About 40 yrs ago, my father bought a bigger flat so that our then joint-family could have more space and a front-facing home, something he felt that his parents and siblings deserved. He arranged money from relatives and paid them back in a few years' time. One big blunder he made was, paying the money for buying the flat and putting his younger brother's name on it instead of his own, thinking that it was a common family asset and his younger brother was not doing very well. He supported them like a father to stand on their own feet, sometimes even taking loans on behalf of the brothers to help start small businesses. 40 yrs later it was decided that the flat will be sold as each of the brothers had made their lives and their kids were also working now. However, now my father had to share the money received from the sale of the house. My uncles claimed that they paid some unrealistic amounts to my father every month so they too deserved a share in the property. My father lived with his maternal uncle till he completed his education and hence was not the most fav child of my grandparents, and refused to support my father. So in the end, my father just got 40% for a flat that he paid for fully. He struggled through the years to pay off the money he borrowed, sometimes even selling my mom's jewelry. Now he does not want to even look at the faces of his brothers.

I gave about 30 k to my GF to buy a two wheeler. After a month I asked her my money back. Eventually she gave but the relationship was about to end. So I thought it's all my hard earned money and took back every thing i have spent on her. Be it on food, shopping and trips. Now I got my money back and she'll not bother me anymore. I have a peaceful life now. Planning to buy health and term insurance for my family.

This is the first time i m 100% agreeing to you as this is so close to my own reality...always expecting in-laws without seeing our sacrifice in life..we did not go on any foreign trip , do not always travel in plane. Take trains to places less then 20 hrs journey but they have not traveled in trains also gone on a foreign trip.. As most of it we are financing ..moral of the story is no one feel the pinch if its not their own hard earned money getting spent even if its their own son's hard earned money..they are ready to splurge..
