I have a 2000 Heritage I put 16" apes on...I'm 6'4"...I am more comfy on this bike than our 2016 Ultra Limited (that I put 14" apes on) and can ride my Heritage for 8 hour days back to back and have no pain. I LOVE how I can strip the windshield and bags off in 2 mins. (quick release bag kit is golden) and I got a town bike/cruize night bike...and then I can put shield and bags on....load up and even throw on a backpack...and I can live off the Heritage for a week traveling and camping. Mine is a carb bike with V+H pipes....nothing sounds as good as the 'loping' of a carb at idle with a nice loud set of pipes! (to me) I've ridden on the street for 40 years this year. I've owned a Harley since 1989....the 2000 Heritage I have set up now is by far the best bike I have ever had. I'll keep it forever. (oh, and those who bemoan the cam-tensioners just don't know....or haven't been around long enough....heck, we used to have to tear down and tighten the valves after every 2000 miles! Maintenance should be a part of every rider's journey (again, to me)

I've always loved the look of the Heritage. Our rental years ago was the beginning of many bikes bought since. Last year I bought Yamaha TW200 and missed not being able to take my wife along. I almost bought a like new Heritage a few days prior but felt I best go for a ride first and try one locally. A few days later I happened to pass by the local HD dealership and decided to take a 2021 Heritage (w/shield) for a test ride. It was now or never. Absolutely gorgeous! The helmet turbulence was HORRIBLE and I was seeing double in short order. The entire bike vibrated. I couldn't return this fast enough. I've owned almost all large touring bikes and none rode this badly. My dual sport was SO much smoother and I have zero helmet buffeting. I was shocked. That has ended my quest for any Heritage, no matter how great they look. Maybe this is why there are so many for sale with so few miles. Wasn't that many years ago I could still ride 25k miles/year.

Sean, like the word "Deer", it is "Heritage" (flock of Heritage, or gaggle of Heritage, I don't know which)... No "s" and no other changes needed. My two cents. I have a 1997 Heritage Springer and I am 6', 220 lbs. The bike is cramped in the foot to floor board area. The newer bikes, like this one, have more foot room. Leg room is also cramped on the Evo Heritage. Heritage are good for winter or summer. Slow, but good looking for winter garage smiles, in snow country..

Ever since I first started riding 1972 I've always felt safer on a heavier bike. I wouldn't hesitate starting on a softail. Take the motorcycle safety foundation course you will learn a ton. Then you get the cert to get your licence, all in one basket!! Then take your time learning. Practice for a bit every time you get on it. You'll be good to go! It becomes a part of you! Good luck!

Raven R I never could adjust the buffeting properly, I'll admit. Pain in the butt riding when they get dirty and balancing at low speeds and high wind tight u turns. However, more importantly, sitting with just the handlebars in front of you with nothing else also reminded me of the passage, "he mounted a cherub and flew". I've never seen the cherub he flew, but from what I visualise the handlebars resonate as to where he held and the windshield doesn't.
