I first began KZbin, 9 years ago, because I never felt that my friends/peers fully understood me & my interests; I wanted to have a voice and belong to a community. I continued KZbin because it felt great to hear people were entertained by my content and that it made them happy. It was also the perfect place to share my love of art and inspire others to do what they enjoy.

The man makes some great points here. Everything in life isn't supposed to be easy. However, the 100k people that watched this and feel down or reading any negative comments just turn it off. Now ask yourself what you want from life that makes you happy. No matter what you do in life, chase HAPPINESS no matter how low the payout is. Don't chase money. Be more self-aware. Know who you are. If you truly try your hardest to chase happiness, I assure all of you will be in a place that you couldn't ever imagine. It's an ongoing process that everyone should take seriously :) P.S. If you're happy, you're probably extremely productive at whatever you do!

Good video. I agree with everything you said except 1 thing - "if anything happens to YT, then you're unemployed (if it's your primary income)." This is obviously true, but your point doesn't hold weight, relatively speaking. Because, the same thing can happen to any job, anywhere in the word. You can get laid off, fired, at any moment. Or, the company you work for could go bankrupt and go under anytime as well. Lastly, YT is unlikely to go under and become bankrupt..especially compared to many other smaller companies or start-ups. But me? I'm not really a "YTer." I was actually only expecting 10-20 subs at most. I just like taking photos, travel, filming and making videos, I love food and also tech gear. At the start, YT was simply a platform to put my videos on...no other pretense.

I make KZbin video for fun, and also to share my creations. But mostly for fun. That's probably why my content is very varied and unfocused... it's a direct reflection of what I am in real life. I jump from one hobby to the next... so right now the content on my youtube contains music, games, and other random stuff. I used to make comedy videos and vlogs, but that has since been deleted (they were embarrassing, derp), maybe I'll go back to vlogging one day. My channel is still small and I'm still figuring out what I'm doing, it's a fun learning progress.

I'm interested in making videos because I feel it's a platform for expression. I've always been fascinated by this. The ability to connect with people in a broad, deep manner is amazing. I've been an avid KZbin viewer since approximately 2009. I've watched various content and it continues to change on a daily basis. I've noticed individuals with strong personalities are what draws me to videos, rather than what content is provided. I value intimate interpersonal connections. I wouldn't say context doesn't matter, but I feel people should worry less about molding their videos to such rigid standards for their content and be themselves. Often I see people develop an idea of what they believe their viewers want to see vs what they want to do or feel is best. This results in content of lesser quality and creates a false image for yourself, which is extremely destructive for both viewership and the content itself. Popularity or monetization would mean very little to me if I were to make videos, but the revenue would be a welcome bonus if nothing else. I would absolutely love to start a channel, but feel I'm not mentally capable at the moment for personal reasons. Maybe later this year I can finally achieve it. As for what content I would provide? Honestly, I don't know. Even if I were to designate a theme, I can guarantee I would provide a wide variety of content. Great food for thought, thanks for the video. Just found you today (subscribed already,) love the introspection.

I started youtube originally because I was a bored college student...then I got really interested in makeup and I've always loved fashion. Things kinda escalated from there, and then life happened and I didn't really make videos for a long time. Years have passed, a lot has changed, but I have always had the desire to get back on youtube and make videos again. I feel like I have a lot to share with the world. The past couple years I was deterred by all the youtubers there are on the platform now and I didn't want to put so much time and effort into making a video when there probably a video with similar content already on here... but I've decided that I'm going to get back to making videos anyways. At the end of the day no one else is me, and the way I deliver content isn't the same as someone else. So I'm happy to be back on youtube for 2017 and I hope that my content reaches the right viewers and they will appreciate what I share. Sorry for the super long comment... great video! Thanks for posting it, a lot of people start things for the wrong reasons or just to try tings out. Good luck to all the new youtubers out there that are driven by passion or are just trying to find their voice!

