MY THYROID & GRAVES' DISEASE JOURNEY

UPDATE (12/08/2022):
My hormone levels are back to normal, and I did not get TED or eye surgery for my eyes. The pressure in my eyes have gone down SO MUCH because my doctor recommended I go on Selenium (1 pill a day). Crazy what natural remedies can do for your eyes. I have way less pressure than I used to and my eyes have gone down a couple millimeters. Ask your doctor first about taking selenium.
It all started a few years ago... I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease. It led me to have a thyroidectomy on October 8, 2018. Watch the video to hear my story!
If you are battling with thyroid issues or have, it's such a hard topic to deal with. It's confusing, exhausting, and overall just so hard. I'm sorry you have had to deal with it also.
If you have any questions about my story, please don't be scared to leave a comment or ask me a question!
Thank you guys for watching!

blujay Please turn to Jesus He loves you very much, i was ill for many years but the doctors couldn't really help me, i don't blame them, there was only so much that they could of done for me, Then Jesus gave me a miracle and healed me, He is the God of miracles, God has done amazing things in my life and in the life's of my family, He can do the same for you and yours, When you need Him call on Him, He is the God of comfort and will there for you when you call on Him, The bible tells us in Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, God saved someone i love from an illness leading to death, There is nothing impossible to God, It's as simple as asking Jesus into your heart and life to be your personal Lord and Saviour, confess your sins to Jesus, and Jesus will for give you, If you truly seek Him, Jesus will answer you, i know this because He answered me when i called out to Him

Girl thank you for this!!! I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a few months ago and it is so trying!! No one seems to understand this, and my mom keeps telling me that I am just lazy! I was lucky enough to get diagnosed early on, I felt such a bad headache and got diagnosed afterwards. My symptoms consist of mainly tiredness and fatigue and a crazy appetite. I am tired by 12 pm no matter how much sleep I get. My blood pressure and heart rate is balanced right now, but I am still very tired and from time to time I feel like I am about to get a panic attack. My thyroid is still not balanced so I went through a hypo phase in which I gained tons of weight and slept most of the day. But it’s taking a toll on me mentally, I just don’t feel validated by my family, they are making me feeling like I am lazy and whiny whereas I am so tired, weak and anxious…

Once Covid numbers go down in my state and the medication to calm my thyroid kicks in I will be having the surgery to remove it. I was diagnosed with Graves in January 2020 and have been off and on medicine it was super high then went super low and now it’s going back high. We were planning on doing RAI but bc lately my eye sight has gotten super bad they wanted me to see an eye specialist. I see the eye specialist tomorrow and will talk with my endocrinologist to see if I will get the surgery or RAI. I also have rheumatoid arthritis on top of that and a heart condition that I’ve had since birth. I’m glad I found this video!

I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease when I was in third grade(8 years old). Everyone who I live with has been to medical school and when I was sleeping my heart rate was super high, and basically most of the symptoms of graves and one day when my school had a snow day my mom took me to the doctors and set up an emergency appointment and went to go get my blood drawn once in 5th grade so 10 years old I was taken off of my medication and am now in full remission and am now 13 but recently we had thought I was going to be put on Synthroid but luckily my TSH was normal from my last blood drawn

Thank you for sharing! 4 days ago I did the RAI Therapy and I am house bound still. My life has been a whirlwind for the last 5 months. I am 54 and this is all so crazy. Back story: August I went to a new MD and she required a full blood panel. My routine MD quit and that is why I had to find a new MD. Within 2 days after my blood panel was drawn I got a call telling me I was in a full blown thyroid storm. I had tremors, hot flashes, lost 30 lbs. September I saw an Endocrinologist and was put on meds ASAP. October, November my numbers for thyroid went down but liver and bone hormones went sky high. December 10th I was given the choice of RAI or thyroid removal.... at the stage in life that I am I chose RAI. December 26th is where I am now. One day at a time. God bless! You are a beautiful young lady and thank you again for sharing your story!

