Well said. I feel only black people can call out bullshit like that. Somehow we survived slavery but we can't survive difficult conversations?

Well said. Literally, only black people are allowed to call her on the BS because if white people do it, they are in denial, or being fragile, or exhibiting some other mental or emotional problem. She's created a bizarre defense against people questioning her ideas.

@@ryanrobin12I agree that, if someone's willing to end a friendship because you disagree with them on a social issue, they're ideologically possessed, and they've lost a lot of my respect. But, knowing so many of those types of people, I know that they let's say randomly that half of them are good hearted, useful idiots. Personally, I don't think it's worthwhile to cut them off in the same way that the worst of them cut me off. To be clear, most of these ideologically owned people don't actually end the friendship with you, especially if you're disagreeing with them privately, in a one on one conversation. Most likely, they'll just go on the defensive, and not be able to admit where they're wrong, or where the holes in their logic may be. But they won't go crazy and demonize you, across the board. It's on us, as more level headed citizens, to find ways to invite them back into reality. And to have enough patience to let them go through the typical stages of disbelief, which, yes, are often abrasive.

Purchasing her book and posting that you were reading it or posting it as a highly recommended book was more of a flex to show how self aware you were of your privilege and fragility. Most people I knew who read it looked at it more of as a self help book and less as a perpetuation of stereotypes and racism.

Thanks for sharing this. I find it strange that she is unwilling to have a debate about her ideas. But I think CH is right. In a way, I find her approach to discussions with black people to be actually condescending to them.

I’d rather create a conversation about how the black community can lift themselves out of the mire that many of them are in. Maybe then my apartment that one of them rented from me wouldn’t have shit in the toilet, clothes everywhere, old furniture and oh yeah, he owed me $5k. I know the answer of how to live, so you live better than before, but no, we’d rather focus on race which is meaningless.
@CharliRay

I would definitely remain silent and withdraw from the conversation if they brought up race ,politics ,religion,sexual orientation or reproductive rights I’m out of any of those topics come up with anyone regardless of skin color . I’m only white passing and still refuse to discuss race with black folks it’s always an argument. ALWAYS! And I enjoy peace and quiet and god times life’s too damn short to fill your day with drama

It’s true that accusations of racism against white people are exaggerated but keep in mind that they represent powerful majority in the US and they don’t face as much hurdles as others in actual real life so repeatedly defending them unintentionally makes you look pathetic considering you’re a minority and they’re a majority. So you have to find a balance in such a way that both white and black peoples concerns are fairly addressed.
@willmercury

Powerful majority? There's that domination narrative. There is a majority population in every polity; that is not synonymous with oppression. Coleman looks pathetic? That's not an argument, that's a slur. Minority vs majority? How is that morally salient? If you're going to insist on social sorting, here's a reality check: not all of the respective concerns are real or equal. Some are grounded in grift, as your own myside bias clearly demonstrates. Clean your own room.

I think saying that they dont face as much hurdles is a cop out because we all have them, most of the time it isnt how you look but what you have and can do, it shouldnt be my skin color caused… its mostly hurdles we have been given individually and most can look past the racial problem, its when WE try to take on another class of issue is when we get into trouble, its not a one size fit all issue

How much help does a white guy from an Arkansas trailer park get from the government vs a black male, pick your favorite metropolitan area. Cause when I looked for scholarships it was all for anyone not a white dude. Companies everywhere have pledges to hiring minorities for being born a minority. Schools do the same. Why are you such a punk loser at using your brain? Whats the point? Get some Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams in ya.

That doesn't make him look pathetic, it makes him look reasonable and well adjusted to the society he lives in. Right now black people face less hurtles in terms of college acceptance and employment opportunities, so their odds of success should be higher. Exactly what hurtles do they have that white people don't, besides the ones imposed on them by their own community and culture?