I always loved beauty & fashion, but seeing all these girls on KZbin & how big the beauty community already was... scared me to death! I always thought nobody would watch me, because I don't compare to them. I let my fear go, and realized that making my OWN beauty & fashion videos & even daily vlogs helped me overcome my anxiety and finally felt like I can be myself without being judged. BEING IN FRONT OF A CAMERA MAKES ME FEEL ALIVE! I LOVE IT! As long as it makes me feel happy, I'm grateful :) xo

I started my channel with a 4 year horizon to get it to bill paying levels with a combination of adsense and crowdfunding. My goals are two-fold. I am really passionate about history education, and would like that to be my day to day living. KZbin is a great way to show people history content when they might not get it elsewhere. The second goal is based on the first. Part of my mission to be a communicator for history is to be an authour, and in modern publishing, having an audience receptive to your content that you regularly build and interact with online is a great way to create a market for your writing. So here I am, and thanks to Roberto's advice over the last couple years, I am on trajectory to be able to go full time in 2019 even by conservative estimates. So if you are looking to start a youtube channel, have good reasons, have a plan, take it seriously, and listen to Roberto Blake's advice.

Agreed!!! If someone asked me "what kind of KZbin videos should I make?" I would probably tell them KZbin isn't right for them at this point in their life. You should already have a passion about something and want to share it with the world, at which point KZbin would one choice of an avenue for sharing, not your ultimate goal.
@WeirdDarknessOfficial8 жыл бұрын
***** I hear ya - and I agree that they should not be stopped from making videos (free speech and all!), but if someone is asking my advice on what videos to create, that's where I tell them they're not ready. Even the crazies on KZbin at least have an idea of what they want to - even if it is horrid. If someone is asking me what kind of videos they should make, it says to me that they have no true desire to create something, only the desire to be famous for the sake of being famous. The chances of that happening on KZbin are so astronomically low you'd probably have a better chance of being bitten by a shark and struck by lightning while in line buying a winning lottery ticket on a Friday the 13th.

Hollow, I understand what they are saying but I'm going to counter punch and it's going to come off a bit condescending but they are naive as hell... "Have they EVER run a business?" Because I say KZbin is a business, but you know what? I ran a business before KZbin and I run one outside of KZbin and beyond it... and so for them to say they are going to make KZbin their business and not do something they believe in or are passionate about... they are very, very naive, about what a sustainable business looks like over the course of 5-10 years of your actual life... These are mostly young people who haven't lived in the real world yet or had a career before and think of KZbin as a career (which it's not)... I'm 32 and I've had a career and lived and built a business more than once... Have you noticed that KZbinrs that started 5-10 years ago, are burning out, and that they aren't into most of what they do anymore or are clearly only still doing things because they don't have something else or something more, even though they've outgrown their channel and the identity they built.... So when I say do something you are passionate about and make sure you want to do this... I'm saying going back to the roots of the culture of KZbin instead of thinking you're going to do what's popular because that will make you money... is not sustainable and for 99% of people it doesn't work... and even the successful people who did have often brought heaps of misery down on themselves.... look at BFvsGF as an example... a 10 year relationship destroyed... the brand is now dying too... and Jeanna is now struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide... as result of daily vlogging their relationship for views.... Trollstation does real pranks, and they get arrested and one guy gets deported.... My view as expressed in this video is about practicality....

Roberto Blake Honestly, I don't really understand the whole idea of getting views just for the sake of views... being famous just for the sake of being famous. What feeling of accomplishment is there in that? I'm doing KZbin because I'm passionate about entertaining and telling stories, and that is reflected on my channel. Would I love to make it a full-time gig? Sure - but ONLY if I love what I'm doing. Seeing as I'm already doing voice work full time, I see KZbin as a hobby where I can get my creative juices flowing and bring some joy, laughter, or scares to those who subscribe to me. That's all.

I started KZbin because when I was hit by a drunk/high on cocaine driver while I was walking it changed my life. The months I spent on my bed recovering I remember watching so many encouraging videos that helped me get through the pain. I wanted to pay it forward for anyone else going through difficulties and need to watch something relaxing like a tutorial or motivating like loosing weight. It's been 2.5 years since I started and still growing and connecting with people! One of the best decisions I ever made😄

My girlfriend says I'm a good teacher and should start a KZbin channel. So I invested like $5000 on a new pc and equipments. Spend 6 months writing down my scripts and ideas. And 3 months learning how to build a pc for the 1st time in my life. After building my dream workstation pc I got software compatibility issues. And then realize that I need to setup a website in order to join amazon affiliate program. And then I realize I need to learn video editing. And music creating. And photoshop coz I designed some nice artwork. And then realize I still need more equipment. My initial budget was $2k setup and ended up spending $5k and still missing a lot more equipments. And what I have planned initially are all totally fucked up. Have to re-plan everything all over again. Omg it's a long story. Maybe I should make it into my 1st video. Life when you prepare to become a KZbinr. Because I'm setting up a live streaming gaming work station build. It's gonna be on both twitch and KZbin so it's a bit more costly for my build. Long story short. What I'm trying to say is even getting started almost killed me.

