After using and loving this phone for over 5 years, I dropped it for the last time a few months ago. The screen completely shattered. Why now, I'm not sure, because it had been dropped many times before and survived. I ordered a new screen online and repaired the phone myself. Although the parts I ordered were not of the same quality as the original and only lasted about a month before cracking for no reason. I can still use the phone with a mouse but that's not very practical and so I ordered a Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact as a replacement. I love these little brick phones from Sony.

I had the Z5 compact for three years - at the start the battery would last 2 days of average use, but at the end it would barely last 7 hours on standby. The camera seemed better on mine but became a bit temperamental with age. I found the 4K video could only record for about five minutes before the phone overheated. Loved it for its compact size and the unique shape, would definitely say it was a good phone back in 2015. I have a OnePlus 6T now and I definitely miss the Sony Z5C's ability to fit in my pockets.

I really like this phone. I've had mine for 3 years and it's done everything I've asked of it. It has some key features that I demand in a smartphone, such as forward facing stereo speakers, a headphone jack, easy one-handed usage (corner to corner size of no more than 5 inches), fingerprint reader on the side on the power button, and no camera bump. I also like the very sharp corners. I will likely just keep using this phone until it stops working, which it may never, as I've dropped it many times over the past 3 years, I've never used a case, and it has yet to break.

Oh, that blocky design is love. Really. On the other hand, only thing wrong about Sony smartphones is pricing. It's the only thing stopping me all these years from owning one. And that can be seen even with the latest models they released. Were I live, the L3, with an mtk chip, is being sold for a fair amount over $200 (not an official price). Imagine all the Xiaomi phones you can buy, with an sd chip. P.S.: I'll be very happy with the reviews of older phones.

Ragna B I got my XZP in 2017 for under £600. It was rivaling the One Plus 5's and in my opinion as a better phone too. Officially from SONY, yeah their phones are way too much but you can often find retailers or carriers selling them for relatively cheap
@Ragna___5 жыл бұрын
@@kapilbusawah7169 Considering where Sony stands, in the smartphone market, almost $800 is a lot of money. This isn't the gaming market, where ps literally prints money for them. It's not that Sony smartphones don't deserve the retail price their asking for (for me, any retail price over $600 is crazy, for any company, for any smartphone, but that's a subject for an entirely different conversation), it's the position Sony has in the mobile market, that doesn't allow for that pricing. Yeah, their devices hardware-wise and software-wise are competing their "rich" rivals, but if you're the last competitor (I think their market share is depected on the "Others"?, I'm not so sure about that), you can't price your devices like your competitors in the first places, because you're not in the first places. Lower your prices, for the love of God don't ever use mtk chips and when you move up and find yourself in the upper places, then start asking for the "premium money". Well, these are my personal thoughts..

I used to be a very satisfied Z5 Compact owner for 2 years, when suddenly Android system buttons on the bottom on the screen (back, Home etc.) suddenly terminated to operate. In the beginning I thought it's only temporary (they're not physical buttons, right?), but it turned out, that this is a serious and widely recognized problem, requiring sending phone to service , with no guarantee of succesfull repair. have to get this one now that i already got the Z5 Premium in Chrome and the Z1 in Purple, either the Rose or Yellow color, it just looks great and i think todays Displays are just too big, although i compared my Mi Mix 3 with the Z5 Premium, the size is pretty much the same and the Display too! (when watching videos in 16:9 instead of stretched)

Thanks for the review, but for those who are looking for a 4,7 inch max display phone, to use it as is, only for calls, and basic uses (i have my Xiaomi Note 8, which is gigantic next the Z5 for photos), do you think the battery get enough to a full day or two. I managed to get my Nexus4 for two days, by using it properly, and i've bought it in 2013, so... Maybe for my use, it could be a good alternative of those big ass phone of today, but it's old, and the roms slows it down pretty much... I tried the XZ1 too, and, it has a small screen, but the same size as my 5,7 media phones, so, not useful...

in 2019 there is no reason to buy Z5C because it's old. My Z5 will have 4 years and it still working perfectly! I've 2-day battery life and good camera better than iPhone 7. I'm waiting for something like Xperia 1 with wireless charging and 3d unlock to switch. Honestly, Sony phones are perfect but always they miss something. I've another Sony Xperia Ion which I bought in 2013 and it still works after several accidents. I used it when I'm at the gym. But if one I should recommend someone to buy a budget phone like that I'll recommend Moto G7+ and if one day I would switch to another brand it will HTC.

