To anybody thinking about playing Anomaly - take your time to look through the settings, there is a lot of quality of life stuff disabled by default, including: fast travel to visited locations or to manually placed backpack stashes (use with care, it will let you teleport even to locations where enemies have respawned), vanilla minimap in the corner (for people who don't know every location by heart), vanilla fullscreen PDA (for people who use it a lot to remember where to go and what to do), option to skip the animation of looting mutants (which gets old & annoying somewhere around mutant #5). Also, treat the "progression difficulty" less as a difficulty option and more of a flavor option. While higher difficulties are objectively more difficult due to less loot, higher prices and lower quest rewards, the easy difficulty allows you to more or less buy whatever equipment you want, try out lots of weapons & armors, not pay as much attention to the repair & upgrade system, and overall have a more dynamic & faster paced experience. This option is much better for multiple playthroughs, or shorter play sessions, or if you generally don't have a lot of time to play, offering the best time/enjoyment ratio. The high progression difficulty basically requires you to engage with the maintenance & upgrade systems due to technicians being prohibitively expensive, craft as much equipment yourself as possible, almost never buy weapons & armor and repair looted ones instead. It slows the game down a lot, severely restricts where you can go (especially early on), but also creates this very engaging dynamic of "what are the strongest enemies I can realistically whack with my current equipment?", where you start off hunting weak mutants & bandits with your shitty starting gear, eventually loot & repair a pump shotgun and a nice pistol or maybe even a basic rifle, gear up to hunting stronger mutants & military stalkers, maybe some mercenaries here and there, repair your first armored suit & assault rifle, then start poking around mid-late game areas to fight some strong mutants & Monolith, eventually waging systematic extermination of entire Monolith-controlled locations to hunt for specific weapons & gear. The progression is very slow, but very engaging. It's very exciting to find a cool weapon in an absolutely destroyed state, fully repair & upgrade it, you start feeling very attached to those guns & armors. Very cool experience, if you are into this sort of thing, and have the time & patience.

@StalkerQtya7 ай бұрын
@@kordroll1955 It doesn't makes much sense in the OG games either. You are in the #1 country of armaments Black Market in Europe, and no one is able to buy some old soggy ass AK-47? Most of the guns Shadow of Chernobyl offers you at the start are actually harder to find. It's just game design philosophy and it works, because the OG stalker games are not meant to be milsims. But when you get to make a milsim, forcing this artificial boundary on the player for gameplay's sake just breaks immersion, then excusing it that it has anything to do with common sense or logic is just plain stupid.
@kordroll19557 ай бұрын
@@StalkerQtya well, expecting logic from a video game based on fictional book is already stupid. I'm just saying if player can get equipment so easily than why NPCs doesn't have it. I'm not talking about main character bs from CoP, CS or SoC where player is "one man army". In GAMMA you are just a regular stalker so fact that regular stalker (player) can get much better equipment than other regular stalkers (NPCs) in less than a week is quite ridiculous
@StalkerQtya7 ай бұрын
@@kordroll1955 That's game balance thing and you have to count on the game will be a game to some point. I say, that arguing about OG game stalkers not advancing and getting better gear is due to the game not being an overly realistic milsim, but a game with a clear progress-route in mind from the devs, that you should not be able to get high-end gear at the starting zone and very few NPC's should have gear what could make the game overly difficult at the start to you or offer a way to give the player mid-game gear right off the start. Similar problem you can find in Fallout 4, where Bethesda just drops you a fully functional, pre-war power armour at the beginning of the game and keeps throwing at you pre-war weapons, making makeshift power armour and pipe weapons meaningless. GAMMA does not make sense. They have a very clear definition of forcing the player to scavenge and engage with the crafting system, to make the game harder and slow down progress. That's it. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to just do regular Anomaly route and if you want to spend more money just to avoid crafting do that. The mod would be perfectly fine without the forced crafting system. And it's not even an optional feature, it's built into the mod and you can not turn it off.