To be honest I did start KZbin because I thought it would be easy money, but I was soooo wrong & quickly figured out I wasn't going to be making a living doing KZbin. Even though I started KZbin for the "wrong reasons" I did find that I LOVE making KZbin videos. I didn't resize how badly I needed a hobby, something that was just mine and KZbin had filled that void. I've been doing KZbin for 3 years now & my reasons for continuing to make content is 1. I need the hobby 2. I'm able to help or entertain people 3. As a stay at home parent this gives me a way to connect with other adults during the day 4. It allows me to document my life and I feel like I'm making something awesome I can look back on when I'm old

Roberto Blake I think that it's really great you were able to do that. When ones creativity is encouraged by ones family it can be enlightening. For many other people it is different to impossible. My grandmas never going to want to watch me playing hours of first person shooters. But there's lots of people that would and will.

We started KZbin a year after we'd created three original educational songs, The Three States of Matter, The 5 Senses and The Water Cycle. We created The three states of matter first because our two children needed to learn it quickly and my husband is musical. He's always made beats (since his childhood) and written silly, very silly songs. I am a teacher, so we put it all together one day and put the three songs on my blog. We got pretty good feedback from readers, friends and family and so abyear later, it dawned on us that we could do this and put them on KZbin. So here we are and we are loving it!! Our kids are now involved which makes it a family affair. Great vid, you're enjoyable to watch and great tips shared.

+IceHawk077 I'm not. Im helping people frame their expectations because of how much misinformation there is. As someone coming from the business and education side, framing things in a realistic and actionable way is practical. You have too many people who get caught up in the less than honest cheerleading that goes on with in this platform and they get disappointed easily and feel they were lied to. Someone has to be devils advocate and give them something that isn't watered down or overhyped. Add to that, look at how some of the biggest people on the platform have either burned out, or are not making their best content or are on the verge of quitting. The KZbin culture has taken a ton of negative turns, and so speaking up about it is something that many people aren't willing to do because they don't want a comment like this. But if you notice, I'm actually getting more praise than negativity for telling it like it is and not trying to make people believe in magic, but in work and realistic expectations... I also think when there is a problem it shouldn't be ignored because people are uncomfortable or just want to feel good. On this channel, never expect that I will pander for views, nor interested...

I started my KZbin channel about three years ago because I felt lost and I wanted someone to talk to and I just thought that KZbin would be a good outlet for me and a way for me to find some friends. Now I've changed my channel to be completely focused on art, which is something that I'm really passionate about. So because of this I'm starting to really get serious about my channel. I've been posting videos for years. It's not really successful and I've never gotten paid from it but I just keep doing it because it's what I love to do.

I started on KZbin because I always had an interest in the whole youtube community (I watch all sorts of stuff). Since I really became obsessed with travelling and seeing as much of the world as possible, naturally I focussed the most on (travel) vloggers and filmmakers. I also like photography a lot. This all contributed to me getting to know more and more about filmmaking, video blogging, youtube as an industry etc. so that I eventually started doing my own thing with my travel vlogs and since more recently little cinematic short films. I absolutely love it and the work I put into my channel doesn't even feel like work. It's pretty much just all I want to do to get better at it and to have a positive impact in a way with my vids. :)

I started my channel with the idea of filming a night of fishing on the beach, that didn't go to plan, instead i ended up with a 2 minute video of me driving. I also had some shots of a DIY project I did and decided to piece that together and share it, hopefully people enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it. Filming and editing my DIY project was a massive learning experience for me and showed me just how much work goes in to making a seemingly simple video. I have around 200 views and 2 subscribers, I'm really happy with that since my video hasn't even been up for 24 hours yet. I started my channel to share my ideas and experiences with like minded people. I have a few more ideas for videos, I will film them over the coming weeks and months and see what happens.

