Hello all I’ve been on Jeff’s program for three months now. I consider myself an intermediate lifter after 8 years of lifting. I’ve grown accustomed to the “bro” split I couldn’t switch to anything else. After I made the switch to Jeff’s program I am more eager to hit the gym, I’m pushing more weight in each set and I do not feel sore anymore (except by the fifth day maybe). All in all, it’s a great change for me with no drawbacks.

I remember hearing Eric Helms talking about his definition of “full body” and he said he didn’t necessarily mean he trains his entire body every workout. Instead, he means that all his workouts include a mix of compound movements that will hit both upper and lower body in one workout. As an example, the new Monster Maker program by Athlene X is a “Full body” program where you train 5 days a week, but not every workout is truly a full body workout. There’s an Anterior full body day, a posterior full body day, an explosive lower body day, a day dedicated to a specific area you are trying to improve (Eg chest) and a “remnant day” where you make sure you’ve covered all your bases and haven’t neglected any areas. So I’m curious to see what Jeff’s program actually looks like. Training “full body” five days a week might not literally mean trying to hit every muscle group in every workout 5 days a week.
@Aswornbyshade5 жыл бұрын

@steventaylorgroom4 жыл бұрын
@@Tracuer221 it isnt as bad as you think (in the sense it wont have the crazy level of negatives that some think it does, ie you actually have more energy after 2 or so days, you wont completely permanently destroy your metabolism, and you stop feeling hungry after a while. that being said, it also isnt anywhere near healthy like some claim, and the idea of chem detox is legitimately bullshit) for safety measures dont expect to workout normally on it (people have literally died doing this), as a whole you do lose weight, but plenty lose it mainly from muscle, so its best to focus on light body weight training so you have some kind of stimulus that keeps the muscle loss down to a minimum. also coming off of it requires a fuck ton of self restraint, because even if you were dieting and went back on that diet after, your body WILL gain that fat back and alot more. coming off is normally a few days of broth and juice. everything being said, my personal experience with a week long water fast (for personal dicipline rather than weight loss) it is nowhere near the best nor even an appropriate alley for weight loss (in fact after i stopped i gained the 18ibs i lost and then another 2ibs back in fat in two weeks and i even refed properly, then went back to my workout after and diet, which have given me appropriate levels of fat loss for a while. i even did sone calculations on the calories in order to base it off of the lost fat) also safety is heavily reliant on external lifestyles, if you do ANY job besides sitting at a desk all day, you are kind of messing up your body and if you work a physically intensive job you are taking a much larger risk. (i ended up with extremely low bloodsugar afterwards which i fixed in a month or so) which was fine with me, because i personally wanted to put myself through something fairly difficult that i could easily decide to end in order to improve my own personal level of discipline and didnt care about the negatives. it helped my mental health simply because i could reference it as something difficult that i did. i cant recommend it to anyone though. its better to eat cleanly, work out and lose weight in a stable slow manner. if you do it in a clinic and are monitored then maybe attempt if you really want, otherwise just dont

I just do a full body workout every 2-3 days. If I worked out yesterday, I'll have to go again either tomorrow or the day after that. This gives me the choice of when to go. Usually this depends on wether or not I feel tired or not, but sometimes other things get in between. At worst I'll have a full body 2 times every 6 days, at best it's 3 times in 6 days, and usually it's somewhere in the middle.
@vacuus92812 жыл бұрын
Yesss exactly. I fell upon Leroy Colbert (RIP) vids few years ago and switched a full body routine I repeat 2-3 times a week and never go two days in a row. Best results by far. Plus repeating the same movements that co-operates with me (wide grip pull ups, incline press, weighted dips, ect)....refines the form and allows you to go all out in intensity. Training 5 days a week is not that bad, all Jeff is saying is rather than doing multiple exercises for a body part on one day you split that load over 5 days. so if you were going to 20 sets of chest on Monday and then not hit chest again until the next Monday, instead you do 4 sets of chest every day. The load is the exact same, but your stimulus changes as now you're hitting your chest on multiple days from different angles, and the same for other body parts. Its definitely an interesting approach, and something i am personally going to start from next week myself.

