People complaining about having to pay for a service might want to consider if they would do their job for free. Strava currently do not make a profit. It is a great service and I would much prefer to pay a modest subscription to support it and keep it going.

Łukasz Tkacz they aren’t making money. Businesses that don’t make money go bust. They can’t create new features out of thin air. They have probably lost some paid subscribers due to covid and so have had to try something to get more people to pay.

They do make money. About 80 cents per user selling your data. The govt must of stopped cutting checks?

scottyt560560 haha indeed! All the more reason to pay for a service though. Pretty sure they don’t make a profit unless they’re fibbing.

Jonny G it’s not quite that simple in this case though. Segments and routes was built on a foundation of data collected and manually entered by people using the app. Strava gave them the means to record it, but benefited a lot from their free user community’s data entry efforts. Of course they need to make a profit, but if their business is not able to make a profit despite a significant proportion of their IP being effectively donated to them, then I’d say they have much bigger problems. Aside from it being a kick in the teeth to contributors to the platform, this may also come back to bite them in future if they want to add additional features in the future requiring further data mining. It probably won’t affect users in highly populated areas as there will be enough paying users, but losing the data collection from free users in less densely populated areas like the outer suburbs might be detrimental to the level they can provide for paying customers. It will likely need to be supplemented by paying for that manual data collection, much like google street view cars.
I use strava but the free version because I only use it to track my ride on zwift and outdoor riding, and walk. Im not a runner so most of the features in the paid version I won't use or even understand to be quite honest. love the content of your videos!!!!

Hi, thanks for watching this video. I am planning many more videos covering everything to do with making you a better, fitter and faster runner but I need your help. I need 1000 subscribers in order to monetise my channel. When I achieve this I will be in a position to invest back into my channel and take it up a level, so what would be a small gesture from you would be huge help to me. Many thanks for your support.

Strava is going strong day by day. Locked down people have resorted to running now.

Segments :( I'm not a fan of having something taken away after years of having it for free. So if anything its caused any thoughts of getting Summit further away. If I were to be mean; I could say its like a drug dealer, they give you a taste to get you hooked.

Facts. Once you start paying you are saying it's ok to pull this kind of stuff. Plus give them more time and they will make a new premuin feature.
@TheAdorableTauren4 жыл бұрын
@@buckroger6456 They probably wont do that, I saw the interview GCN gave Strava and its understandable why they did this. Its just a shame its taking something away instead of adding something better for the pay wall.

@@TheAdorableTauren that has been their biggest problem for years. I've never signed up and never will, but plenty of my friends have and even they said for years that it's not really worth it. Strava is a great cycling app with some cool stuff but it's just lacking too much stuff even at it's cheap price.

Strava just killed it's self for me. Any reason to use it is now locked behind a paywall.

Good video. I;m a free user and to be honest at £4/month I'll probably subscribe as miss the old free features, and to be fair how can I expect to keep receiving these features for free plus the additional features you explained are pretty decent.

Is there any option that let you planning future trainings? I mean, like training peaks where you can set the trainings you have to do and use it as a schedule.

Yes. It has a training calendar where you can plan future sessions.

If I subscribed, I would not want to see adverts appear at a later date.

I agree with you. I do subscribe and like what it gives. I would rethink if it started showing ads.

The company is not profitable with 50+ million users. I don't know. It looks like a jump on our money, taking away what was free is an easy one. Why didn't they create something completely new and that's what they could encourage to premium. I don't know where this world is going, in a moment we'll have to pay for the wheels separately when buying a new car.
