Should You Start On a 600cc Motorcycle as a Beginner?(First Motorcycle) Is a sport bike good to start out on as a First Motorcycle? In this video I talk about the Pro's/Con's of starting on a 600c sport bike as your first motorcycle. I am on a group ride with my friends and i sit on their bikes as well to show the viewer the different types of motorcycles that are good as a first motorcycle. There are definitely pro's/con's to owning a sport bike as your first motorcycle. I think it really comes down to what your looking to get out of motorcycle..for example do you want a performance machine or do you want something a little bit more practical as far as comfort and just overall ride ability. I discuss all of that in this video and even sit on different motorcycles and share my thoughts on each bike that i am on in this video. Bikes that i sit on this video include 2005 Honda CBR 600rr, 2022 Kawasaki Z650, 2014 Yamaha Star Bolt 950, and we made a new friend on this trip didn't sit on his bike but the bike is in the video towards the end and it is a FULLY ELECTRIC 2022 Zero DSR. ENJOY!

Fast bikes are fun and slow bikes are fun. I currently have a CBR 600rr and a Honda Grom and love riding both of them. I used to have a CBR 1000rr and got rid of it for my 600 cause in all honesty throwing the 600 around in turns is was more fun then doing 190mph and when I wanna go fast I’m content with 140mph at this point in my life lol

Has a lot to do with the actual throttle. A common swap on other bikes is to swap to an r6 throttle tube. Smaller range of pull = quicker throttle response.

You should have explained why the z650 is slower than a super sport 600. I’m not sure if you did or not cause I haven’t finished the video but just in case, the difference between a z650, or a ninja 650 or even a Yamaha r7, is they all have 2 cylinder engines. As opposed to a gsxr, or a zx6r or r6, or any liter bike, is they all have 4 cylinder engines which obviously produce way more power. That’s where you get the HP, torque and throttle response from. Hope that helps.

I used to ride but haven't rode anything in like 15yrs. Until a buddy brought a new bike and sold me his R1. Big difference than any 600cc i ever rode. But honestly, back in the day, 600cc was the only bike to really get starting off. They had some 250cc but not many. But i believe start out on what you want. You're gonna wanna upgrade soon as you out grow the smaller cc. It comes down to how responsible you are to control that little voice wanting you to push it.

A lot of riders who start on a big bike never become really good, and tend to be afraid of simple stuff like rain. The problem is money. If your bike is too expensive to drop, you'll learn less, because you'll be afraid to try fun stuff like sliding in a dirt road. And if you've never experienced slides, then you won't know what to do when you hit a slippery spot in a turn. Having some sliding experience (if you had a dirt bike, or a cheap bike you rode through the dirt) is very useful in that situation.

@redcurated4302 oh, the 650 was great, incredible starting bike. I still own it. I also own the yahmaha r6 and the BMW s1000rr now. Definitely recommend the 650 to start out on. You can learn throttle control a lot better on the 650 than the 600 or ofc the 1000. I mean the 1000 you can be in gear 1 and hit over 100 mph. You barely pull the throttle, and you're at 50 mph in seconds. The 600 is more fun imo than the 650 but not as beginner friendly. It's way more aggressive in speed, acceleration, and seating wise. When starting on a bike it's always best to start slower but not so slow that your dying to upgrade within a couple of months. Hence why I think the 650 is the perfect starting bike. Upgrade to a 600 maybe 6 months later if you want and buy a used one off marketplace like I did. Starting on the 650 will get you to learn the basics, handling, and the weight of the bike extremely well. Starting on a 400 or anything lower I find is a waste of time and money. The bikes are just too slow and you'll want to upgrade in 2 months like a friend of mine did. Now he's stuck trying to sell the 400 with 1200 miles on it and losing out on at least 1-2 grand.

UK viewer here! We have loads of lessons before getting on an unrestricted bike! Totals up to about 15 hours maybe? Different disciplines of riding too like U turns, slow riding, avoidance, emergency breaking, road riding all sorts! I’m about to buy a ZX6R 09 - I’ve had a bit of experience riding mopeds, a crosser, and the Z650 twin your mate was on! Think it comes down to emotional maturity rather than ‘learning how to ride the bike’ anyone can learn to ride the bike, but having the mindset to go “no I’m not opening her up” or “don’t be a div against the bmw next to me” then you’ll be good! Il update you how it goes!

