I remember playing this game in the mid 2000's for years on the official servers. It was the best gaming experience for me out there to this date. Lineage had it all, politics, treason, clans, wars, castle sieges, lots of shit going on in the community. I loved how you pretty much had to have a strategy to be someone in this game, to control a castle, to obtain allies, to have power. Even at the cost of betrayal. I loved how enemies had spies and they were reporting where we are farming or leveling and they ambushed us. I loved how people betrayed their clan leaders and told the enemy our strategy for the castle siege. But they didn't know that they have our spies in their lines and we already know that the info was given out and we had a completely new plan we executed and won. Hundreds of people were yelling on teamspeak, it was soooo satisfying. No other game gave me this feeling. I was playing at the time where the biggest legends of this game were playing. And I also played with some of them. Name a few, Dvp who was then sentenced for jail as he killed one of the guys in real life at a meeting from the enemy team. If I recall correctly, he offended his girlfriend and he punched him so hard, he never recovered. Yup it escalated that much from game to real life. Kaganpwnz was my favorite, and the best pvper imo. And many many more. Damn this video makes my hearth bleed. Seeing what my favorite game back then has become. A fully pay to win shit fest full of bots. But also, fck I am old it was 15 years ago !

Massive Hordes of Bots ruined the Game long time ago. i quit about 4 or 5 years ago at lv100 lol. P2W shop events ruined it even more. Spend a few thousends to get a +16 Weapon and have the God mode vs Normal Players.

Man... This was so many years ago for me and it was the best gaming experience i've ever had. I'll never forget about it all, I was curious about your topic and gets me hard 'cause back in the day it was a full gaming experience for most of us. Every chronicle prior to that GoD roll out was a masterpiece. You had to be good with your online, be punctual, communicate well, be knowledgeable about game and people, learn new stuff. I've met a lot of cool folks and experienced many memorable moments. From casual c2/c3 private serves to upper echelon, fighting top parties at one of the official servers, that was a nice ride. Tho real life (girlfriend + I didn't want to be one of those college dropouts who played games instead of studying) combined with shitty updates, when la2 decided to become Korean wow, marked the end of my teenage era I've spend with this game. You know they say it is not about the game, this is about people in it. I wonder if it ever was so true about any other MMO title. I still have few old friends I've met in this game who is playing on la2 classic server as a top-tier party, tho unfortunately it is impossible for me to fulfill that nostalgic feelings, as I simply don't have 6+ hours a day to play video games due to my personal life and just simple health concerns. Plus I moved to the opposite part of the globe now, so our time difference is around 8 hours now.

@@Clobberstomped Well, there always was two types of environment that rarely interacted with each other. I didn't play la2 for a long time, so i'm not sure how it is right now, but my assumption would be this: 10 years ago this game still attracted a lot of fresh blood and more casual players, therefore you would get those who was playing more casually, and those top clans where everything was about your const party. Only you and other 8 people mattered. And your job was to get as much exp and loot to become better than other top-tier parties. Grind, pvp for grind, pvp for epics, olymp farm. At the same time casual and new players didn't care about that stuff as much, they didn't go to top spots, didn't fight for major epics, didn't care about good castles (I remember how we almost captured innadril castle with 14 men, vs 100+ casual guys). A lot of them didn't have regular party members. They've been that kind of friendlier and nicer dudes who was rather looking for company than illusive domination. But nowadays the second type of players are probably non-existing, as only few people would start playing Classic in 2019, and even less going to stick to it. And that other half who want to be at the top, they were always kinda toxic towards other players. As a result you see a lack of that good old friendly folks we used to encounter every day. Just my assumption ;)

This game opened the world of travels for me! Meeting my fellow friends in reallifes was best reason i do not regret a bit of wasted time on game instead of doing math. Dont use math barely. But learned it well enough while doing lineage2 to help me sufficiently in life. Anyway, This is magnificent game

Lineage 2 was awesome. When I was in my early teens I played it all the time. I remember a market crash where nobody had money but every body had items. The prices went so down, I was really bummed out that I recently bough some A grade armor and was without cash :P Great memories and great people. Good to know the game still operates, albeit there are no crowds anymore.

I played on private servers mostly, and retail for a time back in 2010/2011 or so. The best time was on retail though, private servers have toxic communities and donators that you can't compete with. With that said, this game will remain a memory though as I have no intentions to play it again.