This is so similar to my own story! I was 19 years old (I’m 39 now) and away at school when I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and an extremely overactive thyroid. My parents started to notice my bulging eyes when I was home for winter break but we did nothing about it. My eyes were getting worse and there was a noticeable goiter in my neck. 3 days before I was supposed to go to London for spring break my best friend picked me up and rushed me over to the hospital. She had been talking to her mom about how horrible I had been looking/feeling and her mom immediately knew what the problem was. She had gone through the same thing herself so she knew! I had them run blood tests and that’s when I found out. I had to immediately start taking a beta blocker for my heart palpitations, which were horrible btw. They kept me up all night. I went to London, felt like shit the whole time, came home and saw an endo. They put me on meds and after a few adjustments I was feeling so much better. My eyes started to go back and my energy felt good. Unfortunately after being on meds for about 3 years they stopped working. My thyroid levels were increasing. I elected to do RAI. I was fine for about two years when my thyroid started to grow again! I had to do the RAI again which killed my entire thyroid. I was officially now hypothyroid. I lost my job right before the 2nd RAI and my insurance ran out after a month. Instead of going back in to do follow up bloodwork and getting on the proper thyroid meds we waited. Horrible mistake. I became so lethargic, had foggy brain and was barely functioning. I luckily landed a new job with great insurance. I called a new endo to get in and there was a month long wait. I had to tell them how horrible I was feeling and sent them my last bloodwork. They called me back and said the doctor needed to see me ASAP because my levels were dangerously low. I got in, he was great. He put me on Levothyroxine and started feeling better within weeks. I eventually regained my energy and started working out again. I am still on the Levothyroxine and feel great. Oh btw, my first endocrinologist said the said the same thing about my overactive thyroid; it was HUGE. It was definitely a long journey to get to where I am at now.

It sounds like a real dramatic event for you and your family. I'm 73 and just found out a few days ago I too have graves disease. This anxiety and the shaking is so hard to deal with. I don't know yet if they are thinking of removing my thyroid but I would accept it and be happy. I know then I take meds for hypothyroidism but that's fine by me. I don't want to have to deal with such a surgery right now as my 39 yr old daughter had cervical cancer so I must be there for her. It's hard many times in life isn't it? We least expect it and here's a harsh problem thrown at us. Good luck and much happiness.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm reading a lot of people say their family was not understand which blows my mind. Do you mind if I ask, when you say they weren't supportive did they not understand your symptoms or did they not understand why you feel Ill? I just got diagnosed and when I told my parents they were scared. The fact that it's autoimmune scared them. But when I told them with graves I could get a little anxious and irritable. That's when they don't understand and told me that's no reason to be moody.

Seems like you have supportive doctors etc. I’m going to do a documentary on the process. I’m trying to go the holistic route . Not sure how this will turn out but thank you for sharing.

Hold on ... If u believed in holistic approach do that too .. Stress in one of issues if graves and if u have TED. going thru it meditation and deep breathing & pure essential oil keep my stress level,anxiety emo at bay at the same time getting proper food intake like proteins, magnesium, vit-b helped too but I did this with my functional med coach. It doesn't cure but at least I'm in control of my body and managing it. I'm still on camazol and monitoring bloodwork. If this round my antibody isn't cooperating I have to consider thyroid removal. It can be quite frustrating but if any means u can adopt holistically to manage ur condition u can try and see how it goes. Hold on and all will be good though it won't be the same but it will be good.

I have Graves too. It really does mess with your life in so many ways. I had my first flare 3 years ago, recovered with methamizole and was in remission for two years, but it just came back. It messes with you physically but also emotionally and cognitively. Thanks for sharing your story because it’s really encouraging to see how well you’ve recovered, especially since I may need to consider surgery at some point if this keeps coming back. BTW you look beautiful, including your eyes, so don’t stress about that.

I too had hyperthyroidism and had my thyroid removed. Like you it was enlarged and I could hardly eat. I was still in hospital when I got the tingly hands, they seized up and looked deformed. Scary. But I had no signs of Graves until 3 months later when double vision started. I’m now 3 years down the line and about to have decompression surgery tomorrow. Graves has only affected one eye, thank goodness. I’m menopause age so my problem is that I cannot shift any weight since the thyroid surgery. In fact I’ve put on 26lbs. Your video is great for anyone going through this. Well done for putting it out there. 😊

