Oh and I just want to say Dr C if you are reading these comments you have helped me tremendously!! I tried to get an appt with you but was told you are not seeing new patients. I was willing to fly from NYC :) BUT thank you so so much for helping me out. I am on your reset diet now :)

The risk are absolutely there and they are real. Very important message. I was overmedicated and had some very serious issues. Very scary. And I felt very hypo rather than hyper as one would expect. Great message.

The reason people say that a TSH reading doesn't matter when taking NDT, is because NDT has T3 in it (and T2 T1 and calcitonin) giving a false TSH reading. As well, for people who have had their thyroid removed by surgery or RAI, the TSH is signalling nothing. It's true that if the TSH is too low you do have to always monitor T3 and T4 readings... for sure. T3 should be at the high end within range and T4 at mid-range. There have been many studies on this so not so sure your information is accurate here.

I hear conflicting info regarding TSH levels and because of this and switching doctors three times due to various reasons, doors closed, preference etc. I have had an ongoing symptom issue of feeling hypo but having hyper numbers. This Video has really helped me understand this better. Thank you Dr. C please keep up with getting out the good information to help us be our own advocates as good doctors don't seem to be covered by insurance companies and the ones that do accept/file with insurance don't seem to have a clear understanding of the Thyroid issues and the underlying causes that need to be addressed.

Thanks, Doc. I do have very low TSH readings these past few years. And as per doctor's requests, I've gradually lowered it. I am experiencing low thyroid symptoms, but your words give me renewed determination to soldier on. For awhile, anyway. By the way, when you look away from us, which you do for minutes at a time, I just wonder who you're looking at.

My T3 and T4 normalized soon after I was diagnosed with graves but my TSH wasn't coming up (it did a little but not much). I started experiencing heart palpitations. I finally caved and went on 5 mg of methimazole. Since my TSH has normalized dead center but now my T3 and T4 are getting lower but still in range. I decided to go on Dr C's reset diet. My Dr says I may be going into remission soon fingers crossed. I am hoping the diet pushes me in that direction. I hope everyone figures out their own path to health :)

What happened Christine? Are you OK now?

Yes! I am in remission and have been for 5 years! I’m on a vegan diet and nothing had returned. Fingers crossed. I also exercise a lot which reduces stress and helps me too. I hope your health is good as well!

My TSH is .09 and has been under .1 for several years after my thyroidectomy. My T3/T4 are also at the low end of the "normal" range and don't move whether my TSH is .04 or 4.99. I also have idiopathic growth hormone deficiency (a pituitary hormone). I am so sick of arguing with my doctor about TSH, and people thinking that it is the only hormone that matters. TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. I really wish doctors were better educated on what to do when the HPA axis isn't working and no negative feedback exists.

I have hyper. When diagnosed at TSH 0.004, my MD put me on medication immediately, before an endo appointment was made. I was told that medication was necessary immediately as there was a risk of stroke and heart attack. Also booked an ultrasound scan of my thyroid.

Hi Dr C. Can you please tell me/us what the recommended levels are for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4? I have a shrinking macroprolactinoma so my levels keep changing as my pituitary gland is starting to work again. I only get two blood tests a year and so I have to guess how much Nature Throid to take. Thanks so much for your super informative videos.
