This is the beginning of the end of a car battery. These things have an incredible shelf life (more than 10 years) and will outlive your cars charging system let alone a battery.

Excellent info thankyou. And upon doing research the sb 630 is only good to 14.25 volts. I just sent a message to xs wondering if my cars 14.3 would do damage. Otherwise I'll go with the 500 farad which is good to 16.5 volts. None the less. Awesome car and again thanks for the info about the ultrcap

Would be cool to add a socket that fits a Milwaukee m12 battery to charge up a dead supercap. If things have been sitting too long or initial startup fails a Chinese ebay knockoff would only cost a few bucks and give you 2-3x the amount of cranking. Or whatever 12v power tool battery you happen to have... those are just under 16v, small, and cheap.

Very interesting. Love the Healey -- as I do a lot of your English cars. Wondering how compatible these Ultra Capacitors are with the computers in cars we have now. BTW I've just watched the more recent video of you making a capacitor strong enough for the Royal Enfield. One of your subscribers directed me here. Got me interested now -- going to do some legwork on the subject.

They actually work best with computers because they do not have a voltage drop under load as much as a battery would. Consistent voltage is important for computers and electrical sensors so ultra capacitors work best for ECUs. If your modern car has a lot of parasitic drain however the capacitor could be drained in a weeks time if you did not drive your car to charge it back up.

@@ThisWeekWithCars Thanks Steve -- I believe you also explained that a trickle charger would maintain the capacitor. I always trickle charge my batteries at home at least and, if convenient, away from home too. I also carry and small jumper pack for starting a weak battery. Good point on the consistency of voltage on ECU's --

BTW - Your jump pack will work just as well with a capacitor should you need it.

you could also fly a kite in an electrical storm and attach it to your starter( it's called a benny) it only works once and if you're lucky like Ben Franklin, you won't die. but what the hell high capacity capacitors are fun. do you keep your hood and battery compartment locked to discourage random idiots from access ?
@nickbutler1234 жыл бұрын
You can keep your hood unlocked? Have you EVER had someone open your hood to fuck with your battery? Theres always someone.
