So I've been doin a lot of research on these cars now. One thing I'd add to your list is a carbon fiber or aluminum drive shaft. It seems like it would shed overall weight by 50-65lbs, as well as spin up faster at speed, giving you longer legs against opponents like the Mustang, because of regaining some efficiency lost in the drive train with stock shaft.

RacerX: First, kudos for excellent content in your videos. Here you go with my 2 cents as a widebody Scat Pack Charger owner 16 months in. Depends on a person's goals. For me, I really appreciate the OEM package (lightly modified) because I have my perspective from having a very modified fox body 5.0 in the 90's and several very fast bikes after that. My car is lightly modded intentionally and a daily driver. For me, a JLT catch can, cold air intake and Hooker blackheart headers is it. Those 3 simple mods, my custom drive mode (trans in " track" always) and regular doses of Lucas ethanol fuel treatment to keep the injectors clear, adds up to a stupid fun, reliable, "legit" muscle car. NOT a world beater, but a..dead reliable 500 HP street car is NOT a joke. Mine was special ordered in 2019 (waited 5 months for it) so that also impacted my choices in NOT screwing up a super nice driver. Mine is to..DRIVE and beating the piss out of the 5.0 in the 90's gives me restraint now with mods. Factory exhaust with headers is gloriously loud WOT, quiet when needed to be and NOT restrictive so no NEED to change it. We are agreed the OEM tires are "junk" but that's easy fix. We are spoiled now with what the OEM's are building HP wise (If you can pay the freight for it), but my Scat is plenty fast for the street and MOST importantly, dead reliable compared to the welded subframed, cammed, geared, fox body I had that spit parts or broke..something on a regular basis. Because I had that car and a string of other modded cars/bikes, I can appreciate the Scat for what it is, as a super fun NA street car you can drive and just grin..every single time without issues. Keep it up sir👍

Great and informative as usual. I just had my 2021 wide body scat cammed and tuned. It is the first mod I have done on the car. VERY pleased with the result. Gained about 35 HP to the wheel and maybe 20 -25 ft lbs of tourque. It really brought out some personality in the car. Woke it up, especially in the mid-range. And the way it grumbles at idle now, even with a bone stock exhaust system, is just perfect. My original plan was to cam, long tubes, and exhaust with a tune for the car. I almost don't want to do all that now, just because of how much i LOVE the sound of the cammed car with just stock exhaust. I really think dodge crushed it with the exhaust note on these cars.

Exactly, the aftermarket pipes don't gain as much as the manufacturers claim and need other components, as pipes alone won't do much. They work a lot better when adding CAI as well as headers, and work together hand-in-hand. I was going to straight pipe my Challenger, but decided against it because I wanted larger-diameter pipes and went with SLP loudmouth cat backs instead. Which consists of 3" as well as eliminates the resos, and open chamber racing bullets replaces them. They sound fantastic together with the 6.1 Hemi, and really breathes so much better now. It's loud as hell and does has some drone, but just need to change up the RPM's a little and it goes away. Was considering the extremes and attacks by borla, but thought that they sounded every bit as good and are the best bang for the buck at $599. The 6.1s handle boost better then 392, and are more simplistic without the variable valve timing bull. It's 69.8 HP per liter is the highest output of any Chrysler motor ever produced, and even exceeds that of the 66 race hemis believe it or not

I have a 2016 Scat Pack. Mods are tune, Fastman TB, 180 T stat, home ported intake to better align manifold pieces, Catless mids, headlight air intake. At the drag strip light wheels and racing tires all around and about 150 lbs weight reduction. So far best is 11.5 at 119. Recently installed adjustable rear control arms and set camber to zero to correct negative camber problem on right rear. I'm confident car will run 11.4 possibly 11.3 at over 120 in decent DA. I agree with your analysis but you may have underestimated gain from catless mids. There was a difference that was easy to feel. With the current mods, car can be returned to stock in a day. Took a lot of time fitting the catless mids so they can be exchanged with stock mid pipes in about 2 hours. Thanks for the great video.