Thank you for sharing your story. I've just been told I have Graves desease. After about 6 month of giving birth I went through a full thyroid storm. I started shaking, heart racing, sweating, hungry all the time, anxious, and headaches. My aunt immediately rushed me to the hospital, where I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. My grandmother had suffered from it as well and had the surgery done. I also have 3 cousins 2 with hypo and one 11 year old with Graves, now doing better. I honestly don't know if I am more scared of the surgery or of taking meds and making other things worse such as my liver or bones, which I've read others stating this as side affects. I just came out of a bad C-section, where I had lost too much blood as well and rushed back to the hospital 2 weeks later, because air bubbles had travelled to my lungs. I also heard that a study in Indonesia showed that most people who had an infection in the gums saw their thyroid levels go back to normal after taking care of the infection and I know I have one but won't be seen during the pandemic. Babies take a lot of calcium from the mother, which is said that that is the reason some mothers start showing symptoms about 6 months after birth. I am also going to try and follow a strick diet and do yoga. I watched a video explaining that yoga has helped many people bring their thyroid hormones back to normal. I also want to move back to PR where I can grow my own food. I am not allowed to even put a plant of vegetables on my porch. 😢 I am scared but going to have to try and fight this. I am not afraid of having a scar. I am afraid of leaving my kids. 😢😢😢😢 Thank you again for the video. You look great. I am so happy for you. Many blessings.

In the uk, surgery is a last resort. They now opt for radioactive iodine first, and if unsuccessful (after 2 tries) they would then consider surgery. My specialist even said that surgeons in the UK are not really trained in thyroid surgery any more. The radio active iodine had no side effects on me, you just have to isolate for 2 weeks and carry a letter when you travel for 6 months (you can set off alarms in airports!! Happened to me in krakow). The only thing they ask at the time is about your eyes as the iodine will irritate your eyes if you have TED.

Bethany, you're so sweet and beautiful. My 14-year-old daughter was just diagnosed today with GD. My poor wife is so stressed out. My daughter is A-Symptomatic and has not shown any signs or symptoms of GD. My sister-in-law noticed a slight abnormality with my daughter's neck and GD was mentioned and we immediately had it checked out. IT was positive. So, we are starting on the meds to get her T3 and T4 to a normal level. We will wait 6 months to a year to see if it will go into remission on its own and if not, we will cross the bridge of which definitive treatment is best. You are very cool to share your story. You have a wonderful beautiful presence and that comes out loud and clear. Don't be too concerned about your eyes, they're beautiful. Thanks Again, Jon, A concerned Daddy.

@Samantha Privatera There are other ways. Don't cut something out of your body. That's irreversible. I have graves disease too but I resist a surgery and I'm currently researching alternative ways. I've found some promising stuff. As a last resort go for a partial removal of your thyroid because it's the only gland that can reproduce its cells and be whole again.
@nvmffs
@nvmffs 4 жыл бұрын
@Samantha Privatera I understand but unfortunately a surgery doesn't mean you won't be taking medicine. They "cure" your hyperthyroidism and give you hypothyroidism instead. Doctors like to present this as a mild inconvenience but it's not. I've read so many personal stories and people are sorry they went through surgery thinking it would be better. Instead, they feel like they've backed themselves into a corner. Once you remove your thyroid you have no other means to improve your condition but these pills they give you. Problem is, they don't work like doctors say they would. You can't replace a whole gland with just a single hormone (often a synthetic one) given as a pill (the thyroid secretes hormones in very specific cycles and by a negative feedback). The list of side effects is pretty long and the underlying condition remains untreated too. Once you remove your thyroid the antibodies start attacking your eyes or something else instead. To me, it just doesn't seem like a solution. it seems like another problem. A bigger one. There are circumstances where one may not have a choice but until then it might be worth it to try and find a way to save your thyroid.

@@GabijaS18 Hi Gabija! Don't ever lose hope! Start experimenting with alternative methods and don't stop until you cure your condition. I'm sure you know stress is a huge factor for your thyroid health. Try to minimize it in any way possible. Practice yoga, special breathing methods or whatever else you think helps you relax but don't let stress to take over because it'll ruin your efforts to get healthy. You can start your journey into the alternative methods aimed at reversing this condition by reading this: drruscio.com/natural-management-graves-disease/ and this allegrawakest.com/2010/04/19/hyperthyroid/ Depending on the cause of your hyperthyroidism you may need to take a different course of action from what was working for me. You'll need to identify it for yourself by a doing a lot of tests and experiments with your diet and lifestyle. But it's worth it at the end, I promise. Stay strong and know that you can always count on me if you need further help or support.