I play L2 Classic since start on October but my friends left bored for many things (reach lvl 50). Now i'm a casual player who still love this game since 2005. I joined to INERA and Clobber's clan because he create a clan for people who play for fun, maybe we can at some point fight a castle or a Raid if more people are motivated to try this server and join the clan :)

x10/x20 servers seems to be the sweet spot. fast enough to get to 80 quickly, but slow enough that it's not a wild PVP server with no regards to XP loss. they all still fall for the same problem tho: overinflated economy, due to excessive farming, due to abnormal gear at low levels, due to starter packs, due to donations. the gameplay of L2 is balanced from the start: it's a classic rock/paper/scissors mechanic, every character has a counter, but a counter which some people never play, because there's no point, because donations render them useless. namely: elders (useless when there's a free supply of potions), warsmiths (useless with a GM shop), spoilers (useless with increased drop rate), dancers and prophets (useless with GM buffer), warlocks/warcryers (useless with GM teleport), overlords (useless with free CP potions). everyone is a dagger, a spellhowler, or a gladiator.... everywhere. if you want a pure PVP server (like a x1000, all GM, no farming) fine! they're still playable! but spot those problems and fix them! otherwise it's gonna be full of the same classes, because they'd be broken AF!

i've always used to think like that, midrate servers (i mean 10,15, even 30) are the best for all the reasons u've mentioned still, last time when i've tried to find such server to try out, was hard to find good midrate without some npc buffers and all additional custom bullcrap like this (gmshops ain't a rarity either), which bothers me because it makes buffer classes even more unwanted than they were normally on midrates but even after having said all that, my personal best choice is to stick to official classic servers, partially because i think it's a decent "chronicle", which is still constantly in development, and also due to the fact i'm tired of changing servers every few months (which is a thing, that applies to most private servers) i like having an option to take a break from the game anytime i want, and come back to it after any period of time, knowing the server is still running and my character with all my stuff is still there

The problem is many of us slightly older gamers will never get times like these back Again, games are just different now, we are older, the younger generations of gamers like different Things to what we had, our games to us will always be superior, where as now everythings been done already, I was there for the Beta's of diablo 1 and 2, lineage 2, myth of soma, World of warcraft to name a few, and it was an amazing experience, but since then no new game has felt as good as those were. I think it's just a natural thing that comes with age and experience where everything was new, now a game only has to be out a few days and Theres already guides and tutorials online on how to beat it. I've pretty much hung up my gamers hat now, but i do miss those times, and i know i can never get them back, i am going to try wow Classic when that comes out but i know it won't be anything like it used to, because we didn't know everything back then.Oh well thats my nostalgic rant over :)

Yeah, I remember the first time I had to do the lvl 40 class quests...fk me was it shite when you had no clue what to do and no one to help you do it, I was one of the first few dozen people probably on the eu servers with my elven knight trying to be a sword singer ( shite choice at the time but loved it later ) But for some reason back then the difficulty and vastness of it all made the game better, I had to shout around and find quite a large group of willing people just going about their business to help me so I could do it, when complete we all posed for a victory shot :)

In my opinion of the 3 options you showcased, the most "attractive" option is playing on Classic It isnt really a "classic" server but is a nice version anyway, post lvl 20 you really get to live the hardship of past versions, and since the servers are "new" the economy and population are in the sweet spot that almost everyone loves.

I play on Godworld right now. It's a Russian server but we have international people too. It has the latest Fafurion chronicles. It's basically a pvp server with x1000 rates. The reason I love this server is because you don't need to donate to get your gear. Donating is possible but you can buy the dono currency with in-game currency for almost 1:1 exchange ratio. It would take about 6 months of extensive playing to reach max gear, which is basically just filling your brooche with jewels (that's the most expensive thing on that server). Reaching end-game in the latest chronicle is so much fun imo. The game is very fast paced and skill based as opposed to casting a skill for 10 years in l2 classic lol.

lineage 2 classic isn't a true comeback to what it was in the earliest chronicles (1, 2, 3, 4, etc), and that's kinda what people get wrong about it :D it's more lika a reboot of the game, where devs came back to what it was about in first chronicles and made it to follow a bit different path of development it has some very annoying flaws, but i kinda like it, it looks a bit like they're trying to pick all the best stuff from pre-god and post-god era on live versions of the game, with few unique additions (like weapon SA system rework for example)

The short answer is: No. I played this game throughout my childhood and teenage years and absolutely loved it. I did join the new classic from day one and leveled up my BD to 52, crafted first Katana*Katana on the server and subsequently sold the account. Unfortunately, NCSOFT did not learn from past mistakes and decided to have no protections against players using 3rd party softwares. The game in general is very different, with a large proportion of the player base focused on adena selling and buying and capitalising it for an IRL cash. Sad, but unfortunately, I did finally say adios to L2. Probably forever.

The downfall of L2 for me began from C4 chronicle. It is obvious over powered gear brought this game to great disbalance and it is simply not fun when someone who plays unhealthy hours can kill entire party of people with lesser equipment. Developers should have stopped just by A grade items and make them hard to obtain, with every new chronicle bring new sets, enchantments etc. but with no OP attributes so when you have sieges, clan wars, pvps you are not killed or kill someone in two hits. Miss old school L2, would love to play C1-C3 chronicles again

Top players in the official servers have spend between 100 - 300k dollars it's just insane how they monetized and ruined the game, it all went downhill when it went free bots were EVERYWHERE and then they had to add paid items unobtainable by farming aka botting. Paid monthly subscription was the best way the game could exist.