These car's are fun and fast from the gitgo, he's spot on. The tires are crap unless you love fishtailing around corners with little effort.....I need tires. The active exhaust sounds great from what I've been told.....I don't know never seen my car drive off without me, but it's quite in the cabin. The only thing I would change is add some electric exhaust cutouts....yeah like open pipes on my old T/A. CAI is a must I believe, that motor loves her air. And I've seen a few that have been cammed and tuned that does make a helluv a difference,but I would probably add oil catch can in there somewhere.
@markim50874 жыл бұрын
Kevin Newlan a cold air doesn’t work on the 6.4 the only airbox mod is add the lower Hellcat box,now if you have ported heads cams long tubes a cold air may work,but still I’ve seen 1000hp Hellcat’s that still use the stock airbox for a reason..really the best mod is to just add either turbos or a blower.

He's absolutely correct. I have researched superchargers and I spoke with an individual who builds race engines and the problem with boosting these engines is the pistons, the Hellcat has forged pistons and will take that pressure, the 392 doesn't have those forged pistons. He recommended an intercooled Magneson but that would only get me 150hp but he said anymore than that wouldn't be safe as far as the pistons are concerned. He did recommend, no matter what you do or don't do, is a catch-can. He said that would add life to the engine. Personally, I'm going to go with a catch-can to preserve the engine, a tuner to add a few more horses and make the most of racing fuel and arguably most important, NEW TIRES so I can hook rather than break the tires loose. It doesn't matter how much power you have if you don't have tires that will grab the pavement. I won't beat the Helltcat but it's still a lot of fun and still faster than most any other bone stock cars. By the way, I trust this guy, I've fact checked MUCH of what he's said and he hasn't been wrong yet, a couple debatable issues but that's it.

I’m glad I modded my 1320!!! First off it’s got an advantage over stock scat pack with suspension and torque converter! I did cam, ported heads, long tubes and 3200 converter with ported intake manifold and throttlebody for less than $6,000 doing it myself! In high DA and heat my car runs 11.4 all day on 20 inch nexens and just a rear seat delete while other 1320s run 12.2 with 17 inch wheels so it is a significant gain for the money for me! If I run 17 inch beadlocks and pull passenger seat in low DA I should run low 11s high 10s

I added a Procharger to my stock 2012 Charger SRT 6.4 and for me it's really really way more fun. I don't drag or street race. I don't care about 0-60 times either. Just stepping on it from any speed is way better than stock. I've had this since 2017 and no problems so far. I haven't installed any gauges to see A/F ratio or boost. Every time I drive it I have to floor it. I love the sound of the Procharger and blow off valve. I left the underneath panels off but did the wheel well. Just to prove that the 392 loves boost and doesn't need much to put it well into the 10's we installed a ProCharger D1SC , long tube headers, and a muffler delete. The pcm is tuned with HP Tuners. My wife's best 1/4 mile E.T. to date is 10.75@125 mph. People get careless when boosting stock Hemi engines. Yes building the motor with forged internals is the only way to build big power but for less than $8900 you have a vehicle that is as quick through the 1/4 mile as most stock Hellcat's and still cost less.

Easy to understand and well packaged information for what I've heard about the 6.4. Seems to me a cam, intake, and tires are about all you'll be able to do realistically. I agree tires are key. If you can get the big torque to hook up on the low end you should gain some acceleration and peace of mind relatively cheap.

Great vid! The one i simply don't agree with you on is the nitrous. I ran it on my scat & it never caused any problems for me. I was on 100 shot & it was safer than running boost while giving way more power than any cam & still being cheaper than both.

Was there a screw or nail right in the top of the right rear tire when you were down beside it RacerX? I just seen that on here lol we just bought our 2nd Scatty. A 23 Last Call Shaker with the dynamic package. Sublime green, we are absolutely loving it! We used to have a standard hood 21 Scatty Challenger without the dynamic package, man those extra 30 mm of tire out back really help on this one now!

You give short shrift to nitrous. Perhaps a more in depth look at what a 75 - 100 shot of nitrous would do. Seems consensus is that 75-100 is perfectly fine in a 6.4 and a lot less expensive than 30 hp and $4k for a cam or exhaust or $10k for an SC and 6 psi. Everyone already knows the STOCK internals are not up for a 150 hp gain regardless of how you get it. So I would appreciate a video of your assessment of a 75-100 system with a proper tune. Love your videos keep up the great service. Thanks.

