Bit me ….because the manager took that two week notice to fire me. It was the lowest paying no high school diploma necessary situation and I spoke up and shared workplace expectations to the majority immigrant population. The manager was so mad that he said don’t come back two days after I turned my two week letter into HR.

Ugh. What a terrible experience. Sounds like it's a very good thing you don't work there any more!!

What if you are working for a temp agency should I do the same ?

Great question! From my experience working with temp agencies to hire talent, I have the same expectation that I would give 2 weeks notice to the organization I am temping at AND also the temp agency. You may have signed a contract so just look at that for any language on resignation timelines etc. I don't imagine this will change much though! Good luck!

What if they gave me an offer letter but it’s contingent on background, reference, mvr, and drug screening? Should I go ahead and give the two week notice. They want me to sign the document to start 12/2. I should be able to pass everything. Do you think I’m over thinking dropping the 2 week notice?

Don’t resign until everything’s locked in with the new employer. Always give yourself a buffer for hiccups.

I agree with this!

A contingent offer is not a job offer. Anything can happen, so DO NOT resign/put in your 2 weeks until you have a formal offer of employment. I would communicate this with the hiring team and ask that your start date be at least 2 (if not more) weeks after you’ve been sent and accepted the formal offer.