Unless however it was built from the ground up with the free to play model in place. Guild Wars 2 does very well and I feel it has really good things in the store not related to gaining advantage over other players.

@@Clobberstomped There are many ways to get out of this hole but NCSoft went the easy way with event items only obtainable from the store and stuff like that, but luckly the L2Classic in NA works pretty good servers are almost always on medium load and the only things in the store u can get are xp boosts and cosmetics they kinda learned their lesson.

Hello everyon. I'm going to make a few corrections to Clobberstomp's video: First: IT'S TOTALLY PAY TO WIN. EVEN THE CLASSIC SERVERS. Second: It's just full of farming bots. The in game experience is totally ruined by them. You can't just go somewhere and start farming or doing whatever the F you want, nope, bots will be there every single time occupying any decent spot in the entire L2 world. Third: DON'T PLAY IT. The game is dead (or soon will be if they keep taking this path). NCSoft is by far the worst gaming company ever. They shit over it's users every single chance they get. It's like if they intentionally fuck it up every time things seems to start going a little better. And they never listen to the community. NEVER EVER DID OR WILL DO. I'm done with them. I strongly advice anyone NOT to play it. Don't fall for it, you'll waste your time.

It's really possible to find a private server that is alive and well.. that is not possible to buy items that will give you any adventage. That also ban bots. But it can be hard to find that kind of server, which you also are happy being in. Eg I would like a x15 Hi5.

I would say just 1 thing: ok its P2W already but even if you spend like 50e every 2-3 months (not that much if you think) and save the adena you get through it, you can slowly get strong too and well NcSoft fcked up many things after making the American server from private to truly free and they still do and will always do ^^ The real thing is finding nice persons to play with and if you are lucky and have a nice Clan Leader (nice in the meaning that he is smart too ofc) you can even effort a castle like ToA did on Naia. We get attacked from DH or MAX too sometimes, less to say about iPeppinios hits those are too much with that Valakas Caster xD, but we still have that castle already since 1-2 months. ToA is just a Mid-Big clan, dont have all members like those other 2 clans which have dragon weaps +16 armors brooch at max etc etc but just need to be smart some little times and know how to do the pts (if have CPs in clan let them play toghether ofc, would be no sense to divide them :P) and how to position the pts :) Greets from Naia :D

Inera was great on perspective, but in the end the server was launched with so many contradictory points. ( for example: it was supposed to be a way slower pace than S1, yet 5 days into the server people already had Vesper, the server had 0 indenty and didnt know what it wanted to be on the end) I have no doubts the staff tried their best but they overlook so many things, sometimes listening to the vocal toxic minority does that.... Nowadays the server is a shell of itself, you only have a few little groups of people and some solo players vs the russians who take adventage of the soft punishments the staff does for things like botting for example (48 hs ban for that is ridiculous, isnt a lvl 40 player who just started to play, is a person who know that botting is not permited and was botting for a LONG period of time. Botting should be a insta-permaban of all accounts on the same IP do discourage it) and run rampant doing whatever they want (including mooooore botting) since nobody can stop them, and to make it worse they keep asking for changes on the server to favour them knowing they are the only "big group" to keep playing and keeping the server "alive" And after last season unbanning of a "permabanned" character (probably the point where i lost my percived view of "professionalism" on Inera staff), wich BTW is part of the same group of people who keep botting now, im afraid they will obligue and make some changes just to please them (like i said, listening to vocal toxic minority instead of the greater good) It was a fun run, but the fact that the server is right now in the same state that it was on the mid of S1, but only a month after the opening S2 is sadening (i doubt the 50 ppl required amount of people to start blood royale will be meet to give and example) At least you Clobber can go for the Fortune Seeker Hero position now, so isnt all bad news! (also i know you cant agree with more of what i said since is like allying with someone whos calling your friend bad names, you're Inera advocate here and i respect that)

Hahah if you think that you are going to collect adena by killing mobs, you are wrong. This game is very market oriented and basically you have to work your ass out, craft items and kill bosses in order to be able to pile up some cash. You can't have just one character in this game, a spoler is a must and a crafter is preferable.