I've grown to absolutely love the weapon/armor repair system in GAMMA. At first, I didn't have a single clue what to do, I really hated that I found a sick ass gun, but simply couldn't use it. So, after hours upon hours of research and hundreds of hours of time played, I love it. It is really intricate and not at all beginner friendly, but the feeling of finding a RD-9x39 and a SVDS, stowing them away, finding Expert tools, crafting an Advanced weapong repair kit, finding the necessary weapong parts, repairing those parts and finally assembling a truly deadly weapon set-up is beyond rewarding.

Im not purist for one side or the other but I definitely see where people are coming from when they say how anomaly/gamma deviates from the traditional STALKER feel and I tend to agree more so on Gamma given I feel its just a little over bloated in terms of the mechanics, weapons, systems, and some of the devs decisions it introduces, but both experiences have their fans and anyones within their right to enjoy STALKER however they wish. Personally prefer base anomaly given how modular it can be and I can just pick and choose what I want to install, as I like some of the more survival oriented mods that I feel deepen some of the mechanics already present in STALKER but appreciate how much more limited it is in terms of weapons and gear as I feel it fits better with the authenticity of the setting and the OG games.

GAMMA is hella fun man. The crafting system is for sure a lot at first, basically requiring the player to spend at least an hour or 2 just learning it. But once you do, the game and progression makes sense and it's fairly balanced. Most of the earlygame you will have shitty old weapons, usually the starting SKS until you can get a decent shotgun or sniper. Then you bump up armor, or maybe get an AK. It really makes you feel like ur just another STALKER in the zone, trying to get by.
@Apoxias11 ай бұрын
I completely agree. The crafting system in GAMMA seems overwhelming at first glance, but once you realize it clearly tells you what you need to craft each and every thing you want, as well as going as far to highlight anything you are carrying, the vendor is selling, or you have in your stash that is related to that crafting, the experience becomes so much easier. It gives a real sense of satisfaction when you manage to repair a gun you've had your eye on using or a great armor you found and been working towards repairing, much more so than just slaving away at missions for a couple hours until you've collected enough money to buy a full set of gear.

At the end of the day, play however you want. enjoy games however you want. they are all valid.
@Kebab13611 ай бұрын
20:00 @Owen Kung you can change it manually tho. In GAMMA it's easier as there are sliders in mod options that allow you to precisely set what can be the top gear quality from various stalker ranks you kill, but there already exists a file somewhere there, a simple .txt file you can edit and input the values between 0.0 and 1.0 to describe the quality of stuff they will drop. Note that it's not something set in stone, it just pushes the span higher up, in GAMMA i set it up in a way that rookies still drop same shit, but i set it to slowly proggress with ranks up to the master stalkers dropping stuff between 85 and 95% quality i believe? Don't remember correctly but around 90% - again, same as you i like being rewarded accordingly. But another thing i think is priceless in GAMMA is how it handles fixing weapons and armors itself, as you can make your own workbench, disassemble guns and armors down to the basic parts, and a 30% gun can have everything totaled but a 90% basically pristine barrel, or a good trigger mechanism, and you can use these good parts when fixing a weapon you want to use, where 7.62 barrels will match other 7.62 guns etc. My run went like this: hoard guns, strip them, take everything above 50% and stash it, sell or dispose of everything below 50%, as above 50% guns are still somewhat repairable with various repair kits that you can find or buy, and it's much, MUCH less costly than paying 10000000 RU for fixing the gun, when you can just take the gun you want to fix, replace broken parts with better or even good ones (you can fix separate parts too to some extent, pushing that 90% part to 100% part is easy and it reflects on the overall gun %), and then when ending up with a gun that went from 15% to 85% fixing it once with an expensive repair kit, then going for the small repair kit, then using once the expensive cleaner, then the cheap cleaner and at 98% you just use stuff like cheap oil or straight up duct tape and get that pristine 100% gun for free. Manage the usage of repair kits, some repair guns that are 40%, some only work above 60, some 70 and so on, so using a heavy repair kit that works at 50 and lower on a gun that's 78 is a waste, when it's cheaper to find or buy some cheaper kit, some oils, lubricants, grease, cleaning solvants, duct tape or straight up loose screws.
@Pebbleguy11 ай бұрын
2:00 I'm gonna be honest, the "too tactical" thing is just a nitpick. The heart of the problem is the fact that Anomaly & its modpacks has started to literally OVERSHADOW the original trilogy. Also there are some Anomaly/GAMMA/EFP fans that have a habit of just disrespecting the original trilogy by acting like it doesn't exist or is so terrible its worth skipping. Anomaly/GAMMA/'EFP are all good mods but their design philosophies are totally different beasts from GSC's design philosophy. GSC focused on creating a story driven game with simple mechanics for the trilogy. Anomaly devs and its modpack devs focused on creating a survival sandbox with more complexity to the vanilla mechanics and additional mechanics not present in the trilogy.