The first bike I ever road was my step dad’s 2013 Harley v rod muscle. I road it once maybe twice then started riding his 08 Harley electra glide touring. I took a few rides on that and even took it to my graduation. Then I bought my first bike. A 07 Suzuki boulevard C90. I road that for a summer then sold it the next and didn’t ride anything that summer. Then the next summer I bought a 07 Harley Electra glide touring. (I still have it today) then in the beginning of the next summer (last summer) I bought that same 2013 v rod off my step dad and sold it at the end of that summer unfortunately. I miss that bike. And last month I bought my first sport bike. A 06 Suzuki gsxr 750 and so far love it. I have been fortunate enough to have never dropped any of those bikes or have any accidents. Knock on wood. If you cared enough to read all this, thank you.

I've had a ton of 2 wheel experience growing up and until now. I'm talking 250 450 the fastest dirtbikes and 4 wheelers. So I am not completely new to the game. And no lie I got a liter bike for my first bike. Now I'm 32 and got my 2023 zx10r about a yr ago today. And I'm still learning alot of things. My dad being someone who had a busa and different bikes when I was growing up made me want a crotch rocket lol. And one thing he said that's true is that you have to respect the bike. Not just because of speed either because a moped can kill you. But respect everything about a bike and what comes with riding. Your not just risking your life. Motorcycle can cause accidents as well. But the truth is that anyone can learn to ride a bike no matter the size. I've seen two women in there 40s that were best friends. Learn how to ride on busa's that there husbands had. They were dropped and stretched which makes it somewhat easier to ride. But these women now both have custom busa's. But all that said most people should start small. And hopefully you will get a bike and fall in love with riding which that's what all of us love. Riding is probably one thing that's got my through tough times. It clears the mind. Another tip is that don't get a sport bike just because you like the looks. Because there not comfortable to ride I'll tell you that. I had to drop my zx10r a little so I was leaning so forward. And it still isn't very comfortable to ride. These are really made to ho fast that's about it lol 😂. So if your looking for a bike to go on long rides? You might want a touring style bike.

Good review. Might I add, here in the UK the roads are poor generally speaking. Being an island we get a lot of rain, makes maintaining road surfaces a lot harder so more pot holes. I’d recommend getting on a 400 and get consistent daily practice. It’s probably the best move. Training the fundamentals is absolutely necessary. Riding 2-3 times a week on a bike like the Z400 is great. The bike is a solid all rounder. Move up to a 600 after 8 or so months and you’ll notice the difference in experience and learning compared to not.

I started on a 08 R6 and its really the best thing ever IF you are responsible. Staying out of the power band is quite easy and it rides like a dream. plenty of power down low and its very manageable. It all comes down to the rider. If your a speed demon then this will kill you as a beginner. If not then take it slow and learn to ride properly and you will be fine.

I started on a cbr600rr, i grew up riding dirtbikes, and would ride my dads harley when i was younger, i also have been driving manual cars all my life, so i learned really quick on the 600. I spent an entire week leanring the power band on it, with the cbr600rr, it has lots of power in the higher RPMs, and was more manageable in the lower RPMs than other 600cc sport bikes. For me personally, it was very easy riding on the cbr600rr, but i have a friend that bought an ZX6R to learn on and he just couldnt do it. He didnt care of taking the time to actually learn, he just hopped on a wanted to go fast, he was also too confident, and being overconfident can get you killed. I convinced him to sell it for a ninja 400 with some cash on the sellers end. But it all comes down to, are you willing to actually learn on it, do you know your limits, and do you have enough discipline to respect the bikes power? Be safe out there

I've never ridden a bike in my life. I'm planning to get a license in the future and I plan on getting a 600 (or 700, I like the R7 but it's kinda expensive), mostly because I like sport bikes and it would be expensive to change bikes. I've seen enough video to set a rule for the future: No. Fucking. Around. With. Bikes. Until. I've. A. Year. Or. Plus. Of. Experience. I'm concerned to go fast with cars, I think the max speed I've ever got was 150 or 160 Km/h and happened once or twice in 8 years. My cousin got to 220 Km/h with his porche and 210 with a 500 Abarth, my fear far surpassed the adrenaline (I live in italy and the speed limit is 130 km/h here, in mph should be around 80). So, I've read a lot of different opinions, most say that I should start with a 125, I don't like this idea so I'm thinking to get a 600 and take it very slowly

None of these KZbinrs are telling you that 600 do not have any power below 5,000 RPM, meaning unless you dump the clutch while pinning the throttle it's not even awake at most speeds, my ZX6R doesn't even start to build respectable power until 40 mph in first gear, it's not going to sneak up and get away from you, meanwhile I can pick up the front tire easily on my buddies Harley Sportster because it has low-end torque that the zx6r doesn't
@emptyMT839
@emptyMT839 7 ай бұрын
This is true, alot of people dont realize that 600/1000cc supersports dont have much low end torque, something like a z900 (120HP) has more torque in the lower RPM range than a zx10r with 200hp..
@david-an