Live servers have been dead since classic released, and they haven't been worth playing since they released brooches anyway. You could argue that it went p2w when ncsoft did the destruction scroll promotion, however when brooches were released that is when the game really started to tank. Also the economy is so screwed up because they screwed up with fishing awhile back, adena flooded the servers and then they removed all drops and fixed the fishing thing to try and drain adena from the economy. You can still farm adena in high level zones but prices are still skewed. Classic is worth playing, it was never meant to actually be a remake of C1/2/3 which is apparently what a lot of people thought it was supposed to be. It's supposed to be a throw back to pre GoD with QoL changes to many classes. Leveling really is not difficult with the daily quests that give xp scrolls, if you can get to 35, you can get to 60 with minimal effort, it might just take awhile. Private servers seem to not be as abundant as they used to be, but there are several bigger ones now that use some sort of official files rather than l2j. I'd say either play some form of official classic or go private, let chronos/naia die in peace.

I miss l2 sea server but i don't want to play it again if ever goes online again its been almost 10 yrs since our retail server closed..yes we are all bot in the l2sea but experience back then the castle siege, world chat hero trashtalks, grand oly trashtalks, mass pvp trashtalks and the non stop grinding...lvl85 maestro, lvl83, duelist,lvl85 fortune seeker,lvl80 eva's saint, lvl80 prophet(cant remember the name of 3rd job) and name of my main maestro is blossome i may not be the strongest dwarf but i got the highest p.def,hp and cp 40k for hp and 20k for cp and a +28 mechanic golem.........miss those party

@@Clobberstomped L2 retail sucked that is why it was never popular. When the full retail version got leaked in 2006 most of the bugs got easily fixed. The leveling on a retail was close to impossible without a walker (pretty much cheats).

Who would want to play the live servers of lineage 2 nowadays... Being p2w is the least of its problems right now. It just doesn't feel like lineage 2 anymore. It looks unfamiliar. I prefer playing c4-c6 or classic private servers with a solid cp. Much closer as an experience to what I used to live in l2 10-13 years ago.

I played 2004 to 2009, I would never play it again. I can get nostalgic all over the place but it was always a garbage game even if I enjoyed torturing myself documenting all of the quests and such. But man, listening to the Giran music really brings back some memories.

The economy of Lineage 2 was ruined by the bots. For over a decade now, innumerate amounts of botting parties roamed the servers collecting adena and item drops to build up massive banks of money which they would then sell to players for irl cash. This flooded the market with so much money that it became acceptable to charge outlandish prices for goods. But unfortunately, players had to buy into the corrupt system in order to play. My family and I bought hundreds of millions of adena a couple times in order to buy our higher grade gear. The whole thing was carried out like a drug sale, all secretive and shady at the monster race track and I felt extremely dirty participating in it. Eventually the game developers tried to solve the issue with a number of different solutions. The path of awakening started awarding players sets of gear when they reached level milestones so they didn’t have to buy illegal adena to continue their progression. A bot report button was added to the actions menu, but the amount of bots was too much for that to help. I even spent some time myself as a vigilante of sorts, pking any bot party I saw (spending much of my time as a red named chaotic character as a result. Even put a title over my head: Bot Killer) Finally, they cut the money drops down to almost nothing. Now the only worthwhile amount of money you can make is from quest rewards. Even spoilers these days find it tough to make money because the spoil rate has been dropped so low that you can kill hundreds of mobs with only seeing numbers in the single digits turn blue to harvest items from. This is much lower than it was in the past. (I know because I watched my mother main a spoiler starting in chronical 3, leveling it painstakingly slow before all the level boost quests were a thing, taking it all the way to level 87) Unfortunately, the damage has been done and the L2 economy cannot bounce back. Casual players like myself can still enjoy the game utilizing the free gear that the game provides, but we can never hope to be a top pvp player in the game’s current state. When L2 went free to play, the bot usage went from bad to worse. And it’s current state of shepherding players on the fast track to awakening, not even allowing basic chat or pming before you reach level 85, only alienates players from each other, making it more likely that they will fall for these shady adena salesmen. I love Lineage 2 and will still play it, but I confirm that a player unwilling to spend real life money will not be able to be a top player. If only they had a way of letting volunteers serve as a bot police force. I would kick/ban every bot in the major hunting zones. It wouldn’t solve the economy issue, but at least players could grind in peace then.

I just dont know..why bots problem cant be solved in any old school games. You just name it, Ragnarok, Lineage 2. I dont care about people selling currency like gold. That thing happened in WoW now. Everyone okay with that since if you put your dedication in that game, you will be able to finish at top level even your competitor pays for dungeon runs with real money and buy gold for everything ( imo, you dont need to buy gold in WoW or buy dungeon runs since if you have a free time to do that..you will competitive enough ). I think, there is some internal affair in game like Lineage 2 or Ragnarok. Publisher selling bots lines for players is the shit that happened in official Ragnarok Online in Indonesia. I guess...same shit does happened in Lineage 2.

They increased the grinding to a level where the game pretty much forces you to play the entire game with EXP BOOST SCROLLS. It's so scummy move that it literally makes me want to burn the entire game down for how greedy it is. The people who run the servers and make the decisions are not listening to their community at all. They sit all day thinking about how they can abuse the in-game store system more.
