Should You Stay Friends With Your Ex After a Breakup

My ex offered friendship and my knee jerk was to accept. I had to change my mind a few days later realising if there was any news of a new partner I’d be distraught. 😔

My ex of 2 years said he "can't" give me what I want. We were technically broke up since the day after Christmas and had reconnected around valentine's day and basically fell back into acting as if we were in a relationship. About two weeks later he said he can't give me what I want which is a commitment, marriage at some point, to live together. I had not brought any of this up tho since the reconnection. He says he wanted to be friends still. He said he still wanted to go eat together, go on trips together, hang out together (play board games, watch movies, walk, etc). He said he still wants to be friends because he enjoys being with me and "I fit like a glove with him". I have two kids and he said that was a lot of pressure to have a relationship with them and be a good example to them. He said he can't say he won't marry me, but that he didn't know if he would ever be ready. I said no to being friends and broke contact explaining that would be really hard on me. We haven't spoke in three weeks. I'm confused and hurting obviously. I'm just wondering if I should just stay in no contact indefinitely or reach out at some point. I feel bad for saying no to being friends because I feel like I'm hurting him but that wouldn't be best for me right now.

It really might feel hurt but I believe you will be much off on the long run if he can't meet your needs.

They want the benefits of a relationship, without the full blown commitment. I hope you are still in no contact

I am friends with my ex-husband. We have two grown boys and it is good for them. I do not want him back now. I did for a while, though, and friendship during that time was difficult.

Post is longer then I thougt and sorry for my bad english. TLDR is under the long text ;-) Since you mentioned getting calm down and find a way to talk to your ex. What if the ex doesn't see that she made mistakes. My ex dumped me three weeks before our wedding (she engaged me eigth months before) and told me she met a new guy two weeks ago and it sparks with him and not with me. They are together for seven months now ... We have a kid and where 20 years together. Last weekend we fought when we met (she said I should talk clearer to here, I said - she asked if we should do something togehter with the child for friendship and I told her I am not ready to do something with her when I know that she then goes to the new guy and do things ... that I need the space ...). The emotions startled (she says that she is still the mother and I couldn't get rid of her ...) and I told her she cheated on me. So said she doesn't since she quitet it before going to the new guy. I told her that she at least four times tells me she goes partiing when she intendet to meet him. Her reply, she was partiing there ..., then I told her that she knew whats going on and that she want to meet him when I watch for our child and that she knew that she checking on replacing me. She then told me that that doesn't count because she wasn't sure ... So on what base should I talk to her and find some way to deal with her when she doesn't even realise how bad this whole thing where. One part of me wants her back but my brain says this is gone since she was that bad at break up and after that. But at least we have child and have to deal with that ... TLDR: Ex monkeybranched or at least met the guy before four times and then dumped me and doesn't see a problem. How should I find a way to talk to her ....

If they told you they just want to be friends and you agreed to try, should I tell him I'm going no contact or just do it? @alexisfriedlander
