I’m definitely at this point and need to make a decision soon. Looking forward to the next video!

I turned one of the rooms in my house into a small studio. Mostly natural light and working hard to save for designing it nicely. Please do your photography studio tour. Thanks!

Definitely would love to do a studio tour 😊 Home studios are seriously the best! So much time and opportunity to experiment with work 🙂

What if I rented or bought one for self use and not to take photos of others?

I think you then got a studio for self use 😇

Hi Kayleigh, as someone who’s mainly done test shoots/ beauty editorials to build their portfolio up, I was wondering do you think paying clients would expect an actual studio to shoot in? Just as all of my work so far with strobe lighting has been done with a makeshift setup in my living room, and I get a little worried that it might not come across very “professional” if people were to book me for paid shoots, especially as my living room is tiny! And smaller second question - would you be factoring in studio costs into your rate? Loving the freelance Friday videos by the way!

Came here to say only how it goes where I live. Most photographers here actually don't have their own studio, and most studio photoshoots of any kind here are done in rental studios (we have two "famous" ones, so that's what most of them use). Now, I assume this might differ from place to place. I would be factoring in studio costs, just be aware that you pay for studio usage per hour (or the whole day, which usually has a bit of a discount, depending on the studio. Again, that's just speaking for where I live)

Thank you Ayla! To answer you second question first, yes I would be factoring studio costs into rates. 🙂 And to answer your other question it definitely depends on the client. Before I had my own studio I would often recommend studios available to hire. If it's a smaller client they may be happy to shoot at your home studio, usually some larger clients will have expectations of a professional studio. But it also depends on your style of work and what you need 🙂

Might I ask what type of insurance do you get in studios??!
@gregisaphotographer3 жыл бұрын
In the US you would need general liability insurance at the minimum. I've found that to be not very expensive.
@KayleighJune3 жыл бұрын
Definitely some sort of liability insurance so it protects other people coming into the space, but there are other things that may come under a business insurance policy such a theft of equipment, damaged equipment, interior/exterior glass, etc. It's important to talk with an insurance specialist 🙂
