@GmanGSW2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the threat's condition. If they are still able to move, too easily, yes, I'd detain (Tae Kwon Do & some grappling background). If the threat is down, wounded, no longer a "threat?" I'd leave the threat there, removing any firearm or other weapon from their reach... I wouldn't want the person to hurt myself, anyone else around me or for me to make them "worse," if I've "immobilized" them... The situation would dictate.

As a retired LEO and instructor, I have to say that there are too many variables and unanswered questions associated with this scenario for anyone to be able to answer such a simple question. However, if you find yourself in a 1on 1 situation like the one portrayed here, you may legally try to contain the shooter provided you have the physical means to do so. I would suggest using the leg technique only if the shooter had first been incapacitated. If he is in full fight mode, your arms are no match for his legs.

This is an excellent way to get kicked. You won't be controlling a crazy person just because you have their heel and toe. Assuming they will comply and roll over is not realistic. One person lays across the legs. Another person applies knee pressure between the shoulder blades. The suspect is not getting up. All this is predicated on the idea that a civilian will have the wherewithal to approach, disarm, and subdue an armed attacker. I'd much rather distance be maintained and the attacker be held down with $1-2 worth of lead, center mass, delivered at high velocity. Nobody has to get close to the crazy person.

This is probably one of the most ineffective methods I've seen to control or subdue someone who is a threat. The number of steps required to properly perform this makes it completely impractical. Not only that but the person you were trying to subdue is not going to just sit there and lightly kick his legs in a way that will allow you to continue your procedure. He is going to be full of adrenaline and there is no way that this maneuver is going to play out as described in the video. To me, this is an example of the police training I received over many years. They were well thought-out procedures and Maneuvers but seldom were able to be used in the dynamic aspect of fighting for your life. As law enforcement we have a duty to deal with a threat at the most non-lethal level that will actually stop the threat. As civilians we're not necessarily Bound by that same rule. If someone is defending there's or someone else's life they can use whatever measure is necessary to stop the threat, up to and including lethal force. The best method for taking out an assailant is fast and direct debilitating moves. The quicker you can take out the assailant the quicker you can secure the safety of others and yourself.
