PSA: As a tattooer if you want a tattoo but are scared of how badly it will hurt and that you will potentially tap out, JUST ASK FOR NUMBING CREAM. There is no one right or wrong way to get a tattoo, we have nice technology, you can just not feel the pain nearly as much, nobody cares or even thinks weather or not your tattoo was numbed or not, they just see a tattoo and go THATS SICK

Sternum was my 1st tattoo and this is what helped me. Areas like the sternum and underboob are best done in super late summer to early fall so you can wear no bra and let it breathe, maybe even winter depending on how bad your winters are - Winter sweats can sneak up on you wearing layers, so if your winters aren't bad I'd say go for it. Underboob tats, try pasties to help lift the boob up to avoid crease sweat. I had no infection while I tummy slept, I did it completely topless and use a breathable black or brown topsheet - I ONLY did this after it began to scab! Do not do this before it scabs or it WILL transfer and it WILL stick to your bedding - Imagine a bandaid ripping off. Just. OWW. Sternum tats I reccommend also showering right before your appointment so you can give the most healing time before the next shower. Apply your preferred tattoo balm/vaseline/Neosporin etc before going into the shower to help seal it away from the water that'll make it sting. Be gentle and aware when soaping up, dont scrub but gently wipe.

I have tattoos on both my ankles and spine and none of them really hurt. I had a guy beside me in the artist's studio who was totally covered by tattoos bar his ankles and lower back. He was grunting and swearing as he had his right sleeve finished and I was there just chilling with the tattooist working on my ankles and not feeling much at all. I don't know why it is so easy for me in terms of skin pain, but the bony bits are agony in general.

Tip from someone with no tattoos at ALL: Separate shower head with extra long hose. Allows you to STAY SEATED in the bathtub if you still prefer showering to bathing, and you can use the handheld shower head to point the water where you want it to go on your body, and for the painful parts, you can let the water pour from the shower head into your hands and gently pour THAT on yourself, so the water pressure isn't a factor.

Or you/ your artist could just cover it with “second skin” to avoid all that… there’s different brands of it (dermalize pro, saniderm, tattoo med, second skin, etc) and unless you’re allergic to adhesives or band aids, ALL my clients swear by it. Heals your tattoo A LOT faster and with better ink retention as well. Please don’t scrub this with a towel as some other people were suggesting, you will get an infection and bad scarring. - a tattooer with 16 years of experience 🖤

My sternum hurt to get done, but healed in 4 or 5 days. My butt tattoo however, was the most painful! There's a spot over the sciatic nerve that feels like liquid fire being poured through your veins down your leg and up your spine. Plus it took months to heal right because I ended up with MRSA in the tattoo😅 (The tattoo shop and/or personal hygiene were not to blame. I needed surgery after an accident, and got it from the hospital. )

For the first few days, when showering you can cover it up with Emu oil and glad wrap. Emu oil is great for burns and fresh tats. It oily and hydrophobic, works pretty well on its own but also makes glad wrap stick to your skin. It does almost nothing for the heat, so you'll still have to have a mild temperature shower.

@@auroragannon7727 they had to actually do this in order to get to my heart :) they took it out of my body and did surgery on it, then placed it back. I am not sure if thats the case for anyone with open heart surgery, but I was born with something called left isomerism polysplenia syndrome which basically mirrors all of my organs (everything is left sided) and my heart looks different than a normal heart, and i miss some important valves so maybe that has something to do with it. I do however have some other issues that make me want to sue them, since surgery was apparently not helpful enough; long story short, fast forward a few years later and I got a pacemaker because heartsurgery wasn't enough. For two years now I am going through a lot of pain, gaining weight while being on diet after diet, retaining fluid, and my heart is very unstable, so I went to see the hospital who said that I am a "drama" patient because they can't find anything (or rather, they refuse to make proper time to examine me) and it ended up in me being hospitalized for a while just a week ago because one of the pacemaker leads suddenly broke down and it gulped up 4 years of the pacemaker's lifespan in 2 days; my heartrate was double the amount it should be, and my blood pressure as well. A couple of days ago I got this message: 'oopsie, it might have been your pacemaker all along causing you trouble' mind you, it gets checked out by them biannualy:') sorry for this whole life story, but I might sue! @@NHTV26 Yikes, doctors who care about profits over patients (I'm not saying that was the case for your doctors, might have been simple negligence which is still medical malpractice) need a reality check because eventually it will most likely cost them both, or worse. Definitely save that message/any other records of their negligence and speak to an attorney as soon as possible to see what you can do because the chances are that if they feel like they can get away with letting this happen to you, they have let it or will let it happen again to someone else.