Here's some tips for gamma, in terms of weapon repairing. Mechanics and such begin to sell weapon repair kits when you give them toolkits. These repair kits can be exclusively used to repair your weapons, no need to field strip if you have these, as if one is in your inventory you can right click your weapon, click 'maintain parts' and you can outright replace broken parts of your weapon while getting some cleanliness back for total condition. This makes weapon repairs even easier than anomaly, AND cheaper, assuming you give toolkits to your mechanics. Also, you can do this in the field, no need go to a bench.

And sitting down around a campfire in town, filling the stomach while hearing the other Stalkers chat about who knows what. And you chug a couple beers, as it starts getting dark, one of your Stalker pals pulls out a guitar and starts playing, and you stay around because going out at night without NVG is suicidal, and you aren't that sleepy yet, you probably still have to spend a few more minutes there just to heal anyway so why not just chill a bit more? Might be the last time you can until who knows when. It's great, it does have a hard learning curve (even harder if you are as dumb as me and try learning while doing ironman runs) but there's no other game like it. I would've loved it even more if somehow GAMMA managed to integrate F.E.A.R. AI behaviour into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but that's just personal wishing tbh.

There isn't a bar that shows your current radiation, that is what you need a geiger-counter for. Otherwise it'll show a flashing white radiation icon, which means you are irradiated. If it's flashing grey-ish, that means that you have an "anti-Radiation effect" working on yourself.

Video is nice! I put a lot of hours into Anomaly. The mentality by me was... first (vanila Anomaly) "This game is hard..." then, when l got used to it, l was "how can l make this harder?!" haha. For Fast Travel, you need to turn that on in the options, by gameplay. You can set it to "all available" or "visited only". There is also "backpack fast travel" where you make a FT point via your backpack... l think, never used it. As for my setup, sadly l don't use GAMMA, but might later! l'm using Expedition modpack (just copied everything in my Anomaly folder lol, goes simple), and still use MO2 with 61 extra mods on top. Some mods that GAMMA also uses. And for the game setup... yea... l made a thin line between challange and suicide... - Traders don't sell Armor and Guns (but sell all accessories for guns, some food and some medicine) - Trader prices, when you buy from them is at 2x the price, while you selling to them is 0,5x (Had a nice gun that cost 329k) - Mechanic repair and upgrde price is 2x (repair can cost from 5k up to 100k) - Goodwill gain is 0,8x (so it takes longer to be friend) - playing on Medium / Scavanger, but armor protection is set to "average" and not "good" (so you can die from a single hit) - Hardcore AI aim is turned on Ofc most of the 61 addons are QoL stuff to make things easier, found a nice ammo maker mod too, that won1t crash my game AND can change the values how much parts and powder you need, which l balanced out so the basic ammo is 1:1 scale. Fun thing asbout this setup is... if you play a harder faction, like Freedom, Bandit or Merc, the game can be somewhat easier, since you got way more enemies, which means more loot, more money and more parts. Playing easier factions will make the game harder, since less people to shoot, less loot and money. And since Traders don't sell armor and guns and set the ammo on low sale too, you are forced to use the crafting table too! Making your own ammo, repairing armor and or guns. Can be fun. But yea, like in GAMMA, some mods can be turned off so it's not a hell hole. I enjoy it, playing as Merc and trust me... l had at least... maybe a minimum of 50 reloads so far? haha.

