The problem with depop and ebay is like everyone just expects steals so if you aren't selling for like 50% resale free shipping nothing will move
@mihsan783 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true
@victoriamessina51263 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed this become a big problem too! The combination of the SHEIN and Amazon prime mindset makes consumers think everything should 1. Be a steal and 2. Be on their doorstep the next day. Not to mention the tik tok slander against depop sellers. That never helps.
@Riseau3 жыл бұрын
@@victoriamessina5126 Exactly. Nothing grinds my gears quite like a rando asking for 60% off or asking for free shipping as if i don't have to pay for it on my end. And its always on the big items that will cost me 20 bucks to ship
@blackharvest133 жыл бұрын
I see way to many people reselling items that are brand spanking new still available for more than what the company wants plus over charging on shipping. And they get offended that people want a used item for cheaper than what the retailer is selling their new item for.

i went from (as a small new shop) selling about 10-20 items a week to not making a sale for over a month. i thought it was just me. its reassuring to see other people are having problems. hopefully etsy buying depop helps improve the app and bring things back up. hope to see your engagement rise again soon. keep grinding!

I’m also a top seller and my Depop profits have also been cut in half, or maybe more. It’s been like this since March for me, though. It feels like my shop is shadow banned, and other sellers feel like this too. Engagement and sales come in bursts, and listing new items yields little results as far as engagement. Super frustrating, lol. Been crosslisting a lot more and it helps a bit
@victoriamessina51263 жыл бұрын
I also think that there is a huge increase in people selling on depop, which means more competitive pricing and more options. But many of these sellers will soon go back to school, or their jobs and realize depop is SO much time and effort, and not continue with it. I’m just hoping that if I hang in there it’ll get better eventually lol. Focusing on a lot of flea markets for the summer to make up for my lack of depop sales

Do u think it’s possible that the reason why depop sales are low is because the pandemic isnt as bad as it was anymore. Like no one is going to glued to there phone as much because everyone is going out. Of course your going to get sales but it isnt as good like how it was during the quarantine.

I don’t think it’s just Depop. I sell on 4 different platforms. There is such a thing as summer slowdown. I have noticed when I’m slow or even dead on one app, sales pick up on another. Kudos for starting your own website. Never put all your eggs in one basket, definitely hav3 to diversify your income streams. 😊💕
@sonnyboy20403 жыл бұрын
Ive been hearing about a "'summer slowdown" for the past 4 years since I started reselling, Ive yet to experience it myself and I know quite a few other resellers who've also never experienced it, it may be a real thing for some people, but to say every reseller makes less sales , during the summer would be an assumption based on your experience. If your sales do slow down during the summer , the best thing you can do is to list more, if they are still slow, list even more, when you list more items, you increase your odds of making more sales, it's kind of the same as if you were playing the lottery, the more tickets you buy the better chances you will will have to win, except chances winning the lottery are slim to none, its the same basic concept though. I sold more items today than any other day this year or last year , Im not sure why, but one thing Ive learned about reselling is to not expect or assume anything, because ive done that in the past and learned that , that's not how it works, you can make predictions and sometimes they'll be right and sometimes they'll be wrong. I'm predicting that within 2 years time Depop won't exist , if they don't make some serious changes, I'm not Nostradomus, but I think he'd probably make the same prediction
@SarahhhhhET3 жыл бұрын
I think Depop is so oversaturated now with sellers and new vintage sellers. Used to be a great app to find niche dope clothes and now there’s so much crap to sift through to find what you’re looking for. Plus prices have been going up. I’d rather just go to the thrift store on my own tbh.
@carlaornelas21313 жыл бұрын
Firstly, I love the hair! Lol and secondly I’ve found that when I don’t repost my listings and leave it for a few days, that’s when the listings start getting a lot of likes. But when I re-list them I’ll get little to no likes. As before, when I’d re-list is when all the likes flood in. Super weird lol

I can say for sure that the Instagram engagement right now is crap. But since Ontario has LITERALLY just reopened last week, my Depop shop (Lost Forest Threads) has been closed for the past 2.5 months. So I’m basically starting from scratch again right now!!
@pete94943 жыл бұрын
I too have noticed a slight decrease in sales on Depop, but eBay has been relatively steady for the most part. It could possibly be the weather is warming up and things are reopening after being closed for so long and people are less active on their phones.

I'm just a casual vintage fan, don't resell, but I've been so burned out and basically tuned out from the vintage community (this is the first of your videos ive watched in a long time), and for me it's cause vintage is too big and it's not fun anymore. Kids camped out at the thrift for 8 hours a day, prices on boring mids going sky high, people chasing every last penny on every shirt they can get their hands on, the same dumb hyped up shirts again and again. I have my nice lil stack of shirts that I thrifted for myself, and I'm good. Only thing that gets me excited is true vintage but even then it's so hard to find and expensive so it's like why bother.

For me personally I don’t think Depop is dead but that’s probably because I’m mainly a seller that sells alternative clothing. Depop relies on trends and the trend now is mall goth or any clothing from that era. Look up “Tripp nyc” “trick fairy” “demonia emily” and look at how much people are willing to buy literally buying Tripp items / demonias for 100+ or any old hot topic brand . Plus look at sellers like hausofhex or internetgirl

Ok this might sound weird but strippers have the same issue in summer. Like if people can go out and go on vacations then they generally spend less time in strip clubs. I think it's the same with Depop, esp because the heavy lockdowns are over. But other things to consider: consumer preferences are changing because the app is so saturated, there's a labor shortage so I think more people have less disposeable income, and the app is getting older so naturally the initial buzz is over. Also, many people feel Instagram is dead which Depop was modeled after.

No i feel like this is really true. I started depop last July and my sales were very steady (2-3 items every day every week) i was selling handmade masks. Now a year in ive had to move my shop away from masks because i wasn’t getting any sales on the masks at all. Probably because covid is “over” or because in some countries there isnt a lockdown anymore and stuff like that. This isn’t very accurate though because three weeks ago my account was taken down because of spam (I was trying to tell a seller that they were selling and labelling their crystals wrong and they blocked and reported me). So now ive had to track all my orders off of email and its not that nice. So I haven’t had any sales for a month because of that incident.
