Do88 is an excellent choice intercooler. Regarding stickier tyres. This is a NO issue for a Golf R as it transfers power to the rear wheels for 50x50 grip, all wheel drive. There for no wheel spin issues. Apart from what has already been suggested, add on a turbo cover blanket and wrap your turbo inlet pipe as well as your exhaust pipe near the turbo shielding all from extreme heat. Enlarge your air intake vent at your front grill. Reasons beyound my understanding VW only allowed half of what could flow in to your air intake box. I did all that and it performs like a beast with APR stage 1 ecu and dsg tune, plus Invidia Q300 catback system. Get rid of your 15kg spare tyre! Use a tyre repair kit instead with a portable pump.

Just got my ‘24 Mk8 Golf R MT, and I’m just want to get it up around the 350 HP and 350 ft-lb torque. This replaced my ‘17 Focus RS (kept the RS in the family though), and I love it. I just want it to get it back to where it was with the RS or slightly over. Recommendations? I don’t do launches, so I’m thinking a stage 1 tune (which one?) might be enough. I would probably do the CDV delete as well.

Excellent advice my friend. I have an Audi S3 8 V.5 stage 2 FBO with 034 motorsports.( Its still an EA888 gen 3 engine) For me, it's the perfect daily driver, weekend warrior . It's a consistent high 11's in the quarter and Im at the point where Im totally satisfied with overall performance. When I jumped to stage 2 from stage 1, with the downpipe the extra gob of torque through the rev range really did it for me as far as "feeling the power throw me back". Also, stage 2 IMHO is the sweet spot for a reliable daily driver. I will add- one thing that is overlooked is the importance of getting the correct spark plugs for your tuning level. I highly recommend Denso iridium IKH24s for stage 1 and stage 2 . They are proven and work perfectly , no mis fires whatsoever. Stay far away from the RS7 plugs, they are known to have blown engines because of the tips breaking off and shooting into the engine. Once you start tuning, spark plugs generally need to be changed every 10-15K miles for optimum performance . All other points you made I totally agree with. Intercoolers are extremely important IMHO once you get to even stage 1, because you will have consistent , reliable power levels , you won't be pulling timing and making the turbo work harder ( heat soak is horrible). I have the CTS bar and plate direct fit intercooler which has been fantastic.

Great video. My desire is to have a car that is a little more fun to daily drive without stressing the stock clutch. I'm thinking that leaves off getting a tune. I'm not looking for massive hp gains, just a little more power. What do you recommend? Downpipe?
@JewelCity1 Жыл бұрын
Stock clutch may or may not last with a downpipe/tune (you’ll need at least a base tune to run a dp). If you don’t care for adding hp, get lighter wheels and better suspension. If you prefer more hp you can try a stage 1 tune (straight flash with no hardware needed)

I recently got APR stage 1, CIA and turbo inlet pipe on my VW Arteon 2.0TSI which is basically a Golf R motor. The APR tune was done before the mods and now the car is doing some crazy compressor surge at WOT aprox 3500rpms. Any ideas why this is happening? Should I go back to the tuner that flushed the car with the APR tune? I know that the compressor surge can kill the turbo. Any advice will be welcomed.

Intake and Tune #1 Bushings and Sway bars #2 Intercooler and Stainless break lines #3 These are the best bang for buck mods assuming you have good tires. Good tires is the real #1 but if you’re considering modding your car (no matter what it is) good tires make the biggest difference. Wheels are so expensive, I’d skip that personally.

I have a 16 GLI with a downpipe, stage 2 ECU and DSG tune. No aftermarket exhaust other than downpipe. Tuner is reflect, so not standard APR, Uni or IE. It’s a bit more conservative compared to OTS tunes for reliability. Do I really need anything more than an intercooler/tune to swap to a ko4/bigger turbo? I wouldn’t be doing pulls back to back but I just want something that pulls more/is faster on rolls than stock turbo because I’m looking for more power, around the 350hp range. Just curious what I really need if I’m going to go ko4 or something along those lines. Not really looking to push past 400hp

Apart from cooling you’ll need more fueling for the turbo swap. Not sure about mk6 but mk7 platform will need colder spark plugs to match. You could add an exhaust to increase flow
