I have a 2009 S 80 D5 A and with 385000 km on it ! never had a issue with the gearbox or anything else ..! Just change the oil from the gearbox even when Aisin don`t recomment it... Take care of your car and it keeps running ...

Fully flushed mine at 89k and 2 sump dumps since and now on 116k. The sump dumps are really easy to do having a drain plug, drain out in to a measuring container when cold and put the same back in with new fluid. A dump will change approx 2.1lt, do that 3 times and you will almost have changed it all. A full flush for £180 seems cheap with correct oil being expensive.

They hold 7 Litres of fluid and a sump dump releases approximately 3 Litres, Do this every 20,000 miles and they last forever, Mobil3309 or the Toyota version available from Toyota.

A very easy transmission to change the fluid on, the downside is that they do not have a pan you can drop to change the filter. The gearbox should be at 50-60c when the level is checked, a lot of people worry that they need VIDA to set this, easier to use a cheap laser thermometer on the housing. Arguably an easier job than changing the engine oil.

Is it safe to change oil on used car with around 150.000 km (around 95.000 miles) without previous oil changes? Because there are a lot of cases where oil change on high mileage cause problems.

Thanks for sharing it. I have an Aisin TF-80SC trasmission on a Peugeot 308 CC. I have 89.000km. Peugeot tell to not change oil, it's lifetime (lifetime=200.000km for Peugeot). My seller tell to not change oil 'cause he saw many Aisin that after doing that have problems. And my seller also saw many automatic trasmission without oil change with over 200.000km... I'm a little confused... what to do?!? I make not more than 8.000 km in 1 year, the car is ten years age... I'm thinking to not change oil and keep the car for 5-6 years... so km will be 140.000 without oil change..... What to you?! I'm confused......... thanks for your attention!!! Regards

Now you don't mention year of, type of "autobox" and your using conditions (like hauling trailers. driving in the mountains, hot area, etc) but with 200 K on the clock, keep it original Volvo ATF oil ... do NOT go for all them promises of the diff. ATF oil sellers. The Volvo oil is a mineral oil and will be the best choice looking at whats in the box now .. buy 1 times the amount of oil needed and do a change (same out, same in). Safe the original oil .. if you get some "funny" gear shifting behavior after 1. oil change .. drain new oil out and put old oil in again ASAP !! If it's back to normal, leave it like it is (it will require a refurbish of the gearbox, solenoids, etc. Too much of "the goodies"are out in the oil) If no "funny stuff" shifting gear, change a second time again after 500 miles and a third time after another 500 miles (still same out, same in) Hope it is usefull .... From a VISTA mechanic
@Christerart
@Christerart 3 жыл бұрын
@@tellyonthewall8751 I have no idea what a Vista mechanic is so have no idea how much credence to give your statement. However, my experience with four auto Volvos (two V70's, two XC70's, three 5 speeds and one 6 speed box - three of which are/were Volvo's Geartronic and with mileage from 158K to 232K in the last five years) has been that immediately when I bought them I did a partial dump with Mannol JWS 3309 and a bottle of Lubeguard Red. Depending on how well the transmission shifted I'd do another partial dump in a couple hundred miles or in a thousand miles and then repeat every three thousand miles. They all worked perfectly when I sold them and the two I have now are smooth as butter. These transmissions are made by Toyota and as long as the fluid meets Toyota's spec they will do the job - Mannol's JWS 3309 has worked perfectly for a fraction of the price of Volvo's. The five speed autos are easy to do a partial dump - just suck out as much as you can - usually 3.5 liters, replace and you're good - just make sure it's in the required range on the stick - easy to not put back enough. The six speed is different - you need access to Volvo's VIDA software and need to get under the car to do the procedure. You can buy VIDA and an old laptop on the web for not much money.

If I'm correct, the fluid for this is nothing more than ATF-4, which is the synthetic version of ATF-3. So, even ATF-3 would work in this transmission with no problems. The fluid being the standard for many earlier American transmissions.

Hi Dave, I have just purchased a 2013 Volvo XC60 with 141000 miles. The maintenance light has come on for what I believe is the 150,000 miles service check. I asked my local independent Volvo mechanic to give me an estimate for the things to be done and he sent me a quote for changing the Serpentine Idler pulley, Serpentine belt, and Serpentine Tensioner. Also to do an oil service and filter change as well. Total cost around $800. Is that all I should be looking to do? Also I don't believe the Transmission fluid has been changed as of yet. Should I do a staged change out or can a do a complete change of fluid (not flushing it).