To answer your question - I got into YouTubing recently to see if it was something I could do and because I thought I could do a better job than others that were successful on this platform. Then I realized - video editing (even things that look like nothing) is kinda hard and certainly time consuming. After some big fails in trying to do movie reviews - I found something I love - satirical videos - and the editing (while still time consuming) is now a labor of love.

I started doing KZbin because I saw a friend of mine doing it in high school and thought it would be really fun to do as a hobby; however, while I still think its fun, there's more to it than that. I'm a Pokemon KZbinr, and now I want my channel to be able to unite different people across the world through Pokemon. I want to show people how Pokemon can impact people and change lives. This is something I discovered about myself more recently, so I need to start making more content that reflects that. Although I still wanna make that fun content I first thought about. KZbin also allows me to be myself and openly express my thoughts and opinions.

I'm starting to roll out constant content on my YT channel this October. I'm doing it because I've always wanted to, but never did because I thought it had to be done like the popular youtubers... you know with great lighting, space and it would take lots of money. Basically everything to become "KZbin famous". Now that's all that is out of my head and I'm doing it as a hobby the process has been a lot more fun. My channel is going to be mostly vlogs, travels and some DIY type videos, stuff that may not be interesting to lots of folks but stuff I want to make and I know my friends and family will get a kick out of. Definitely agree, if you aren't enjoying it and just doing it for the fame it sucks.

Thank you man. You're awesome. I started my KZbin channel back in 2010 because I was planning to make a short film in 2011, which I made but didn't upload in my channel for some reason, I had it uploaded in my friend's channel. Then I made some other videos once in a while and posted in my channel. Then I tried to get in some film schools for several years, but got rejected from everywhere. So then only six months back I started talking KZbin Seriously. and I have worked much harder in last six months than I did in six years before that. My consistency is getting some attention, although growth of my channel is super slow, but I am really enjoying this.

I started a KZbin channel because of all the people who enjoy my taste in music at school and other sociable areas I head to. A lotta people used to ask me "Oh that's nice what are you listening to? What is that?" and so now this is a way for me to share that with those I keep in contact with and others who wish to listen in. After picking up and learning After Effects I noticed the things similar channels do that I wished would be done differently; alot of them use the same old template/effect for all their videos. I feel like every song is unique so each one deserves a different effect. So here I am, talking with the artists I love, sharing music and learning how to make neat effects that I may well use outside of KZbin someday. Not a bad experience so far. We'll see how far it goes ^^

I wanted to try new scenes such as Videography, Video Editing, which is inclined to my artistic background. I love coding, gaming and just a geek of heart. Wanted to understand the new technologies, SEO, KZbin, Website Ranking, Video Ranking and I wanted to mix up things a little bit. Now I have a fun thing to do at home besides coding and gaming. Will I make a ton of money with this? Not sure. I hope though, but for now lets have fun and enjoy the ride.

I've had several youtube channels over the years, several different ideas for "shows", just weird stuff, but for the past year or so it's been heavy on my mind to become a serious content creator. Due to the overwhelming effects that social media actually has on the mental and emotional well-being of people, and especially people who already suffer from various mental conditions like bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, major depressive disorder, social anxiety, general anxiety, and things of that nature, I want to make content that speaks to that audience about real feelings and concerns that are applicable to real life and the fears that plague all of us on a day-to-day basis.

I started KZbin and I emulated my KZbin favorites, it dawned on me that I started to not enjoy it. So I took a step back had a few breaths and said to myself, sod this I'm just going to do what makes me happy and enjoy it. I started in April 2016 and 9 months or so on I'm enjoying the processes of KZbin, I'm figuring out bits here and there by myself but I definitely still don't know how, what and why things work or don't. There are still some things I want to do that I just don't get time to do for the channel as full time employment and family take priority. The biggest problem I have is promoting my channel without sounding desperate or Spamming everywhere, which from my point of view if I saw someone doing that it would probably annoy me so I don't do it. But watching you and Nick Nimmin is insightful and full of information and its nice to see people out there caring for smaller youtubers, I pick bits up but still goes over my head when putting it into practice. So thank you For your video's Roberto Kentparas
