Another pro to add for the OEM IS38 (which would be a con for the hybrid) is that you don’t need a custom tune to use the OEM IS38 turbo. You need a custom tune for the hybrid.

IE has an OTS tune for the Garrett 2260 which is literally the best option over the IS38. Was debating this with my 17 A3 Quattro Premium Plus when I go through Eqt for tuning. Not confident with E85 for a long term daily driver and the car sees city and bumper to bumper highway traffic, so IS38 is for me. I will do the EQT + variant for stronger internals given oem IS38 reliability issues.

Great timing for the video in my case. I think I'm going w/OEM IS38 & a Baun DP (goes w/other mods already completed). Mostly city driving on my end, so the really big turbo is not as useful for me. There were some issues with early is38s but everything from the past 5+ years has been good. They are solid, reliable units. Don't push them too hard trying to make a ton of boost at elevation or carry a lot of boost to redline and it'll be good.

Honestly for anyone reading an is38 E30 tune is a great option. Its only 20 hp less than the E85 tune and all you need is a hpfp if that. Intercooler, downpipe, is38, flex sensor and a $400 custom flex tune by Boosthaus with a $90 dongle and you're making 380 wheel for very little money.

With how light the GTI is, power to weight ratio, and truly how unfair of an advantage you have on everyone in roll races, how come more people don't build GTI or Golf R's like you see people build other common platforms like Chargers, Challengers, Supras (MKIV or MKV), BMW M2/M3/M4, etc? Do you think there is a particular reason or simply just not educated enough in your platform? There is a guy on KZbin who built a following and was smashing with his built GTI who sold it earlier this year and bought a 2023 Supra that he's now building. Something that little didn’t need to be a twin scroll. Especially considering it bolts right on the head without a manifold. But the twin scroll was necessary due to the choices made in design.
