I think the 2 best mods for a Scat Pack is Unlocked PCM and a solid tune and liteweight race wheels and tires.

Great video, the best way I found to increase performance of my 2019 R/T was I traded it in for a 2018 ScatPack. I am 59 years old and driven a lot of cars but my 2018 ScatPack is by far my favorite car I have ever driven.

I kinda wish I had my scat back, I traded it in on a Hellcat. I love my Hellcat BUT, the Scat was way more fun driving around town and on country roads. You can use all the power in the scat. You can’t do that in the Hellcat it has to much torque and steps out on you really fast. I’m actually afraid to hit the throttle in the Hellcat. Except on freeways 👍🏽

I remember waaay back when before i knew about cars i went to the philly auto Show and i looked at the cold air intake of a scat pack and i asked my dad if that was the super charger. He laughed for a solid 4 minutes. I mentally face palm when i think about this memory. When you showed the air intake I instantly thought about that.

Thanks RacerX for another awesome video. I put the Pedal Commander on my 19 Scat after I had it nearly 6 months and I personally noticed a big difference. There is definitely NO HP gain but the throttle response is way better.

I put one on and love it. I bought a tune and had Jay Greene tune it when I did this I took off the pedal commander. I noticed right away I no longer had that take off I had with it on so I reinstalled it. Some say it tune you won’t need it. I found out with a tune and pedal commander I’m much happier. Rich I think it depends on which platform you like and your goals .. certainly boosting your car will typically add the most hp but is also expensive.. I love the sound and performance of a well sorted cam 👍.. a solid tune works great on any platform. Those are my baseline big 3

Appreciate your time going over those points. The only thing I've done is the mid muffler delete for the sound. To me, it sounds just as good as a corsa, borla or any other exhaust system for alot less money! I get alot comments on the exhaust and pretty happy with it. But one of the points you've brought out some many times before....is do your research! The Scatpack pretty much comes out of the box for what it was made to do without having to add mods!

My 2018 Scat Pack Shaker 6-speed Challenger made 425 at the wheels stock, on a Dynojet. I put underdrive pulleys, eight horsepower, long tube headers, 10 horsepower, fastman throttle body 6 horsepower, 93 octane aftermarket tune, for a final result of 464 horsepower at the wheels on a Dynojet. For approximately 40 horsepower at the wheels for close to $4,000 with all of the labor the parts and everything Plus unlocked computer. Basically $100 per horsepower. I also hand ported my stock intake myself, basically cleaning up the factory poor casting. I ended up selling the car and buying a Hellcat. Lesson learned.

Where do you live? I'm in Arizona and on a mustang dyno, mine put down 440hp and 413tq, and all I have done is mid muffler delete and k&n drop in filter, mines also a 6spd

@@MrFpsdestroyer I live in Minnesota, stock my car made 425 horsepower and 426 torque. Dynojet 248. Your horsepower is slightly higher and your torque is slightly lower. Sounds like the difference is the dyno not the car, similar numbers overall., my goal was to run an 11-9 with the car, my best was a 12.2. Some better weather and a little more practice on the launch and I think I could have gotten it. Good luck with your 6-speed 392, I really do miss mine because it was so fun to drive on the street.

Thanks for the Video. As a Scat pack owner myself I find the Car right from the factory awesome. I'm an old 80's-90's 1/4 mile guy and loved tuning and making things faster. But this Scat Pack is just awesome right from the factory. I think a good set of tires, maybe the Hellcat Lower air box and tube, a Hell cat filter or even a K&N Drop in and this thing is good to go. My Thinking is if I wanted something faster I would save for a Hellcat. Factory warranty and your stupid fast right out of the box. The Scat pack with the right driver conditions can pull a low 12 high 11 second in the 1/4 mile which to me is amazing and I have to spend almost 10k on my 87 Grand National to pull 11's with it. The Scat pack you even if you run your street tires can drop deep into the 12's. nothing worse then buying mod's that don't add power. Sure you can put a cat back on and get a different sound but honestly the Stock Scat pack Exhaust is simply amazing. It sounds aftermarket. So maybe I'm overly impressed with the Scat Pack coming from Late 80's cars like the Firebird and Grand National. Even the Vettes of my time can't compete with a stock Scat pack. Incredible what you can buy today and how much power these cars have. We live in such good times

RacerX, you're right on regarding these mods that just don't really work. I kinda' see them as snake oil with a little sugar added. I've had Corvettes, Trans Ams, and others, but the Scat Pack has probably the best naturally aspirated engine performance by design from FCA. I have the Hellcat lower airbox and head light tube and Hellcat rims with the Pirelli 275/40 tire. Even though it will still smoke 'em, it does handle a little better with these rims and tires. And as you stated, the Hellcat airbox does indeed drop the IAT and I suspect help keeps down heat soak. I certainly enjoy my Challenger PCP SP! Great vid once again! You and yours be well my friend!