used a Z5C for little over 3 years and loved the phone, mainly for its pocket size, overal smooth performance and long battery duration. BUT my last year using it was getting frustrating. was getting lots of app crashing, laggy from time to time even after factory resets . getting hot and battery only lasting half a day. even with a new battery. the camera was nice but not smooth to use specially filming would hang alot... bought my first oneplus (6T) and the world of difference holy shizzle. i sometimes miss the pocket size but you get used to it. never going back to sony i think

I have a z5 since it first came out, the camera is great although it does not have depht sensors which smartphones today have. It only struggles in lowlight but in daylight- it is very reliable. I have uploaded vids in my channel and all i am using is this phone.

I own a Z5 Compact for 2 and a half years now. I would strongly advise against buying this phone today. The SD810 overheats even with daily tasks such as phone calls or browsing. Also the 2GBs of RAM cannot hold in memory more than 3-4 apps. I am sure there are better deals out there.

I have the common Z5 Compact problem of the screen going blank when a phone call is made/received, and control of the phone cannot be regained until the other person 'hangs up'. It is not due to a screen protector (Ive removed it). No -one seems to be able to solve this glitch, and Sony seem to be just trying to ignore it exists. Any solutions out there? Certainly does not inspire me to buy Sony again ...

In 2019 it still does the job well and can handle daily use. but I bought XZ instead of Z. because its screen is ultra HD and its little faster. you cannot differentiate that its an AMOLED or TFT

I have the Z5 Compact. It's great because it is small enough to actually fit in my girl sized tiny pocket (it's at the outer limit of that!) It also has genuine fm radio, which is important - free local music and information, less battery drain, and importantly in emergencies radio like earthquakes etc (internet can go down and/or be overloaded). Unfortunately the downsides mentioned are ones I agree with, now that I've had the phone for about a year: it heats up a LOT at times, which is worrying, and the screen is incredibly dim (my Samsung Galaxy J1 is SO much better, and it was less than half the price) and the camera usability just isn't great. Having had Samsung budget phones (S4 mini before this) it made me appreciate the Samsung camera user interface is much better. But there really aren't options out there for a small phone with decent specs, let alone budget friendly. I'm disappointed with the camera and dim screen, I worry about how hot it gets at times (is it going to explode/burn?!) and the battery life isn't as good as I hoped, though it's alright (depending on use, charge within a day and up to every two days with low use). The GPS can also be a little slow/off - doesn't easily find me at times. However it's the only phone that met decent specs, fits in my pocket, has true fm (free) radio (must have earphone jack as the earphones act as the antenna) and a camera that can take good photos in some circumstances. Plus importantly was within a reasonable price range. I bought it about 2 years after release and nothing else was on the market with these aspects covered. It's a good phone. It isn't amazing. But it's decent, and I'm happy enough. It's a phone. I'm not wanting to carry $1-3k in my pocket. And I want free music and information wherever I travel without worrying about internet charges or connection (aka radio!). It also has OTG functionality, although the connection interface isn't obvious (no auto connect, you have to manually connect), and it takes micro SD, so can expand the capacity (and as it's Android 7.1 you could make it adoptable storage). It's a powerful option, with a few (very) annoying frustrations. Nonetheless I'd recommend buying it if it meets your needs, so long as you understand it isn't perfect. I'd still buy it - my pockets didn't get bigger! 🙃🤓

The world needs a compact phone nowadays. In a sea of huge and bulky phones, a small and compact phone is what some people need. I miss phones that can be held on one hand. 😟

I really loved the form factor when i used this phone, with light use the battery lasted long enough, at least for meine, and even the camera wasnt that big of an issue, it was fine for your occasional selfie. What really made the experience awful was the Sony Android skin, which just was unpleasant to use. I also experienced regular app crashes, especially the KZbin App was a big mess. And during summer i was actually frightened that my battery would explode because this phone got extremely hot. When i switched to a Pixel 2 XL after about 3 years of using the z5 compact i wasnt so sure wether i was really using a phone or a bone for all those years. Definitly can't recommend.

Had my z5 compact pretty much since it's release, replaced the battery and the back camera is getting a bit rough but it's still going strong.. The phone is the perfect size, the matte screen is my favourite. I don't understand how you had to charge your battery at lunch I was getting nearly 3days on that badboy. I'm buying another z5 compact, maybe two.