Problem with 600 or any sport bikes is not just the power but mostly with the geometry and posture. This thing is hard to ride even on race tracks. If you are saying it's ok to start on replica 600 as a beginner, you probably don't ride your sport bike properly. Riding this stuff under 60 MPH more than 30 minutes will force you to push on the handlebars. It's really a racing tool for a trained pilot. I wouldn't even recommend R7 (70 horse power) for beginners for the same reasons.

This won't be exciting, but worth considering. Buy a used 250 Honda rebel. They're cheap. They're everywhere, and they run and run, hardly ever breaking. Folks usually sell them for a bigger bike in a short while. Get your skills figured out on something manageable, and you can usually sell it for what you bought it for, and THEN buy your dream bike.. If you drop a used Rebel as you learn. You're not scarring up your new $8K bike that you must pay on the next 4 years. You will still have fun. This is a proven method.

I haven't ride for at least 15 years but so what. I've been researching the Energica Ego and I'm going on vacation up to Canada in a couple of months. So I thought I'd check out the dealership there. Since all the guys I know or, less than five fingers so called friends only offer their 5 cents worth of knowledge. I mean hey, STOP giving me their BS.i think their f kin jealous cause they can't reach the steering handles on a Sport bike so they take it out on me. But seriously I want to know what all the Questions I need to ask before buying. Thanks.

Hey! Of course I can help and thanks for watching my videos! I’ve actually never bought an electric motorcycle but your not going to have to worry about checking any fluids which is nice. I would just make sure the tires and brakes are good to go and make sure it rides alright and u should be ready to go! Hope that helps!

The answer is no. You can buy the bike and have it sit in the garage but you’ll need bike lessons with big bikes (other peoples ) before you get on yours.. the main reason is the bike weighs 400 lbs at 0 velocity which is a lot to balance. Once you get to higher speeds newtons laws kicks in and this bike becomes as heavy as car and your Spaghetti like limbs can easily get torn off. Never drop your foot on the road are arms to catch the bike at high speeds just jump off the bike at 40 mph and gear up for impact. It’ll hurt like a bitch but at least you’ll walk away with limbs not torn off. Broken bone is ok 😊 as long as not neck or backbone.

The stupidity of the 600/1000 cc supersport as a starter bike never going away under the premise of "well if i take it easy..." Nobody is saying everybody who goes this route is going to kill themselves, but the idea that they're going to develop good skills and habits merely trying to control a a beast machine that is: supercar power to weight ratio, aggressive position, aggressive braking, high revving engine that begs for throttle..... Then you get the 600 rider who has gotten to the point where he can do a few highway pulls and not kill himself but has chicken strips 2 inches wide and says "im ready to upgrade to a liter bike, ive outgrown the 600"! Nobody outgrows a 600 except a professional racer lol, a 600 is an extremely fast scalpel. A 600 is a fast sports car rather than an overloaded on HP muscle car like a dodge demon. Anybody that thinks a 600 is slow absolutely can't ride for shit.

I’ve realized when it comes to crotch rockets most people don’t actually realize what they are getting themselves into..they go online and read it’s okay to start on a 600 and end up getting hurt or even worse. I try and preach the right message because I hate to see lives get destroyed.

600 is fine for beginners so long as the rider isn't an idiot... 600's are downright docile till you get them over 10k on the tach... They aren't gonna flip you off, they are agile and handle well... The power is ok but not intimidating... They are still fast, typically top out in the 150's.... But they don't get there in like 4 seconds like a literbike does... lol

@@slimfit767 The thing is people should take the MSF course. 1. It teaches a few things, and 2. Pass and you get your license. It’s worth every penny. Any bike can and will kill you if you go too crazy, sometimes accidents just happen as well. Now with that said I say clutch control and self control is important.. once you pull that clutch in all power is cut off to the rear wheel as everyone should know and that can and will save you in 99% of cases. You can start on a 600 just take it slow and really get used to the clutch, all you have to do is hop on the bike and SLOWLY let the clutch out, no throttle whatsoever. The problem is people don’t make these videos explaining all of this, even the “beginner” videos on smaller bikes you just don’t see people talking about the stuff that needs to be talked about. I’m no expert rider by any means.. but it’s a shame to see some of these “experts” not cover any of the meaty stuff.