Absolutely right about the intake. I have a 19 scat pack and had an AFE intake. Didn’t feel much of a difference and my intake temps were a lot higher. I sold that and got the hellcat lower air box. It makes the 19 snorkel grille functional and best of all the temps were only 2-3 above ambient. As for exhaust I did the mid muffler delete and it sounds amazing and best of all it’s usually only around 100 bucks. Great video! Subscribed!

just bought me a 2022 Challenger Scat Pack and your videos have been my go-to's for learning a lot about these cars. appreciate how much you put out for us to learn. having said that.... i do have to say i just got a pedal commander and it made a HUGE difference in throttle response making the car much much quicker. and yes people need to understand it does NOT add power, and the word power should not even be in discussion when talking about the pedal commander. it's about a more instant response on your throttle and it really does work so well. but it doesn't do much justice if i cant floor it and have good traction right? so i need to upgrade my tires and would LOVE your opinion on what tires i should get.

Keep in mind these recommendations are if you leave the motor stock. If your gonna swap out a cam and start doing motor work, you will indeed see a benefit from a catback exhaust and long tube headers, and maybe a cai, but at that point your splitting hairs. Nice vid btw!

I definitely agree with you there. For the cold air intake, I did it simply for the sound and look. As for shorty headers, if you own a 5.7 and want shorties, I think the SRT shorties are the best. They're cheaper if you get them used and you get the stainless steal. You will need SRT mid pipes too, which flow better.

I just watched a vid by LHTPerformance and the JLT intake added 10hp on the dyno. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the before/after runs. Shorty headers on the car picked up about 10HP as well but that's a LOT of money and labor for just 10 HP. The cost of headers and labor would cover a good tune.

I agree 100%. Have a 15 Scat Pack. Best and only mod was putting on sticky 275 tires. If I want some serious power upgrades it gonna have to be trading up for a Hellcat.

RacerX X-man- I received my CORSA Sport exhaust and just had it installed today, but I have to be honest- even though I opted for the SPORT over the EXTREME because I didn’t want to go crazy, I’m a bit underwhelmed and thought (expected) it would be a bit louder. Compared to stock and “sport” mode in my RT the Corsa cuts any drone completely out-ZERO drone inside; and honestly I don’t feel/hear a difference much at all now when I hit Sport mode to “activate the exhaust”. Thoughts? I respect you and your opinions as always--

Just got a PC, I'm automatically a fan of anything that gives me more control, I'll like it no matter what for that. However not a fan of the higher settings they're too hard to modulate. Right now I'm digging city -1, I suspect I'll even go eco at times for slick weather.

That being said, I disagree with a couple of your assertions: * a cold air intake will add a small amount of horsepower (i.e., a few units) and torque (i.e., a few pound feet) on the dyno (i.e., volume and speed of of airflow is directly proportional to power output), [ inherent assumption - filter must be high flow, such as "Green Filter", "K&N", etc., and air/sound baffle box must be removed. ] * a cold air intake also adds a beautiful note to the exhaust (i.e., a throaty, muscular, V8 zound), and * a cat back exhaust (i.e., with a larger than stock pipe diameter, and with Mandrel type bends) will add a small amount of horsepower (i.e., a few units) and torque (i.e., a few pounds feet) on the dyno (i.e., volume and speed of airflow is directly proportional to power output). [ inherent assumption - the muffler must have high flowing and free flowing characteristics. ] Let us assume that both of the above add 5 to 10 wheel horsepower and 10 to 15 wheel pound feet. When is a bit of extra horsepower and a bit of extra torque a disadvantage? Again, thank you for this nice video. :)

Never have I took off my pedal commander !!! Pedal commander makes a huge difference on my scat!! Totally worth it 100% ! Racer X you need to get one and test it on the scat and you’ll see how good it actually is!!! Oh and I run E85 on my scat and I gained up too 70 HP on the dyno. Scat running 500 to the wheel and 560 to the crank, not bad at all! So I recommend e85 with a good tune and a pedal commander for sure💪🏻 God bless🙏🏻

We put the hellcat lower airbox and a k&n drop in filter on our '20 Challenger RT Scat Pack....awesome mod. IAT's are usually within 5 degrees of ambient temps. Just did this install in February, so I'm not sure how much the temps will vary once the ambient temps are 90 or 100. We took it to a car show a couple weeks ago, the temp in the morning was about 62, iat was 65.

