I love DVDs, no matter what people say they will never be obsolete. The price is just right for most people like me who just want to OWN a copy of the films they love. People forget that the point of collecting physical media is to OWN them and watch them at your terms. Keep collecting mate!

Some time ago I watched a DVD movie with my friend's bluray player, and the video quality was so much better that way, when nothing limits it. DVD players with scart connector were the reason to somewhat bad video quality. Nothing wrong with DVD's, there is absolutely no need for that extra quality, the movie is what matters. Bad movie is bad, no matter how big the resolution is. I have a lot of DVD's and I have no Blurays and I never use netflix or similar things.

I collect DVD, Blu-rays and 4Ks. For example there are certain alternate cuts that didn’t make it untouched on Blu-Ray and 4k. For example, in the US Passion of the Christ had a recut released in 2005 for those wanting to see the film in a less brutal form. that cut was later added on the 2007 and 2017 DVDs just how the film was screened in 2005 since I’ve watched both the Theatrical and Recut versions a few times that I can quickly pick up the differences. However they altered some bits to the Recut version for the Blu-Ray that were uncalled for. They put two random shots that had bad color correcting that pull me out from the film. So I keep two DVD copies of the 2017 release of the Passion since it’s better compressed than the 2007 release and retains the Recut version untouched to how it was shown in the cinemas in 2005.

I am a huge advocate for having a physical Media collection, even if its a movie you'll only watch once or twice. So many great titles are at thrift stores (we call them that in the us lol) and even Blu Rays. Specifically for tv shows, it is sooo worth it to just buy it instead of subscribing to a service especially the rights always being so finicky. Breaking Bad for instance is getting taken off Netflix in 2025, so I bought it all on blu ray and Better call saul, because they were the 2 shows I only cared about loosing and I unsubscribed. Now I can watch if the Internet goes out and I don't have to worry about any episode getting removed or any ads! Not to mention, if a favorite movie gets taken of streaming, ill always have it. Great video!!! Greetings from America!

if you want to keep your dvd for a very long time you will need to keep your disc in a vaccum chamber with no exposure to any form of particles that accelerate the Plastic rot that some cheaper made disc are prone to. while it is much easier to keep the movies for longer period by having it stored on a much more reliable medium that can stand up the test of time. the cheapest solution is to rip all your movies and simply write them on brand new high quality material Dvd. the industry, when having to manufacture millions of copies of each movies, will cut corners and sometimes use the cheapest of manufacture process. high quality material Disc, can last for 100 years without Disc rot, Theoricaly.

As a serious movie collector, I gave up on the DVD format a couple years ago. (unless there is no blu-ray release). For me, there were 2 reasons...mainly. #1 Durability. Compared to blu-ray, DVD's are like handling fine China. #2 Fidelity. As I own a 4K TV (and are a bit of a quality nerd) I don't even like streaming 4K content, as the video and audio are sub-UHD quality. Bottom line, If I'm going to waste 2 hours in front of the 'boob tube', I'm going to make it as worth my while as possible.

I personally keep to BR mainly as it helps me maintain a smaller collection. Often times the shop near me either have very few BR or they are a bit overpriced for being used. On the other hand there are so many DvDs that I would drown in them and run out of room. I already have quite a few BR that I have yet to watch so I don't need anymore. I also only own one 4K disc because I found it for $5 and it also included the BR. Funny enough I don't even own a 4k player so I can only watch the BR. I do however buy stuff on DvD if that's the only format available and I really want to own it. And I am looking to buy some 4ks of my favorite films in the future but again I don't even have a player right now so thats a future endeavor. Also since there are so many DvDs at the shops it would take a long time to sift through them all and look up films to see if they are worth picking them up, so it helps me waste a bit less time in the shop. Also also DvD is more likely to be damaged as it is less resilient than BR and a lot of DvDs were often handled by kids.

Even though the DVD format is laughed at by collectors these days because it no longer meets today's standards, I still think that this format has several advantages, starting with the original Star Wars trilogy; the special edition from 2006 contains the unedited theatrical version as a bonus, even if the quality isn't the best, as long as it's watchable I'm happy. Many would probably say that you only watch these versions because of nostalgia and yes, I often watch films that I grew up with and try to get the films as I knew them, the quality is not that important to me, these films have made me who I am today, also as far as my passion for films is concerned, I think the Blu-ray, for example, is great as an update to my all-time favorite, but I don't think the 4K is right because a lot of things are too sharp for me and there are other problems that I don't like about the format, James Cameron also plays a role, which is just my personal taste. I don't see myself as part of the physical media community on KZbin but rather as someone who has always liked films and likes to have them in their collection, whether it's VHS, DVD or BLURAY, everything has its right to exist without telling anyone else that your way of collecting is wrong.
