My main fear of doing a my own petition and not using is a lawyer is if i get rejected. Does that minimise my ability to reapply or reapply with a lawyer? Simply, does being potentially rejected put you in a worse position if you re-apply or stop you from re-appling?

Requesting a better explanation of your endeavor is a very typical RFE topic, so it may not be related to the exact code you chose. It may be that you just did not provide enough details. Anyway, you can explain that in your RFE response letter

No, you should choose one or the other, do not do both. Usually I recommend using Advanced Degree because it is just easier to meet, then move on to the 3 prongs