I played all 3 Stalker games back in like 2009 so jumping back in seems like a crazy fever dream trying to remember all the gameplay mechanics along with the new ones. I'm still learning which items can actually clean/repair parts. It was frustrating at first but once you spend enough hours trying to complete quests with a broken gun, you stop and read the manuals lol... Which is also a drain on precious resources but worth it in the end. Sitting around the fire studying field guides you could barely afford still requires a lot of food and water, leaving you with less money for ammo and upgrades... so even just sitting still in this game can get you killed. Your biggest enemy is invisible...time... I try to make my playthroughs as immersive as I can without relying on fast travel or quick saves. You're going to be spending a lot of time around the fire healing, so I suggest picking up an instrument if you come across one and keep it with you to pass the time (I chose the guitar) It's also worth investing in an axe early on because I found out you can chop trees for wood to make little camp sites for yourself. Nothing like getting paid to hunt some animals and sitting around the fire cooking up a meal and brewing some coffee. It's the long pauses between the action that make The Zone feel less like a nightmarish wasteland and more like a weekend camping trip with friends! I haven't played around much with the different companions and how the system works, but I accepted a quest to escort some Clear Sky to Yantar. After a failed bum rush to collect the payment, I found out that they will stay with you until you tell them you "Can't complete the job" so as long as you don't dismiss them, you have a squad (And some actually have decent weapons/armor) You won't get the full payment for not getting them to their destination on time, but you essentially have a free armed escort early on that you can use to protect you or carry junk. I don't exactly trust them to carry my loot yet because I'm worried they could leave or die at any time, potentially robbing me of thousands. It's not about the money or gear in the end, but the friends and experiences you make along the way :D

Anomaly isn't the biggest stalker mod by far. Cumulative Pak 2.2 is the biggest stalker mod in terms of content, multiple actual years worth of handwritten quests, multiple storylines, a grueling gameplay loop and 64 total locations, a huge monument of stalker modding with everything taken from everywhere. It also comes bundled with an English localization.

Overall quality is quite mediocre though, hence "strongest" and not "biggest". Anomaly aims to be the definitive experience; which won't mean including everything by everyone.

@@ArchOfficial Well it is an acquired taste, but I find Anomaly incredibly shallow and boring compared to soup mods like OP. Anomaly doesn't aim to be the "definitive" stalker experience because aimless freeplay with randomly generated quests are as far from the main games as you can get. It's like saying Garry's Mod is the definitive Half-life 2 experience
@ArchOfficial11 ай бұрын
@@tonic503 Yeah, correction, they claim "customizable", not definitive. Coulda sworn that was the line before. Bit more accurate this way, anyway. I'd argue STALKER's core is in the overworld A-life interaction and underworld dungeons. Both are retained in Anomaly and improved. The story is just fluff on top of that IMO. Most story missions in STALKER are just CoD-y action shoot em up sections with highly scripted gameplay. The only interesting part is the text delivered story. This is largely how True Stalker is as well. Anomaly also retains a lot of the text based story, it's just not as extensive. There's nothing wrong with being linear and setpiece based, but it doesn't play to the strengths of the IP. I found Metro 2033 underwhelming due to precisely that. Now before someone argues something about the novel or the film, the games have nothing in common and retain zero of the aesthetic or atmosphere.
@tonic50311 ай бұрын
@@ArchOfficial Perhaps this is the way English speaking fans see it, I've never realized it before. I think the English translation in the OG games is extremely subpar in terms of conveying the atmosphere, which is why it's no wonder that most western fans disregard the plot as fluff. I personally was always encapsulated by the story and setting, seeing the gameplay as an accessory. This is also probably why there are hundreds of fan books for Stalker in russian and like two natively in English. I've also just now realized that this is the reason western Stalker fanfiction most often centers around survival and jobbing instead of grand action movie plots lol
@ArchOfficial11 ай бұрын
@@tonic503 The plot is interesting; the story is fluff. It's not so important that the Marked One talks to this Duty guy and shoots this Bandit to me. It doesn't even matter who the main character is or if there is any at all. A lot of people seem to agree which is why Anomaly has succeeded. The plot in Anomaly is quite in-line with the maingames, but it has less story, if that makes sense. Although I would argue 99% of Anomaly players don't actually know the story either way. As someone who does and has played all the mainline games I still see it as secondary to the interactive elements, though. Maybe the translation is bad as you say. The dialogue sure is.

