The top line is thick because it is a more forgiving (game improvement) head design made fore for the beginner golfer. You should probably have graphite shafts too.

Club Lesson 101 Women's clubs are generally 1 inch shorter than men's and have smaller grips Go to a certified fitter and get fitted it will help the learning curve drastically.