Medical tidbit...If you are semiconscious or unconscious and are in the hands of emergency medical professionals they will perform a sternal rub which is taking their knuckles, pressing them firmly into your sternum and rigorously rub the area to check your pain response. If you want to see if you can handle a tattoo in this area start by having someone do a sternal rub to you....then proceed with caution as stated in the video 👍

So here’s some things you can do: instead of regular showers, lower the temperature a bit so it’s warm but not scalding, use a bathtub if you have one or shower with your back facing towards the shower head and wash your sternum with a towel instead This is because the sensation of the water hitting your tattoo when it’s new is a bitch and a half and is generally the worst experience no matter where you get a tattoo, I would recommend waiting maybe 3-4 days before your first shower just to get a thin layer of healing before you get yourself a second round of masochistic pain. Shower just before going to the tattoo studio and you should be fine, if you get oily hair, either only wash your hair in a bucket or use dry shampoo Remember snacks when going in for a tattoo, eat before and eat in breaks. It’s not wrong to ask your tattoo artist for a break when getting tattooed and not everyone has balls of steel/very low pain receptors Sternum, being right over your vital organs, will always hurt. Like really hurt. There’s nothing wrong with researching numbing creams for a sternum tattoo, although I would argue if you signed up for it you’re gonna get the full pain. But that’s just me, and you’re free to do whatever you want Numbing creams won’t take the pain fully but it’ll dull it to a “buzzing sensation” you’ll still definitely feel it, and you have to research numbing creams that can handle between 4-8 hours depending on how big your sternum tattoo is - a tattoo apprentice

I always got told that tattoos on boney/low fat areas always hurt more than other areas. Although, I got my shin bone tatted on & fell asleep during the outline & coloring process. Woke up once to say "Ow" when my artist hit a nerve & made my toes curl. Personally, I like to cover any new tatts with a moist hand towel (double folded) before showering, it keeps the harsh water from causing excruciating pain. Also, like you said, warm not lava.

@@Guy84_ don’t soak in the tub. Wash in the tub. The tub makes the water still, meaning the impact of rushing water will not agitate your tattooed skin. However due to a tattoo being essentially a freshly created wound, with ink under it. Don’t soak as, like most other scabs, the top layer that 1) prevents infection 2) prevents the ink from leaking, can begin peeling prematurely. One of my tatoo artists/friend swears by an old Japanese healing technique. When you shower or bath, get the water as hot as you can possibly stand and hold it over the tattoo for a min or 2. Do it a couple times each shower and it will serious help in the healing and scabbing department!!! I do this with every tattoo and they heal so much faster and with less scabbing/peeling!

I always recommend waiting between one to three days before showering with a new tat. And never let the water touch the tattoo directly. Lukewarm water is best, the colder the better. And let that water run off of you. When washing the tattoo outside of the shower, let cold water run down your skin and over the tat. Rub the soap (antibacterial, unscented, for sensitive skin) over the area of the tat and let the water carry the soap over it. I’m not sure if any of this was followed or what Mattie did specifically (I love them anyways so they can do no wrong). I’m speaking from experience. The tattoo is extremely sensitive the first couple of days so it’s best to avoid touching it. And when you do, use product make for sensitive skin so as to not irritate the skin. This sensitivity usually wanes around the second or third day mark, depends on the piece (size, location, etc.)

Just a little to for the future, if a creator likes your comment don't edit the comment because it deletes the like. It sucks but protects the creator from liking a comment then having that comment changed to something they may not agree with while their like is still visible to others. Basically it prevents trolls/haters from saying something positive then editing their comment to something hateful and making it look like the creator liked something against their views or morals.

This is one of my favourite things about people: we're all so very different. I got my tragus pierced and I didn't even know that she'd done the piercing until she reached around to put on the back. It was like nothing. Not even a pinch. My belly button ring? Felt like he was shoving a hot fire poker slowly and tortuously through my belly button at the speed of smell. It was fucking awful, lol. I've never actually met another person who had a bad experience with their belly button piercing. We just experience the same things so differently. So cool.

Fun fact - the reason why tattoos on the sternum, collarbone and stomach area hurt so much is because its the region that protects vital organs! Areas that are critical for human life tend to be more sensitive to let you know something is wrong earlier

I don’t recommend this. It’s extremely harmful to the tat. It pulls the ink out. Lotion or cleaning the tat with soap and water if the only thing I would recommend putting on a healing tat. The kind made for sensitive works best in my opinion (makes sense, tat is sensitive and doesn’t need any of that extra stuff). I do think it’s okay if the lotion is infused with oil like grapeseed oil or hemp oil. It promotes healing and gets rid of the itching and dryness

The reason to why these tattoos hurt so bad. It's cuz there's not a whole lot of meat there. What I mean by me I mean by fat. If you have more meat in different areas you're going to have less pain. But it's your underarms or the bottom of your forearm. Your feet your hands that's going to be painful. I'll get out your head is going to be painful if you're a guy and you're getting your thing tattooed your penis basically it's going to hurt. If you tattoo and areas it's a little less painful. I've heard people complain about having the top of their feet tattooed and how painful that is. Tattoos on the back across the spinal columns a little painful. But usually up around your shoulder blades and it's super painful but somewhat painful. I've heard a lot about tattoos I personally don't have any yet. But I'm working on a save money up to get tattoo I want done. Cuz it's going to be pressing it's going to cost me

This is false information, everyone has different pain tolerance. I say this cause I have a lot of tattoos, including a knee tattoo by far worse than that. I keep my saniderm on 48 hours and after that I use Aquaphor by far the best healing ointment, it also acts as a barrier. Obviously no heat on it, water or sun. Although you are right about one thing, you will not be able to wear a bra.