If I could do it all over again I would have went that route with a good fuel setup, stray away from a cheap setup for the long haul and they will take a 150 with colder plugs, good fuel mixer 110 octain and a good tune

Catless midpipes from mmx and purchase HP tuners MPVI2 then have Satera tune the ECU and TCU. Purchase the aem x series 030-0334 wideband as well. I added the entire rear AADPERFORMANCE rear billet control arm package and P4D diff brace for peace of mind.

My 19 Scat has the BS 245 tires. How big can we go on the stock rim? Cam seems like the way to go. 30hp is not bad. The problem with all of these is the tune part. Federal law says as a consumer we are allowed to use aftermarket replacement parts. So bolt on an exhaust and we are fine with our warranty. Drop in a hellcat air box. Cool. But slap on things that weren't there like a super charger, or mess with the PCM for a tune and now you have a problem. You just void your warranty for engine related issues.

What about porting and polishing the heads. With that you'll get the extra horse power from the intake, throttle headers and exhaust
@RacerX94 жыл бұрын
The stock heads on these cars actually flow nearly 340 cfm which is incredible. The intakes and throtlebodies are not capable of flowing that much air.. even when they are ported. Dodge did a fantastic job with their head design on these hemis. No perceptible gain to be seen with porting unfortunately

That was my plan, but I let my wife talk me into just wait till it breaks then change it. So my initial plan was to just change the pistons and rods, but WHEN it blows I'll just buy a 426.lol.😅 But it hasn't yet after 6 years.
@DrSloandog4 жыл бұрын
100 octane tune, lightweight wheels such as Billet Specialties and light tires along with some easy weight reduction. That the best ET gains from stock. My $1700 exhaust picked up ZERO ET and MPH. Leave the exhaust alone. I picked up a little with 1 7/8 headers and a little with a ported OEM intake and throttle body. The weight of these cars is what makes the hp advancement seem minimal as far as performance. I ran consistent 11.3 @ 121 with the above tweaks at +250-500 DA. I REALLY wanted to buy ported heads and a good cam, but at the time torque converters weren’t available. I wasnt gonna do any of those without the trifecta.....Cam/heads/converter. I’m sure I’d have been deep in the 10’s. I bought a Hellcat instead.

Great video. Have you tried a 160 or 180 degree thermostat swap in a 6.4? Living in AZ i'm racing my Challenger in a lot of 90 -100+ degree temps so i'm thinking it might be good. Do you think a tune would then be required?
@horderelations40414 жыл бұрын
I live a state east of you, similar temps. The 180 degree works really nice (no tune). I've had no issues so far. This past summer I sat for 45 mins in a wall to wall "parking lot" on the interstate and the temps had to be pushing 140-150 degrees coming off the asphalt. I had the a/c cranked and the temps on the cooling system were business as usual. The biggest difference was the temps at the track... So much nicer keeping the car cooler in the staging lanes and shortened the time to cool off after a pass (More RACING...WOOT!). IMO the 160...(Never seen anyone with that mod) might be too much. You need SOME temp in that car for a boatload of reasons. I don't wanna write a book about it!

Hey RacerX which tires do you recommend on my 2019 scat pack? I have the smaller 245s. Also is it worth adding the shaker package in my car? Also what exhaust do you recommend?
@TheRamblinDude4 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. My 2019 Scat Pack has stock 9" wheels with 245/45/ZR20 tires. I have researched and believe that 274/40/ZR20 tires will fit on the 9" wheels without having to upgrade to 9.5" wheels. The dimensions are 245: 28.7" dia x9.6" width, 275: 28.7" x 10.8". Same diameter, 1.2" wider tire. I have read comments and have seen pictures from Scat Pack owners with the 9.0" rims who put the 275s on them and say they are great. So hey RacerX, what do you think about all this and what do you recommend? I am thinking about going with the 275s on my second set of tires. Thanks!
