Should you upgrade the Zoom Q8 to the new Zoom Q8n-4K?

After much research I decided against the new one, and pulled the trigger on the old version Q8. Bigger screen, more user friendly and dual inputs.

Thank , never noticed no Jack 1/4" input on the XLR sockets, why do these idiots do that? they add a USB C (can it be powered by that?), then go and remove another useful item. no way to change the file system to MP4, MTS I despair, was looking for a 4Ch audio and some video recorder, but that is out of the window now The Bluetooth does not show an image on the Andriod , just audio levels

I just got the Q8n after having the Q8 for about 6 months. Now I have to buy new cables, charging cord, etc. losing features with the screen and screen size is disappointing too. I’m assuming I can at least use my extra battery I bought for the Q8. I ALSO bought new SD cards for the Q8, and now I have to switch to MIICRO SD cards now. I hope the Q8n is worth it.

It feels like Zoom stole from Peter to give to Paul on the I/O department. Nice going with the USB-C but what a drag with chasing the Combo 1/4 - XLR inputs.

I imagine they are trying to keep the cost down. Though I would have paid a little more for the combo jacks.

According to amazon, it looks like the 8n will record at 60fps 1080, and the 8 will record 60fps at 720, neither at 4k . In terms of a good quality video for youtube , wouldn't the 8N using 60fps be the hands down winner @ 1080 over the 720p, a very noticeable difference?

Good morning. Your video and audio is stored on SDcard, same format as any of the Zoom H recorders. Separate files for each track as well as video files. ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP. I keep everything stored on external har drives. I haven’t experienced problems with SanDisk Extreme (gold label) amzn.to/36zV4O8.

@@DebErney Why do you say gold label, the product info doesn't include that tag, though the label looks a bit goldish. Are we getting the wrong thing if it says extreme but not 'Gold Label'? EDIT, I gather that the seeing the 'gold' label indicates that 'you're' getting the 'extreme' which is their best quality sd card, or the most suitable for cameras.

all these whiners, just bought mine for xmas it’s not gonna be everything for everyone but for my home KZbin channel it is the best low cost solution available. I’m on my 5th Zoom camera started what over ten years ago probably and haven’t gotten each of their newer models in that time period, but this bad boy is gonna be sweet.

I’ve owned the zoom cameras since the q4. What they lack in video quality they make up for in every other aspect. These are a specific niche that they are well suited for.

USB no. Audio input into DAW yes.

@@DebErney newbie here, ok so for audio only run from the line out to DAW? usb is for vid? I'm on the fence with my decision. I was just going to get a H6 or F6 and record and podcast from but I'm thinking what if I regret not having a video option. What I'm reading about picture quality though I can work around for great audio perhaps...I dont see much out there in comparison...

The q8 sounds much better then it looks. The more light the better the video. You can plug mixer outputs right into the q8.

oversouls, I stumbled on a guy recording his guitar through an amp with a Q8, the sound was good but it's hard to say how loud it actually was in the room. I would say though the sound was 100 times better than my android Motorola phone has been at home, recording my guitar through an amp.

lol...F/2.8 is worse (lets in less light) than F/2.0 . So, Old Q8 is better in terms of low light.