In SoC you kill like over 500 enemies by the end of the game, I feel like people forget how action oriented the originals are. These mods (in my opinion) do a better job at capitalizing on the things we remember about the series, like the atmosphere and danger. Oh yeah and most of these people didnt even touch any of the original games, how nice.. On the other hand some of these reaction are understandable because half of newcomers flooded the subreddit and other every stalker forum with dumb questions about lore that were explained in the og games, and SOMEHOW these same newcomers didn't notice that anomaly it's a mod and not a canon game. But besides that, the reason anomaly it's so popular to newcomers it's that: 1) It's Free 2) Gameplay Generally Feels Good 3) compared to OG games anomaly it's easier to get into without having to deal with the acquired taste elements of the OG games (Clear Sky Gunplay it's a perfect example of what I'm talking about) Generally speaking OG Elistists treat the original series with extremely rose tinted glasses ignoring that at least the first two games are really wonky and require patience to get into (even for the time they released)CoP is mostly fine though to the story feels like a fever dream. I mean Even E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy (another Eurojank Gem) feels better to play that Stalker SoC/CS... and also generally Elistists discredit every new interpretation of the formula because it's not of their personal taste so that means it's bad and it must be rejected because if not stalker 2 is gonna be Tarkov 2, which is never going to happen considering how different these two games are. Funny that you mentioned the old Brutal Doom drama... because after a few years both communities (the purist Prboom and Chocolate Doom players against the Gzdoom players ) managed to coexist without any controversy at all, keep in mind that nobody gatekeeps doom (almost impossible to do) and the majority of people just enjoy both, it came without the expense of neither of one and the most aggravating group (the "I only play gzdoom mods" players) are a joke and nobody takes them seriously, in fact vanilla Doom is perfecly thriving alongside the popular gzdoom mods like Brutal Doom, PB, LITdoom etc. I don't understand why you pull "Brutal Doom ruined Doom Community" as an analogy to what gamma and anomaly are in relation to OG trilogy Stalker.

The factions, the disguise system, the crafting system, and gaining companions as you build your reputation are really neat features. However, I do agree that they really do deviate from the good old S.T.A.L.K.E.R. feel. All the tactical and modern survival mechanics really turns me off as someone who grew up fond of the trilogy. Just take out the mutants, anomaly, and other supernatural aspects from G.A.M.M.A. and you have discount Tarkov set in Chernobyl. And don’t get me started on the new fans who got into the franchise with G.A.M.M.A. blowing up as a mod. When going over progression you forgot that some of the weapon parts are insanely valuable since they can sometimes be used for multiple top teir weapons. Like wild cards in a deck they are much more flexible. And with those parts and knowledge, you might just make a 15% durability weapon repairable immediately. Then factor in that weapons range in where they will likely be found and you have a seperate avenue to getting geared. Red forest is simple. Just like in real life forrests are super dangerous, stick to the edge and either move very quickly or very methodically. Leaves are concealment but trees are cover.

Gamma's progression is as fast as you want it to be. In my loner playthrough I found basic tools on day 1 and fixed up a shotgun and sks. I had advanced tools by day 5

54:26 for the first few days of playing gamma, get a all guns which got working Barrals... the Barrals are the Only thing you need the Workbench+Toolkit for to be replaced... everything else can be replaced in the field! just strip the part of a other weapon when you find the right one and drag and drop it on your broken gun... sometimes you first need to repair the Broken guns total condition to replace the parts with the Drag and Drop, for that use the Cleaning kits, you can get the condition up when the gun has over 10% overall condition, after that you can replace the parts... like i sayed when the barrle is broken, just dump the gun at the beginning, you have a lot of work to do before getting the chance to get a Toolkit or craft one...
