I got verified over the summer and was doing $4-5k/month in sales, and then by January I was down 40%, despite maintaining more effort and consistency. It's hard to not feel like there is a capacity, and that i reached it. I feel like depop is just not a stable enough platform to build a business on, but it is fine for casual sellers. I'm in the process of transferring my inventory to ebay because the user base is much larger and the potential seems endless to continue growth. I haven't given up on depop, but as someone building a business, I realize the importance of a rock-solid foundation.

My theory is this: younger folks had expendable cash for the first time from stimulus payments and were buying clothes that younger people buy: t-shirts, work wear, etc. there are a few outspoken people in the depop slack chat who claim to still be doing well and the common theme i've found is that those sellers typically sell pricier women's clothing. i sell "mids" type tees and sweatshirts on depop and it is absolutely DEAD for me.

Same here lol I haven’t gotten any traction AT ALL I did just start like two days ago but I thought I would get noticed faster.
@auxc.68052 жыл бұрын
yeah and with so many people getting into vtg as well thinking theyll get noticed super quickly just to only post sometimes and their posts are the ones really changing and manipulating the market because nobody does research or prices correctly as well. Everyone thinks smaller creators have the best deals, while even top sellers in the community are struggling because we all sell the same stuff and depop changes algorithm to cater to the underdogs while still keeping the top top 1% satisfied with explore page and being put on ppls recommendations page and ads straight up. If your not at that top 1% depop wont give you love and sell like others.

I started in august of 2021 just doing depop part time listing maybe 20 items a week. started taking it a little more serious in november/december still only listing about 150 items a month. transition into 2022 and my goal is to list 15 items a day including weekends, but i only source mon-fri 10-1. since then i’ve had an insane amount of sales and each week is better than the last. february alone i’ve sold 116 items grossing me 4.2k. i expect sales to continue to increase as more items build up in my store, currently have 433 listed, looking to get around 1k so i sell the same amount daily that i list (15 items). imo if you grind and treat it like a full time job you will get a full time income, if you take days off and slack the algorithm will drop your traffic. that means slacking on listing daily/responding to messages/shipping 4-5 business days after a sale

ive been selling on depop since september where Ive been selling vintage, y2k, and fairy vibe clothing and accessories. the changes with the offers not being binding has been frustrating Ive found that leaving the shipping free and upping the price has been helpful. Ifs funny because ive found that having a price above 50 was actually more likely to sell than if the item (like a pair of vintage jeans) was less than that.

As a part time seller for a little less than a year. I've been crosslisting from eBay to Grailed, Poshmark and Depop. And I'd say Depop is definitely the hardest to get rolling on and bring in attention. The algorithm for Depop prefers a lot of interaction, so I can see how it'd be tough and discouraging to get started.
@lovelessvintage2 жыл бұрын
for sure, depop kinda rewards people that are on the app a lot engaging and posting a ton + have their like “vibe”. back in the day the featured seller + explore page also helped out so much. not sure if it does much for sellers now but featured sellers spots is what made my store take off!
@kay47322 жыл бұрын
We had to take all of the discounts off our items because we were getting so many offers on the already discounted price that would make it more like 75% off. I agree that offers should be binding and have a threshold to avoid low balls. I'm just happy that if you accept an offer, the item stays available (unlike Ebay) but wish it was pre-paid.

I've had a shop for almost a year (1 yr bday in a few weeks) and have close to 500 sales. I've had another part time job most the time while selling so I haven't put in maximum effort, but I'm happy with the $1,500-$2k it brings in monthly. Sales started really slow this year but they're about normal now even though most my attention is currently on my other job

Depop has been paling in comparison to Etsy right now for me. I think the issue for me, as a Canadian seller, is that international buyers have a hard time seeing my listings on Depop. The majority of my Etsy buyers are outside of Canada, and I've had a lot of repeat Japanese buyers in particular. The Canadian market is kind of crappy right now. That being said I still really enjoy Depop and it's a great place to post my Y2K and modern branded stuff that I can't put up in my Etsy store.

I don’t ever comment on KZbin but I LOVE this video. Definitely one of the most insightful and informative Depop videos I’ve seen. I’ve been selling for a couple years now and I’m currently at 1,600 sales. I reached top seller status but I was dropped while I was in school full time and only selling part time (I have one semester left). I have had a really hard time establishing a brand for myself (logo, brand name, etc) although my specialty is womens 90s and y2k. I’m looking to finally commit to a brand name and logo but would love some advice on this. Once I have that squared away I would absolutely love to try selling via one of your live streams. Can you do a video about like profit, margins, and kind of how to know what to price your items at like how much would you pay for something and how much do you sell it for? I know there’s a Depop calculator out there and people will say you know price items like this like that but they don’t really get into the nitty-gritty of it of what their actual profit margins are and how much stock you need to be selling per week to actually be making money on it because I know retail profit margins are really crappy like 10% 20% but I was gonna read it for all the other day with people saying if they can’t make 50% on it they don’t buy it so I’m really lost here cause I’m seeing people with $10 $15 $20 $25 $30 items in their stores and I’m wondering how much did they pay for it? How much are they losing in fees and shipping and then how much are they actually making? I’m having a hard time understanding how with his Depop fee is shipping fees and the original cost of the item people are making money unless like you said you’re posting 10 items a day and then also to take into account. How much time do you spend per week, looking for items to stock your inventory . Right now I’m just using Depop to get rid of some old things that I have but I was considering continuing it as a side hustle but it’s looking like the amount of hours. I will have to put in on the profit in return I will get it isn’t really worth it if I want to have competitively priced items. .Thanks ❤