Switched from a push/pull/legs to 5x full body for about 3 months ago now, the number 1 benefit is definitely the mindset of doing something new which make you push harder and break through plateus. And I do believe some muscles benefit from higher frequency, especially those you feel are stubborn for you, for me it was shoulders which I feel have improved

Wednesday: set new 5rm Squat, Bench, and Deadlift +1-5lbs. Take one rest day and do it again the next 3 days switching Bench and OP with each other. It's waaay too much, I ate like crazy and added like 25lbs to all my lifts, then got a stress fracture in my left tibia. I’m not sure if anyone with experience will see this but here goes: I workout Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Monday I do normal bench press + high to lowcable and crossover. Bent over rows, lat pull downs, overhead press, lat raises and bent over raises. Leg press, calf press and leg extension, seated bicep curls+ alternating hammer curls then tricep kickback and extensions. Tuesdays, I do dumbell press, incline press and pec deck + lowt to high cable fly then close grip barbell curl and preacher curls, squats, calf raises tricep pushdown and face pulls, upright rows. Then Wednesday is rest day. Rinse and repeat until friday and on Friday I add deadlifts. Any tips or improvements. (i do 15-20 minutes of cardio 3x a week)

I've been doing his workout for 10 weeks now and I've had pretty consistent strength gains. IDK if its more or less than I normally would have otherwise but I am a fan of it. Only thing is you have to be pretty experienced bc you have to go hard enough and recover quick. The best part about it is you have to have water, food, and sleep ON POINT to you recover as fast as possible for the next workout. Which is probably the biggest catalyst of the growth

I like full body because it lets me superset and get done really fast, it allows my body to essentially never be sore (which is really important to me as an inseason athlete). I also feel like more of an athlete when I train my whole body every day.

Hey Greg, I just started his full body program 3 weeks ago. I’ve been training (admittedly not super seriously) for the past 3 years, mostly on bro and PPL splits, and this is by far the most I’ve enjoyed working out. I’ve already noticed muscle and strength gains, my lifts are all going up, and I find it much less daunting to split up working out different parts of my body over 5 days, instead of doing it all in 1 or 2 days. I especially find working out legs much more manageable because it’s not all clumped into 1 or 2 days totally dedicated to legs. I like the variety, and I get a decent full body pump every day of the week! I agree with you that it’s probably not the absolute most ideal way to train, but my goal with lifting weights is not to gain the most amount of muscle I possibly can in the shortest amount of time. Ofc I want to gain a lot of muscle, but I’d much rather do it in a way that I find enjoyable, and that I can stick to even if it means sacrificing some gains.
@alantaylor66914 жыл бұрын
Is the bro split the one bodypart per week split? If one bodypart 2- or 3-times per week is the best way to go for optimal results, why did they get bigger when they started the bro split in the early-90s to become the first mass monsters, and now they're no bigger if they have changed back to each bodypart 2- to 3-times per week? They were saying that doing one bodypart more than once per week was overtraining as it wasn't facilitating recovery, and when they went to the bro split they got bigger, the results being mass monsters. Also, why is Palumbo still saying to do one bodypart per week if it's now revealed 2 to 3 is more optimal. If anyone is up-to-date on this wouldn't he be?

I can see how you can put more energy into each body part when doing full body 5x a day. My muscles start to feel fatigued after I've done a few exercises per muscle group, not just one. The more important factor for me is being a busy adult. If I do full body,I have to do warm up sets for almost all my movements. With push pull or push pull legs, I don't have to warm up much beyond my first exercise since similar muscle groups are being used (exception being skullcrushers, hurts mah elbows if I don't)

A - Upper body / B - Lower Body / C - Rest - is the best 'split' for me. If you're willing to train on the occasional Sunday of course; which I don't mind, training for me is a hobby and fun, therapeutic even.

This is my favorite video from Greg Doucette by far. As someone with neuromuscular issues - while I don't make excuses and do train - I just can't figure out this 5x per week program. I get to week 3 and I end up with a setback and that's ramping it up slowly - or maybe that's the issue. If I keep to more of the traditional split routine - or a 3x per week full body with variety on each workout day - then I am fine. Trust me everyone it's pretty frustrating since I really love working out. I love cardio too much - so basically I live to sweat.
