciation of how driving a car actually works.

Many drivers have issues with spatial awareness, complacent with checking mirrors, blind spots and hitting the signal. I drive a manual and I always hit the signal, check the mirrors and blind spots even if I happen to be driving an auto. I’m sorry to say this but I think auto car drivers have less to manage and still can’t hit the signal or check their blind spots and that’s just unsafe. U learn a lot from driving a manual car.

Very simple. I took 3A first then take class 3 cuz friends around me keep kpkb. Cost wise 3A was $2500 Class 3 i had to spend another $500 3 is more tiring but not more difficult 3 overseas can rent car especially europe alot of manual 3 can drive lorry or civic type R if needed So just suffer awhile and take class 3. 3A only advantage is easier on ur left foot. So just take class 3

​@@ElaineT1121 Hi paiseh nobody reply for the past 7 months 😅. Alright so I recently passed my Class 3A license in August at BBDC and now I'm taking express course Class 3 at CDC. So what I did was enrol for Class 3 online and then write an email to CDC telling them that I already have class 3A and if they could allow me to start lessons without having to take an eyesight test (cuz I got to book an appointment for eyesight test and the waiting time is 3 MONTHS). After a few weeks they replied & told me that I could start booking for lessons. I then found out that for express course, you'll only need to attend a minimum of 8 lessons and you could book for your test. So if you include practice lessons too most probably you'll only need to attend 10 to 12 lessons to get your license if you're a fast learner and pass at first time. The downside is you'll still need to book & attend the 3 TP driving simulator again which could cause a slight delay in booking your test. Nonetheless, I would still recommend you to go for it as you'll get to have a better understanding of how a car works and you'll never know if you'll have to drive a goods or heavier manual transmission vehicle one day or even having to drive in overseas e.g. in Europe where manual cars are prevalent there. Hence I believe you'll need to fork out another $900 to upgrade to class 3. Hope that helps! 😃 Feel free to ask me more questions with regards to getting a class 3 license.

Do not forget abt maintenance.. manual gearbox very lasting.. cheap to just replace clutch and one set of clutch can easily last for 150-200K mileage... and gearbox oil change longer intervals than auto. For auto delay in getting oil change might result in damage your transmission.. DCT is even more prone to this... down side for manual is hardly got choice of cars to buy as most are automatics. But given a choice i still prefer to drive manual.. more engaging.. I've been drive manual cars since 1998.. currently into my 6th manual car..😄

3A is enough, dun have to be pressured by enthusiast or dinosaur minded people who claim manual is the way to go. nowadays more cars are just created as auto, manual is gonna be phased out so do not force yourself to learn manual cus of silly things like peer pressure.

Gotten my son to take Class 3 instead of 3A 2 years ago when he was 20 years old. No regrets and he himself agreed to my decision. More engaging driving with the manual car. Also when overseas, rental is cheaper too 😊🙏

I will go for manual class 3 as I also owns a manual car. Beside the joy & satisfaction of driving manual there are few advantages which not mention by the rest at least to me. First and most important I nvr afraid of a flat battery, manual can always push start with some help. Second I find manual car is more safe, you won't have your car dash forward or backwards when u drive off or reverse. This has happen to in quite a number of automatic cars. Because of its easy control as you just need to step the accerator then your car will move off this give lots of ppl think they can easily dash across at discrete right turn which end up with quite a number of accidents during the past few years. This type of accident don't happen much during those days when you have more manual cars on the road. Due to the half crutch moving off your acceration won't be as fast as those automatic one within 10 to 20m for that right turn hence you will have a 2nd thought when you want to make a dash for it. Agree now manual model have limit selection like what you guys say the agent and PI aren't really bring in manual models. I have to specially get someone to import my car in and pay a premium for a cheap car. I just hope to keep my car beyond 2040 when the gov facing ICE.

I'm 24 and got my license Class 3 license in 2018. Would consider myself a car guy and hence that why I went for Class 3. Owned a manual car ever since and it's really engaging to drive manual especially when you rev-match it correctly. The TribeCar LiteAce nearest to my house is a manual so if I ever need a van to transport large items I can rent the manual LiteAce with no issues!

I’ve been driving manual car for the past 18 years since the day I got my license and my first car, and my second car was all manual… It’s sad that the next ride would most probably be Auto transmission…. Can’t really find a manual transmission family car nowadays… gonna missed that feeling! I encourage my wife to take manual transmission license and glad she got it decades ago…

There are 2 additional "auto" familiarisation lessons that you'll need to take for class 3A and you'll probably spend more lessons early on to get a hang of clutch control. Plus it's easier to screw something up during the test (e.g. stalling your engine incurs test demerit points) so folks may find the Class 3 test harder to pass. So there is truth to how taking Class 3 is significantly more expensive. I took 3 and will probably never buy/rent a manual but the knowledge will be a lifelong good-to-have (might need to rent a manual jeep when visiting a safari!)

Class 3 all the way. I still drive a manual car. The mechanical symphony is just beautiful to me. Every rev match, heel toe that I get correct makes me smile and an auto just can’t give me the same feeling. It’s true that EVs and automatics dominate the future. Just as smart watches and digital watches are dominant now. But there will always be enthusiasts who love mechanical watches and having full unfiltered control of their cars.

Nah, these days it’s pretty equal or more common to find automatics. Rental companies prefer to have more autos on their fleet due to lower carbon tax. Modern autos are also better to maintain since it’s more difficult to abuse the engine/trans vs a manual in the hands of an inexperienced driver.

I still drive a manual. It’s more fun. I would say it’s akin to piano vs keyboards/synth music. Keyboards are easier to play, more convenient and can produce sounds equally as good as a piano. But the enthusiasts would stiff prefer the feel of weighted keys, of having to control the pressure of the inputs. It’s more fun, it’s more satisfying. But I understand that for most people, an auto car would suffice.
