I usually post daily but I feel my reach declines the more I stick to posting daily. I noticed that When I have taken breaks, my returning post usually does better than the norm, no matter the quality. This makes me feel insta is just screwing with you to try to get you to go back to posting more by chasing likes. At the end of the day Small accounts will stay small no matter how good your content or engagement ratio is. So many great photographers fly under the radar due to the algorithm.

I don't think IG is dying, it's just changing. When it started it was focused on photos and sharing creativity. I think as it's gained popularity it's become the place absolutely anything and everything is posted. Now half the posts are screenshots of tweets or tiktok videos. This bothers me so much! If I wanted to read tweets I'd open twitter! Because of this I've drastically cut back on who I follow. When I open IG I want to see compelling images that inspire me to create not screenshots of tweets and political arguments........Rant over 👍🏻

I am currently in my 365 days project where I shoot and post photos evry single day. My account hasn't grow that much in the 290 days that I have been doing it, but I see myself as a photographer grow, which was the reason why I started this project. During this project I also got in touch with people walking outside who saw me shooting, asking me if I got some nice shots already.

I recently spoke with a 'reels expert' from facebook and they told me that even though the algorithm changes constantly (which feels like every time Mercury is in retrograde) the #1 things it likes is consistency (go figure - something we can both relate to). She said if I can't commit to posting every single day then I should post once a week, on the same day, every time. At first I thought that was a bit of a slap in the face to tell a creator using your app to post less but then I actually started doing it out of frustration and saw my reach and impressions actually started to improve... i also stopped posting photos and switched to only posting reels

I honestly see it harder to grow on Instagram with smaller accounts. Hashtags for smaller creators get shundown by bigger accounts it seems. Even with testing out different ones so I wonder if you could do a “new” account and do the same to see how much you grow it without promoting on your channel or any other social media to see if it would work.

I agree. It would be interesting if he made a new account and didn’t tell anyone about it and just grow organically. I see so many Instagram gurus on KZbin with this 0 to 100k in 7 days bs. They do it with influencer marketing. Something out of reach for 99.9999% of us. Big accounts like Chris’s will NEVER EVER have trouble growing at a raging pace. The posts dominate the hashtag reach. Literally every hashtag will rank #1 and will have substantial explore page exposure. So of course it’ll be easy peasy. He could literally take a dump on his front porch and post a photo of it and he’d gain 2,000 followers... I’d love to see an account from scratch!

It ain’t about how many days in a row you post, but what you post. Many people will think that if they post every day for 90 days, they will grow your numbers, when in reality they will actually lose followers, because that is what Instagram has been doing recently. Deleting inactive and bot like accounts. I do not think that posting 90 days in a row will help you grow your account.

I have a bit of a different opinion/perspective here. Instagram has become about pleasing the AI filter first, and then the AI will decide how/where to show your content to other audiences, this is completely backwards. We don't pay much attention to TikTok, it's not something we are interested in, but the reason we (friends etc.) feel Instagram is dying, is mainly because the algorithm is completely broken, and that the features/functionality is a huge outdated mess with basic features either not working, or aren't implemented properly. Additionally, and not to be discounted, all of these platforms are censoring everything through their designated AI filtering, they are shadow banning people for any and everything they deem as not "what they want, or not appropriate for their audience", deciding for everyone else what they'd like to see. Instagram is blatantly and mostly promoting larger influencers' who were there from the start, and/or mainly people who use all of their features or more video every day, despite it originally being a photo platform -- we really don't care about what TikTok is doing, they need to stop trying to force it. All of this combined is creating incredible amounts of distrust and distaste for these platforms, people feel like their posts are no longer being promoted just for following someone who may or may not be on an arbitrary, "no no" list, if they used a hashtag that isn't favorable/banned but it doesn't tell you, or because a business isn't paying money to advertise. This is the complete opposite and devoid of the original intention behind social media and Instagram as a whole. They've clearly lost their way, especially with Facebook acquiring Instagram; though TikTok is horrible as well with their data mining and anti-privacy policies. Back on point, Instagram can no longer sustain itself in the long term with its current path of censorship and dated functionality that makes it inconvenient for creators to upload from their PC's, Mobile, etc. The algorithm clearly favors massive creators who are making them a fortune by keeping them at the top, promoting absolutely mundane, cookie-cutter shallow content, and seemingly no longer sincerely support's or cares about the smaller creators' content without them treating it as a job and using all of IG's features every day that not everyone wants to use or cares about. A side note. Everyone wants to pretend that all you have to do is "be active and respond to your community" etc. Well the way Instagram works, these are no longer one-stop solutions that work for people. Everyone posts in different ways or runs a business that doesn't make sense to post videos for. If your content isn't being shown to anyone just because you are posting photos and not some random feature Instagram added/favors right now, then you won't have a community to respond to as a beginner. This is incredibly shallow and disingenuous advice we've all heard thousands of times over the years, that we still consistently hear from creators and comment sections. In today's world of social media, "lacking community involvement" is typically no longer the issue, the issue is fighting the platform and the AI itself based on what you like to post and engage with. In short. Using inhuman biased algorithms designed by sociopaths, instead of giving everyone an equal opportunity to enjoy the platform, share their content the way they want to share it, to be shown on the newsfeeds naturally and unbiasedly, share their content without being managed/manipulated by corporate algorithms, and arbitrary but constantly changing goal-post rule sets, will ultimately end these platforms if nothing is changed.