Agree 100% on all your recommendations. The Hemis just don’t have the compression like a Coyote Ford to take advantage of the E85. My old Scat Pack hauled ass with none of those “Don’t Do” mods. I’ve told people only buy the exhaust if you just want it to sound better. No power their either. This video is super important to new Scat Pack owners..... GREAT ADVICE!!!!

I got bbk shorty headers. And I also had them ported. They did make a difference. I looked at the ports on the stock headers and they definitely need to be ported.

All good points. I have an intercooled procharger on my 392 and gained 200 hp with stock bottom end. 6psi installed 2016 four years and 12k miles later no issues.

@@jaredmorgan5007 as long as you don't exceed 6psi gross boost you should not have problems. You can probably run a smaller pulley and gain 2 more psi and probably another 6 wrhp but now you are putting more stress on it so the more you run it hard the more problems you will have.

I got the Pedal Commander on my 21 Scat Pack and liking it so far. I hate the delay in the gas pedal. I can at least take that out or minimize it. However, I've had a few times that the pedal is a bit touchy and lay a small patch taking off. lol Good video.

I'm in the process of ordering a 392 Challenger Scat Pack Widebody w/ rear seat delete. The only mods I'm doing to it are having the dealer install SRT paddle shifters, hood pins, front & rear shock tower braces, and swap out the 305 P-Zeros for 315 Continental Extreme Contact Sports. I'm also dropping in a K&N air filter and getting quad exhaust tips fitted... and that's it.

I think the only thing, performance wise, to do to your exhaust is cat less mids, and replace the stock xpipe with an aftermarket x pipe, or a H-pipe. Even then not sure if you’d pick up any serious hp? The stock mufflers and reso’s are straight thru so no improving on that! Great vid bro 👍

I am glad you pointed out that an exhaust doesn’t add any real power just sound the only other thing is the throttle body doesn’t make a difference either in my 5.7 doing long tube a cam and a engine and transmission tune makes all the difference love your video keep em comming

Only good Mod for exhaust is a mid muffler delete and put in a X Pipe in its place... That mid muffler weighs like 35 pounds and is a little restrictive for power and sound. Thats the only Mod I would recommend.

You are 100% correct on everything. I've seen it myself on the dyno. These cars are legit from the factory. People will spend money to mod their cars and tell themselves its faster to justify the cost...but it's really not.

I pretty much left my '17 scat alone. Only bigger throttle body, mopar cold air intake, tires and muffler chip. Best car I ever own. A blast to drive on freeways and back windy roads.

I can vouch for the pedal commander. It does help with reaction and is highly adjustable, but it's dangerous. Twice the thing made me throw a code and cut power. The second time I almost got creamed by a big diesel...there won't be a third time. Take my advice, the things are dangerous and not worth it. And they do not back their customers. I was ignored when I contacted them...

you are 100% right, all the pedal commander does it changes the multiplier on the signal to the throttle body. to explain faster it ONLY changes the throttle response. When you press the gas pedal the pedal commander allows you to adjust the amount of pedal you have to push to open the throttle body to a certain %. when you change it to sport + all you have to do is push the pedal half way (for example) to open full throttle, but it sure does NOT give you more power. It DOES feel better though, I have it on my Silverado. The throttle feels wayyyyy more responsive.

My 2017 scat: I have 275s tires, 85mm throttle body, mopar cold air intake, bullet technology oil catch, corsa extreme cat back exhaust and tazer. Perfect daily driver. Just simple and plain mods. Leaving it at that. Best car I've ever own.

great informative video, is very much appreciated, i have a 2015 SRT 392 and i love it, i have put a pedal commander in it and i have to agree with you that it does not add horsepower but the pedal response is on tap and is crazy , car accelerates faster coming out of the line, i have also added a tazer , mid muffler delete and i dont know what else to add to gain some power without braking the bank, everything for this cars is expensive , but i love my SRT and not getting rid of it any time soon, great video keep it up. im in houston by the way...stay safe.....

As far as the Pedal Commander... agree too many failures. I went with the Sprint Booster and as you have stated that it doesn't make it faster but with the lag of the electronic throttle response reduced or eliminated (based on the settings) you do end up getting up to speed faster. The best I was able to do 0-60 in my Scat before the Sprint Booster was 4.3s and now I'm down to 3.9s.
